PG: Rubio
SG: Martin
SF: Gerald Wallace
PF: JT / Hawes
C: Thabeet / Hawes
How to get there:
* Rubio with our pick
* Thabeet: If Washington gets pick 3 or lower I think it is very possible they would be open to a trade that we are in a unique position to offer. Could be including a combo of a fiery vet they publicly desire (Nocioni), up to 7M in salary relief to get under the tax line (which as it stands they will be 10M over and have NEVER gone over before), and one of our lower 2 picks this year. Get the pick somehow and pick Thabeet. Hawes, JT, and Thabeet can all get 30+ minutes each.
* Wallace: likely a longshot, but rumors of Wallace being available have been out there as well as rumors about us being interested in bringing him back. Bobcats are also seriously losing money and can't seem to get into the playoffs as currently constructed. Larry Brown is nuts. Jordan is calling the shots. Something crazy could happen. We don't have a lot of assets left to get it done, but we could offer some combo of Nocioni or Garcia + KT's expiring, plus a lower pick this year, plus a heavily protected future first, plus take on Nazr Mohammad's 2 years left (he has asked to be traded). Nocioni or Garcia fills Wallace's spot, they get lower 2 picks, save about $25M total, and clear a bad contract. Crazier things have happened, although I still see this as a longshot. Wallace is IMO a perfect wing compliment to Kevin Martin because he is the same age as Kevin, will play defense, is an incredible rebounder for a SF, and doesn't need a ton of shots while still being a scoring threat. Every weakness of Kevin is Wallace's strength.
With these moves we basically build a defense in 1 year. We have our anchor in Thabeet to challenge big men with his size and shut down guards entering the lane. Wallace is our active wing defender to guard the other team's best wing player. Rubio brings the ball movement and will at least be a more active defender than Beno.
