Stephanie Glance, the interim head coach at North Carolina State since the death of their former coach
Kay Yow, is not likely to be named as the permanent full-time coach there. The school will announce a new head coach later on today.
News reports that the likely successor will be
Kelly Harper, currently the coach at Western Carolina. Some of you might remember her as
Kelly Jolly, the point guard of the Tennessee Lady Vols in the late-1990's, during the "Three Meeks" era (Tamika Catchings, Chamique Holdsclaw, and Semeka Randall).
I realize that N.C. State has lots of Yow loyalists, but the fact that the program has declined in the last several years --- mainly due to Yow's failing health, which hindered the ability to recruit talented youngsters --- was a big factor in the athletic director's decision to start with a new slate.
