Who should/could the Kings pick up in the FA market???

I read that the Cavs are renouncing the rights to a few players.

One of them is DeSagana Diop. He is a former lotto pick that apparenty hasn't panned out. Of course I don't think he has ever been given the opprotunity as well.

I wouldn't mind seeing him signed for part of the exception. He is big and can block shots. He may be worth the risk.

What other players would you consider bringing in through FA?

I've been a fan of Diop, when he got in the games. I would be happy if they went out and got him if they can't get a PF in the draft, such as Villanueva, Simien, Warrick (tweener), but he just better not be another Otag.

Diop and Traylor----No thank you and No thank you. Dip and Tag are extremely similar and Traylor is an undersized PF who lacks a low post game. It would be wasted money if the Kings spent any on these guys.

I wouldn't rule out Tag coming back to the team in shape and ready to contribute this year. It's already been noted that he is working out at the practice facility and is even lifting weights. I would prefer to concentrate on the PF position even though we have about 5 guys who play that position.

I'm interested to see what Skinner can bring at the power forward position. He is a good defender and shotblocker and rebounds the hell out of the basketball.

My wish list is for the Kings to retain Evans, sign Antonio Daniels(or Earl Watson) and then get Stromile Swift.

They also renounced Harris -- they are something like $25 million under the cap now. Guess Paxson wasn't such an idiot after all -- on his way out the door he said that everything he had done had been preparing for this offseason, and the irony is that he gets canned just in time for somebody else to get all the credit for using all of the cap space he cleared up. Cavs should now be able to go out and sign TWO big FAs to go with LeBron, and they could get scary quick if they choose wisely. (unfortunately for us they need a shooter and if they can't get Ray or Redd, they could easily sign Mobley).

As for the spare parts they are shedding:

Diop was coming on a bit before hurting his knee, but is basically a VERY limited big man. Tag is Vlade comparatively skillwise. He's big and young, and so I guess if you were doing a full rebuilding you could look at him, but if our system remains the same he might be the LAST center in the league who would fit.

I actually think Traylor might do well in our system if by some off chance we actually somehow ended up shy of backup PFs during the offseason. Pretty good skills, obviously willing to lay some lard on people, and actually a respectable shotblocker despite his girth. And he would come cheap. But its just a question of what the hell are we going to do with all the random backup PFs we already have or have rights to before pciking up yet another one becomes an option.

Harris is just a shrug. Backup OG. Does fine. Can shoot. Not much else.

Hey, anyone know what ever happened to that Oberto guy from Argentina that we were rumored to be offering a contract for last season?? He's 6'10 and could definetely help.

From an article about the Kings Cup (Spanish league tournament) dated Feb. 25, 2005:

Fabricio Oberto
(Pamesa Valencia; 1975; 6-10; PF/C; 2 games, 35 mpg, 15 ppg, 7.5 ppg, 2 apg, 1.5 spg, 2 bpg)

Every time we have the chance to talk about veteran international players here at DraftCity.com, his name arises, and it’s no coincidence. He’s one of the best post players you will find around. Last time we mentioned him was in the summer as a potential free agent the NBA should look into, and indeed he received interest from both the Spurs and Kings, among others. In the King's Cup he was Pamesa Valencia's best player in the quarterfinals, being decisive on both the offensive and defensive ends. The good defense Unicaja put on him in the semifinals (he was often double teamed in the low post, as was Tomasevic at times) was a big reason for his team's loss.

Fabricio showed his usual stuff, like his fantastic post-up game and solid paint defense. He’s a warrior, and quite a polished one. He’s strong, and can fight with anyone, even at the NBA level. He’s a guy who understands the game, not only how to score, but to pass the ball too. Teaming with Tomasevic for their fourth consecutive season, they have probably been the best post passing duo in the world over this span, Divac-Webber aside.

Oberto still suffers with his free-throw shooting. Despite being able to hit mid-rangers with some consistency, he’s lousy from the line (40% in the Cup, and 51% in the ACB League). His age and experience hasn’t helped him solve his problems with foul trouble (he committed 4 in each game).

Precisely his age is a matter of concern: he’s not getting any younger. Although Fabricio doesn't finish his contract until 2006, he has a buyout clause this summer (likely affordable), and it’s now or never for him in order to try the NBA adventure. There have been rumours saying that the Sacramento Kings could be interested in him again, while Chicago has been mentioned as well.

-- a post up player and a passer? Sign him on up. 30yrs old though.

Sounds like a good fit.
Agreed...but is Petrie on the phone, c'mon Geoff, make it work, he sounds like a Mark Olberding type of player, that would be all we need, I'm not worried about scoring too much. (btw, thanks Brick, for the info!)

I remember him from the Olympics. He seemed like a pretty decent player to me. But the knocks on his athleticism are justified. Seemed like a good hustle guy, but nothing special.

I would really like to go after Bobby Simmons if he doesn't want much over the MLE. Then maybe we could work our a deal with Washington to send Williamson over that way so they can get something for Kwame Brown instead of letting him go.

LA has already made it clear they're keeping Simmons. And yes he will get more than the MLE.

kwame would be nice.... if all we give up is corliss....

we could get Kwame for nothing because he is a free agent. but i was thinking maybe Washington would want something so they may do a sign and trade and not have to worry about the free agent market since that have to sign Larry Hughes. We could get Kwame for MLE or less but if we trade Corlis or KT for him we would still have our MLE to split between Darius and Mo or to go after someone else on the FA market. I said in another thread that the possibility of a sign and trade of Mobley is not out of the question. We just have to find the right situation were all parties agree.
