With Whiz, how kings will change? Let's guess.

I haven't watched the Monarchs. So please anybody give me information about Whiz?

I read many posts here, but I just only guess that he's defensive-minded, and he used the bench deeply. I think it'll be a little bit early, especially without an official announcement, but maybe it's time to discuss offseason finally?

With Whiz, how Kings will change?

I have no idea. well, in fact, only single idea.
"Artest becomes the man of the teams." or "Kings will get fitted for Artest."
Except Artest, I don't think whom Whiz like or not.

Yeah I haven't watched the Monarchs either so I don't know much about Whis(his name is too long so I guess I'll call him that from now on). I've basically heard that he is a defensive coach and that's all I know. I think Mike might get traded though because he is not good on defense.

Thats one of the first things I was thinking about, Mike getting traded, when all is said and done. Hell, we thought LAST summer was fun...damn if we arent in for a bit of a ride THIS summer!

IMHO, except Artest and Rahim(because he's cheap), everyone can be on the block.

What a dynamic summer!

yup....WEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!! What a summer WE are in for!!:D Fasten your seat belts people!

There are too many holes for his system...The Monarchs were a championship team last year for a reason. They had several dominant post players defensively and offensively and the best pure PG (and the best defensive PG) in the women's game. Whis also likes to use defensive specialists at the 2 position who guards and pressures opposing point guards, which runs down the shotlock. Add in a bench loaded with very athletic/energy type players that were good enough to start on lesser teams. They really had no weaknesses aside from maybe outside shooting, ironically the Kings strength for years. It'd take a long time to get a team similar unless he puts together a new scheme.

He likes quick, long, athletic players. So he will like Artest, Bonzi, and the kids. I also know he likes Kenny Thomas from what Coach T has said on the Kings postgame shows.

Man I really do not like the sound of this. I mean we had so much momentum built up going into the playoffs. We played the spurs very well. You make a couple changes and build around that, you don't blow it up so you can follow the directions of a coach that has no NBA experience and will have a hard time getting respect from our players. Don't you guys think that eventually we've gotta get some continuity going around here? If you do this and Whiz fails than you probably gotta blow it up again.

True. but no different than if you fail at building around what happened last season. The obvious factor was still there in our team: we need a big that can defend and score. Where do you get him?

The one idea that I like about a new coach is the idea of respect. You say that Whis might not get respect from the players which is not unlikely. He certainly won't command it but he will still have control of the team. I think he could get more out of our younger guys and our previously unused bench because they are fighting for playing time. And at the same time this will cause our vets to prove their worth as well. All in all I think it will come down to how well Whis can reach the players.

Thanks a lot! Excellent introduction. I really appreciated.

No, I don't think that we will trade away half our roster, thats not what the Maloofs got him for so he can be like Larry Brown and say "I want this, I want that". I think Whis will change his game plan to suit our current roster with some changes in it that will benefit us. First, he has to practice with the team and see what they can/cant do and from there he will make his adjustments to his defensive plays.

The white line defense wont work in the NBA. Basically, the women's center can practically stand in the paint and guard the basket. In the men's game it would be a 3 sec violation. This system woul not work in the NBA so if Whiz was the coach he would have to really tweak his system.

the 3 sec violation is for the offensive player not the defensive player. If there is an offensive player in the area a defensive play can stand in the paint for as long as he wants.

Straight up he would be at a disadvantage as everyone else in the league who is on the Defensive Band wagon trip, rules by not allowing a goalie in the paint cater to the free flowing more points on the board offensive game the league is promoting in this era of hoops. There are 3 teams in the NBA final four this season who don't really play any defense Dallas included. 3 teams who are offense first with miami being offensive minded in the Traditional sense with Shaq low post and Wade on the perimeter. The illegal Screens, the don't touch on the perimeter, The fast pace, The pick n roll, pick n roll illegal screens style of play definitely don't favor whis and his projected strenghths with Defense.

Stopping the suns and Dallas defensively you have to have players that can switch and interchange but also play smart at the same time.Whis may favor kenny thomas over shareef and only use shareef as a 2 pt here a 2 pt there player off the Bench. He may go with kenny thomas because athletic wise he may be similar to dmaya walker.

The whiteline traps and force basline schemes won't work against a Nash or terry and harris because of the way the Three is used in this league. It would be wide open Bombs after Bombs, This is why times you must fight over the screen and stay with yours.

There are many reasons this move is not a Good move to make.It seems from a basketball point of view that there is no logic behind it at all.

No there is a Defensive violation for the Defense if you are guarding the paint and not a man. Defensive 3 seconds is similar to offensive 3 seconds where you can't camp in the paint. It's called defensive 3 seconds and a technical foul comes with this + free throws

where did you get this knowledge from.

No way that defense works in the NBA. If the center/pf isn't being called for 3 in the key, then shooters are bombing away.

Not...gonna....do...it.

It doesn't make sense either way, what was said was that the white line defense won't work because you can't camp in the lane and play Goalie because of the defensive 3 second rule. Of course if a offensive player is in the paint then you can defend that area as a defender and guard your man, But there is no Zoning up the paint the way whiteline Defense works at times.

The question is not how the Kings will chance, but how will Whiz change. He is the one who has to make the biggest adjustment. We have players who've excelled under all kinds of different coaches with different teams in different systems and roles. The spotlight is on Whiz like it never has been before and he has to step up to the level of the league and the talent he'll be working with/against.

Exactly. How far can the weakside help without being in violation?

I question this defense because if you have a shooter on the weakside he's going to get an open look on the skip pass. Teams like the suns, dallas, spurs that can put multiple shooters out there are going to kill you and those are the teams we need to get by right now!

Mainly the Maloofs have been emotional decision makers and Petrie has been the logic to try and balance them out. Ever since mid-season the Maloofs have decided not to listen. It worked out with Artest, so now they want to make more emotionally forceful moves. There is no way in the world that they have thought of the logistics of Whiz as coach. I guarantee they have daydreamed and let their mind wander to how great they'll look and feel "when Whiz gets the title".

i hope that he isn't going to try to bring a gimmick in as his bread and butter. sounds like it with all the argument about this defensive scheme.

"ability to win games" would be a great gimmick.

There are other Monarch fans who could probably give a better account

Coach Whis doesn't even call it "white line defense" thats a name that the players gave it. Story goes he litterally taped (white tape, of course) lines on the basketball court to map out areas where players are assigned to (help) defend; its about (if not all about) helping and rotating. It took a while for the Monarchs to master it, but even with it they give up alot of open perimeter shots. In the begining, when Whis first took over the team I would watch games and just count the number of open shots they gave up and till this day the flaw still exists. Supposedly, Whis has said that he's thought about the differences between the NBA and WNBA rules and about how we could tweak the system to fit the NBA. One this is for certain, he expects his players to play D and if they don't then he's doesn't worry about sitting them down to bring in someone who will.

Under Whisenant, everyone will get in synch like never before. There will be about a 4-5 day stretch each month when the team will be crabby and distracted, but at least it will be predictable, and there will be a lot of empathy among the teammates during that period.

We will see a greater court intuition overall.

And they will have fabulous shoes!

obviously Whiz is not a moron..

All your guys' analysis is not very profound.. Whiz understands all of these topics much better than any of us. he will not put in a system that will not work with the players we have. Nothing to worry about
