I would like an athletic defender SF who can knock down open shots if need to. But honestly, at number 7 you just take whoever is best player available.
I think Chris Singleton is your man.

Tyreke isn't a true PG and many will argue that he's not a PG at all and while I disagree, I can understand that. But does anyone disagree that we are looking to he and Cousins to be the building blocks for this team? If so, why would you take the ball out of his hands, take away his physical advantage against smaller guards, reduce his ability to penetrate at will and hand the reins over to a diminutive rookie PG who took 18 shots a game in college and has a shaky outside shot while ALSO pushing Thornton to the bench to do so?(Quote)
You've asked the key question that would get everyone's attention. I do want the two of them to be the cornerstones of the future but not if we have to depend on Tyreke being our best ball handler/distributor. In his two years he not shown me that he is right for that job. If I am right it leaves us with a problem that has to be solved by working a good ball handler in with the two, or replacing Evans. So, for me, now is the time to try the first alternative. Who it would be, I have no idea.

Everybody agrees Tyreke has a high ceiling, an All Star ceiling, but there is no guarantee he gets there. The body of work isn't in in order to make that call. At this point you just want to improve the talent level of your team and increase the flexibility of your roster, so that if Tyreke doesn't turn out as flexible as you hoped in terms of his skills on the floor, then other players are there to compensate.
I didn't say he was a bust yet, just that he's looking like one.
Man, it's gotta be hard to backpedal when you're walking a line as fine as that one.
Either way, I don't think you can preemptively write off drafting Bismack simply because we have Whiteside.
What sucks is, they could have had last year's Landry Fields but took Whiteside instead, who so far at least, is looking like bust city.

Well, that's fair. I certainly wouldn't if I were sold on Biyombo being better than Whiteside, but I'm not sold on that yet. Biyombo will likely be a better rebounder by a bit. I wouldn't want to take bets on who will be the better shotblocker. Whiteside should be far and away the better offensive player.
I do think that taking Biyombo would definitely mean that Whiteside would be on the way out (so long as we resigned Dalembert). The question is whether we'd be better off going with Cousins/Dalembert/Thompson/Whiteside or with Cousins/Dalembert/Thompson/Biyombo for our frontcourt rotation. Seeing as we've been a strong rebounding team lately I don't see Biyombo making a big positive difference as a member of four-man rotation. Maybe he does. But I think I'd rather hold on to Whiteside and grab Knight/Leonard (if available). If not, maybe take Vesely, maybe trade the pick for a SF.
I'm just not sold on (+Biyombo -Whiteside) being better overall than (+SF +Whiteside). That's all.

Put me in the camp with those that aren't sold on Biyombo. I have no idea what his offensive skills are, other than dunking the ball. I have no idea what his basketball IQ is. I used Saer Sene as an example of a player that did the exact same thing in the exact same game, and ended up out of the NBA. That along with the high failure rate of international players in the NBA, and I'm going to take a wait and see attitude.
I can if I want to!![]()
What if the Sonics/Thunder had passed on Ibaka because they already had Sene and Swift?![]()
I've been taking a look at all the teams drafting ahead of us and I think its possible that a player like Knight could slide down to us. There's a slightly less chance of Kanter sliding. This is all speculation on my part, so pick it apart as much as you like.
1. Cleveland: Derrick Williams, 6'8" SF/PF. This isn't a slam dunk between Irving and Williams. But the Cav's have Baron Davis under contract for three more years and have a decent backup in Sessions. So taking Williams makes the most sense for them in the immediate. They could certainly use a top flight SF.
2. Minnesota: Kyrie Irving, 6'2" PG. This is a tricky one. Minny is probably holding their breath in hopes of drafting Williams. Do they really need another PG with the possiblity of Rubio coming over? And if they draft Irving, what message does that send to Rubio? I could see Minny trading the pick and moving down a few spots. Casspi anyone?
3. Utah: Jan Vesely, 6'11" SF. Utah is loaded with big men and have no need for a point guard. So unless they think someone left on the board is better than Harris. They could use some depth at the SF position, since their likely to lose Kirilenko.
4. Cleveland: Jonas Valanciunas, 6'11" C. The Cav's need a big man. So at this point its either Valanciunas or Kanter. I flipped a coin and it came up Valanciunas. It could go either way.
5. Toronto: Bismark Biyombo, 6'9" PF. I'm goiing out on a limb here. They have Calderon and Bayless both under contract for a couple of years. They have a center that loves to play away from the basket. So a defensive, rebounding presence at the PF position would be a big help. They could also go SF here.
6. Washington: Kawhi Leonard, 6'8" SF. They have McGee and Blatche, and Wall at the PG. Its doubtful that Josh Howard will be back. I'm not sure exactly what Jianllan is. But they could use a SF that plays defense and runs the floor with Wall. They could easily go with Enes Kanter here as well. But the need for a big man isn't as great.
7. Sacramento: Knight/Kanter. The odd's might be slim, but it could happen. Its also possible that the Kings could trade up with either Minnesota, or with Cleveland for the 4th pick if someone's there that they reall like. Cleveland would only be moving down a few spots and saving themselves some money in the process.
I do think someone will slide. Its more likely to be Knight, simply because most of the teams above us aren't in great need of a point guard. But with Kanter not playing last season, and the rumors about his knee's, it possible he'll slide as well. I guess we'll see..

So my day's going along pretty good, considering the disaster of yesterday. I'm starting to recover from the devastation. And lo' and behold, you are trying to get my hopes up again? Can't take it, Baja. My hope muscle has been pulverized. Can't even remotely go there. I'm now doing everything possible to forget that I read this post...
hammystyle said:This is a bit of a non-sequitur, but isn't Kanter the biggest wild card of them all? He's basically had a great Nike game, a great U18 tourney and that's it. I think he also played some games at a So-Cal high school in 09-10, but he's hardly played competitively in two years. So he is really just a top 10 pick based off the Nike game more than anything.
This is such a strange draft. Should be an easy question to answer - which player do I want at 7? - simple enough. But there really isn't one player I want out of this draft. Maybe Faried, but that is more I like his attitude and want him to do well. I'm more hopeful that the Kings don't draft a bust @ 7.
#7 draft picks historically have been pretty mediocre. Nene stands out. Steph Curry and Greg Monroe are recent picks that have potential.
Trivia question: the Kings have had four #7 picks since the draft lottery, can you name them?
Now that we're at #7, I'm with Gary. If we're actually going to use the pick then take a chance on Jordan Hamilton
