Who's going to be traded?

With the trade deadline coming up Sunday, there have been Giants names on the market. Are they going to trash the season or go for prospects? Or are they gonna give their prospects to try to win? Or just stand pat?

Who do you think is going to be traded off the Giants?

My thoughts.

Schmidt--As much as I'd like to see him traded for prospects, Sabean will keep him, because with Barry returning probably next year, the Giants will have a contender again.

Tomko--I think he could be gone. A string of strong outings has raised his stock just a bit, and he has a reputation as a strong second-half starter. Teams in need of pitching could definatly do worse.

Rueter--Unfortunatly I think he stays. He's just not good enough to get an offer that will ever amount to anything. Stomach him for the rest of the year, then he walks.

Christiansen--
A semi-dependable left-handed bullpen arm. Useful to anyone.

Eyre--
Has been awesome this year. Could sell high, but I dont see that happening.

Walker--
Sell high on Walker with the soon-to-be return of Benitez? I would pull the trigger if a good offer rolls around. With a backend of the bullpen looking like Eyre/Hawkins/Benitez, I think he is definatly an expendable asset...Only problem would be finding a closer that could hold it down for the next month, until Benitez returns.

Snow--With the coming of Lance Niekro, Snow is now expendable. A team, perferably one with a power-bat in their line-up, could use his hitting and great glove. Power bat, because of his season batting around a guy like Bonds last year.

Durham--A really good hitter, a bad defender, and fragile. Could be of use somewhere else, but I dont see him going.

Alfonso--I see him gone. With Feliz out there, there is no reason to keep him. Feliz defends better, and is the better hitter. No use in platooning the two, when Feliz should get the start.

That being said, I think that the traded will be...

Edgardo Alfonso
Brett Tomko
J.T. Snow
And Tyler Walker as a longshot.

I agree Alfonso and Tomko are gone. Snow will probably stay just because the Giants like him a lot and he would have tremendous value if we get back in the mix next year. No to Walker, only because he doesn't have a lot of trade value. Yes on Eyre because Sabean seems to enjoy trading away the good pieces of our bullpen. And we probably don't get anything in return. I see Reuter as being designated for assignment and seeing who will offer something for him, but more likely he ends up ultimately being released outright and finding himself in New York or Baltimore. Reuter and Ponson, together again...

I was thinking Rueter for assignment. I just dont see anyone giving up anything for him at this point in his career.

yup if rueter goes, it'll be via the designation way.

trading schmidt isn't a good solution in my opinion since starting pitching is by far the giants biggest weakeness, and schmidt has been pitching better of late.

i'd love to see christensen go, and bring up the rookie tashner who looked pretyt good when he was up here.

if the giants could dump fonzie and durham, that would be great. durham's glove is the achilles heel of the infield D, plus he gets injured everytime he turns around. i likke alfonzo, but i like feliz's power more.

i don't want to see JT go. he's the ultimate professional, he loves being on the giants. i bet if the giants asked him to be the backup to niekro, he would. i think thats whats going to happen next year to be honest. plus he's a total gamer, and still plays a GREAT first baseman. i see him being a coach for the giants in the future :)

That would be great. Tachner pitched excelently when he was up. Plus he's another lefty, so you dont have to worry about losing a left-hander, AND he about 6/7 years younger.

And I agree about Snow. He was told earlier this year that Niekro was going to start getting prodominatly more PT (I think this was around the Minnesota series), and Snow said he's been through it before, but then Niekro fouled a ball off his foot in BP, was injured for about a week or so, and managment seemed to have forgotten about his extra PT.

Rueter is as good as gone...He just imploded and allowed 5 runs with 2 outs in the 4th.

But now it's hitting me, and I do kinda feel for the guy, but it will be for the good of the team...

Bring on Correia!

somehow I don't find Correia too comforting. then again, that's based on what I saw of him last year. i've been more busy than usual and haven't really followed the giants since they fell apart completely a few months back

Correia hasnt been excellent this year, but if he can gain control of his pitches he will be a pretty good pitcher.

His fastball is extremly live, and pretty much does everything. Unfortunatly he has no clue where it's going.

He also has a live slider, a change, and a curveball...But he has no control over them.

I'd take him over Rueter at this point, though.
