Will Cousins be available at 5?

Daniel Orton apparently threw DeMarcus Cousins underneath the bus. Called him "a big child," said he needed to pull him away from a fight.2010-05-20 15:58:00

Doesn't exactly give the impression of mental toughness. It's interesting that some people view the fighting thing as a positive. But is it? Is fighting the characteristic of a mentally/emotionally tough player? Or does the mentally/emotionally tough player sublimate his anger so that he focuses on his play?

Good question, I wonder how Reke feels about that. I just really see Reke as a guy who has that gift Kingster, he is an emotional assassin. I think the most he let himself go all year was the infamous, "this is my house" after "the comeback". I doubt we would ever think Cousins would slip at all if he had the maturity and mental toughness of our ROY

Cousins will not be participating int he strength test of the combine because "he hasn't lifted much and won't start now".

If true as much potential as he has and as much as I wanted him... I'll pass for a guy that at least is willing to work and not rely on physical attributed alone.

Yeah I saw that and thought of what CWebb said back then... "how can bigs 6'10" & up not lift weights?!?!"

With Al Jefferson and Love, the Wolves don't really need to use their high 1st rounder on another big. They have the 15th & 23rd pick also and they'll be able to get another decent big with those since this yr's draft is deep with bigs.

hmm Cousins kinda sounding like an *** :/

That's what I'm saying... I wanted him as much as anyone and hell I still do... But we've all seen guys with the talent come in and think that is enough to separate them from the rest. Skill alone is not the reason why Kobe. Jordan, Duncan, etc... became the players they are.

Shaq is the only player I can think of that came into this league an relied solely on his physical gifts to dominate.... Lets not kid ourselves Cousins is no Shaq. Shaq was bigger, stronger and on a whole other planet athletically.

IF cousins think's he can rely on his skill alone then he will have something else coming to him. We should introduce him to Eddy Curry.

Yeah this does not go over well with me either. The "hasn't lifted much" is bad but the "won't start now" might be a deal breaker for me.

I wouldn't mind having a player with an attitude like that. Easily fixable for the kind of talent I think he has. He's honestly the one player I think is most valuable for this team.

Shaq isn't the shining example of consummate teammate/ mature guy but when he was in his prime, there wasn't a team that wouldn't trade half of their team for him.

(Disclaimer: I'm not comparing the Diesel to Cousins)

Jonny Flynn rooting for Wes

Jonny for GM :D

The Timberwolves didn’t have much luck in the lottery on Tuesday, slipping from No. 2 to No. 4. But at least one Minnesota player was happy: point guard Jonny Flynn(notes), who played for Syracuse while small forward Wesley Johnson sat out for his transfer year. Johnson seems to make sense for Minnesota at the No. 4 spot, and Flynn reminded him of that immediately after the lottery results came out. “That would be a great fit because they have talent, and Jonny is there, it would be nice to have an old teammate of mine — even though I never actually played on the floor with him — it would be a positive for me to have him there,” Johnson said. “After he saw the draft lottery balls fall, he called me and I answered and he yelled out, ‘Teammates!’ He is banking on me coming. He is excited about it, so we will just wait and see what happens.”

So far so good.... hello Cousins

Catching up with Cousins

CHICAGO - Let the DeMarcus Cousins debate begin.

There are those that believe he's the best talent in the draft. Others see him as someone with a bad attitude that you'd want nowhere near your team.

The Kings don't want any player who would disrupt the locker room with a bad attitude or poor work ethic.

Based on time with Cousins today, I didn't get the sense he wouldn't work hard. He's competitive (he believes he should be the first pick in the draft) and is honest about his game (says his defense has to get better).

The Kentucky center spent a lot of time with the media today and I found him to be funny, serious and flippant all in the same conversation.

*He said if he weren't a basketball player he'd be a ... journalist. Clearly a joke, right?

*Cousins said his immature reputation is "not me" and he wants to prove that to teams.

"I tell them the truth," Cousins said. "I'm not that type of guy."

*When the topic of his college coach, John Calipari, coaching in the NBA came up, Cousins didn't even entertain the thought.

"I'm not here to talk about that," Cousins said.

One thing that stuck out for me is Cousins clearly cares about basketball.

That was evident when he was asked about his last college game, a loss to Da'Sean Butler and West Virginia in the NCAA Tournament.

"I think about it everyday," Cousins said. "The first person I saw when I walked in here was Da'Sean butler. It made me sick to my stomach."

And apparently Cousins doesn't let go of losses easily.

"I still think about my final four loss in high school," he said.

Another prospect the Kings could find themselves looking at is Baylor forward Epke Udoh.

Today is his 23rd birthday, which makes him a lot older than a lot of the prospects. His offensive game is still developing, but he loves to play defense.

"I get excited for (defense)," Udoh said. "I think I did a good job of getting my teammates excited too."

Udoh (6-9 ¾, 237) was careful with his words, even asking was it OK to reveal his measurements from the combine.

Udoh said his friends compare him to Kevin Garnett, but he declared himself a "watered down" version of the Celtics star.

"I would really love to sit down with that man and talk to him," Udoh said.

Then Udoh took the talk to a philosophical place most of the prospects wouldn't when asked what he'd talk to Garnett about.

"Life," Udoh said. "They way you view life is the way you view the game."

We'll see about Cousins if he falls to us and if he does if we would take him. He has an interview with the Kings tonight so we'll see. If Petrie isn't 100% sold on him as a player AND a teammate then I think he would certaintly pass on Cousins. Got rid of Dorsey because they didn't want him to rub off on the young guys.

That's very true. If Cousins didn't have the baggage then the Kings probably would have no shot.

My take is that if the Kings management perceives that Cousins is an immature guy who will in a relatively short time become mature, then they'll go after him. If they think, on the other hand, that this guy is going to have many years before he matures, then they'll pass. FWIW, Reynolds said that he really believes that this team is solid and emotionally mature enough, that they might be able to handle a Cousins. I agree with the team assessment; I'm just not sure about the other part.

By the way, I totally agree with the Tyreke assessment. And you have to ask yourself: How much of that charactersistic as an emotional assassin contribute to his success as a player? Quite a bit, I'd say.

Lol Udoh is the man, he wants to talk to The Big Ticket about life, heck that is a stellar idea, becuase KG's outlook on life is very positive, and that shines through in his game. Udoh has definitely picked a good guy to mold himself after.

As far as Cousins goes, I think he can actually be the Robin to Reke's Batman. And I think pairing Cousins with our ROY will only make Cuz more competitive, and he might even rub off on Reke a little bit and give him that killer instinct (like that black cobra guy whatever his name is). Although I don't want to see Reke digress because of someone immature, I just think that it just might work to have two guys around the same age, at similar points in their lives and careers that could buddy up, build a rapport, and maybe even be one dynamic duo. Didn't they play AAU together?

Garnett is one of the biggest aholes in the NBA. I certainly hope he doesn't want to talk to him about anything other than the game.

Who cares if he's an ahole. Dude has one of the best work ethics ever. I would love it if Udoh could get KG to mentor him if we picked him.

sg/sf are the wolves' weakest positions so yeah I can def see them take Wes Johnson and Cousins slipping to us.
