Why does the media say the Kings and Warriors are rivals?

The whole idea that both teams have to be good at the same time to be a rivalry flies totally in the face of tradition as far as sports go.

The rivalry between Army and Navy has existed forever and it has nothing to do with the relative strength or weakness of that year's team.

I'm not talking about tradition. I'm talking about this particular case and these 2 particular teams. If they're both winning in the regular season, and then playing each other in the playoffs, watch how quickly this rivalry flares up.

If that's the only time it flares up, then, to me, that's not a true rivalry to me (ala tradition). That's just heat-of-the-moment competiveness.

The reason why I can't stand the Warriors is purely based on the facts that their fans talk all kinds of **** about the Kings... They have been hating on the Kings since the glory years. The Warriors are like the A's of the NBA. Like the JV team.

That has never made the least bit of difference to Boston or NY fans. Rivalries were a matter of civic pride and being proud of where you were from or what you did for a living even (Steelers/Packers). TEams were seen as an extension of the city/region they were from.

call it a rivalry or not but i dont know... its like an in bred hatred for both lakers and the warriors... but i hate the lakers more! lol

I live in the bay area, and have lived here for 15 yrs. I know a lot of warriors fans, and they don't really consider it a rivalry. I dont either. Maybe the media plays it up a little bit, but for the most part the fans down here don't consider it a rivalry. They consider G.S.-Dallas a rivalry.

I hate the Warriors. I root for them when they play the Lakers. That's it. I think their fanbase is ridiculous.

The problem is that the two teams have basically NEVER been good at the same time -- in fact the two teams have rarely been good period. makes it hard to form any kind of rivalry when the games rarely matter. Either its a beatdown by one squad or the other, or its just a toilet bowl between a pair of lottery teams. Not the way to build a rivalry. To have a true rivalry the games, at some point, have to have meant something. You have to have been competing over something and a threat to each other to build that dislike. Without that, its hard to care.
