Who is the most important King in Sac History?

lol. never heard of him (*feels ashamed*) but sounds like he had his head straight.

With her..."special"...powers, we all know Voisin can turn her head 360 degrees....thus, not straight.

Anyways, i still say its WEBBER! lol

R.E.Graswich never had his head on straight. He hated the team; he hated the players; he hated the fans. He was like Charlie Rosen - only without the charm. ;)

He is still with the Bee; he writes a column a couple of times a week that shows up on the front page of the Metro section. He usually shares three or four human interest-type stories.

Until recently, he also took every single opportunity that he could to take potshots at the "billionaire Kings owners." I haven't seen him do it lately, however.

by far it was TONY MASSENBURG ..one of the most dominant players in the NBA who took a pay cut to sign with the Kings, even though he was worth gutting the team for ....rumor has it he's the only player who Shaq feared to play against ..

runner up would be Jerome "GARBAGE BAG" James....who knows how many titles the Kings would have had if they kept this talented big man who drew comparisons to Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain ..

AHHHH!!! PLEASE dont say that man's name...brings back too many horrible memories of Pervis Ellison and Ralph Sampson!!

I realized after answering this question .... I'm a SENTIMENTALIST (if that's a word).

There's nothing wrong with picking whomever or whoever you choose, but whoever that individual is, it gives the rest of us ... somewhat of an indication of what era/King you favor or impacted you the most.

There is no wrong answer ....

I go back to the roots and remember The Old Gang in the Baby Blues !!!!
I have to agree..there is NO wrong or right answer to this question...everyone has a different person who they believe was the most important for them. I honestly can't pick one, but I will say that Mitch Richmond was the one who inspired me to start caring about the Kings again...Vlade was the one who made me fall in love with the Kings, and C-Webb was the one who made me proud of the Kings.

If only since 1985 then Mitch Richmond. Mitch got the Sacramento Kings their first playoff game victory (in Seattle), he was their only All-Star up to then and Mitch got us Webber. Webber then blossomed with Vlade, Peja and JWill (who got us Bibby who took us to the conference finals in 2002).

Since 1999:

1. Vlade - free agent signed with the team, team player, #2 center in nba first few years in Sac
2. Web - MVP candidate first few years, one of the best PFs
3. Doug - we started playing defence when he came
4. Peja - won first PO series for us
5. Bobby - the shortest PF in a game
6. Bibby - 2002 against Lakers
...
I just loved that team!

As Em said, "Theres are not really any bad answers"(Well Russell would be one). An arguement can be made for Mitch, Scumbag Owens, Webb, Vlade, JW, and Theus. There really isn't a bad answer amung that group.

1. Bibby
1. Christie
1. Divac
1. Jackson
1. Stojakovic
1. Webber

I used alphabetic order. I am not trying to be diplomatic or political. These guys saved NBA in my eyes.

First, you might want to change that date. ;)

This is such a subjective question that there's really no definitive answer, IMHO.

I could justify at least four players right off the top of my head. It depends on your definition of "most important". I do think Mitch Richmond is one of them. I also think Vlade Divac, the FIRST free agent to voluntarily agree to come to the hellhole of the NBA, has to be considered. And, believe it or not, I think you have to consider the impact having Jason Williams had on the team AND the interest in them while he was here in all his glory. And, finally, I don't think you can bring up "most important" without looking at everything Chris Webber brought to this franchise.

In all reality, I think this is the type of question best answered at some point in the future, when history has had a chance to determine the long-term impact each of those players had on our Kings.

I think VF21 made a good point about J-Will. If I remember correctly, J-Will was in more highlights than any of our players and maybe was a bigger part of the Kings popularity during that era.

I'll go with Chris Webber first. Then Mitch Richmond second.

But since some people want to stir the conversation up: consider Ricky Berry dying and Bobby Hurley's car accident. Those were obvioulsy important elements.

It's semantics.

IMHO, the players who actually don the uniforms and step on the court ARE the Sacramento Kings. The others, such as Rick Adelman (who is the coach of the Sacramento Kings), Jerry Reynolds (who is an announcer for the Sacramento Kings), Geoff Petrie (who is the Vice President of Basketball Operations for Maloof Sports AND General Manager of the Sacramento Kings) are not the Sacramento Kings.

mark cuban wears the jerseys and i always see him on the court in the huddles........... ;)

The Wizard

I started this thread by Saying Mitch, and I still believe so.

One of my favorite all time kings though is Walt "The Wizard: Williams. I rember all of those years in the early 90's in the lottery, I think we had the seventh overall pick something like 193 years in a row. It was high enough to get a decent player, but never high enough to bribg in a superstar.

I remember just waiting for stern to call out The Wizards name.

Unfortunately with as much talent as he had he forged his birth certificate and entered the league the same age as his Jersey # ... 42. Someone should have paid attention to this.

BTW .... What does IMAO or IMAHO stand for?????

LMAO - Laughing my arse off
IMHO - In my humble opinion

CWGBTTTAH?

Can we get back to the topic at hand?

Webber. Vlade and Mitch are close behind, as are Bibby and Williams.

I don't think the question allows for non-players. If it did, the Maloofs and Petie and Adleman all get lumped together as #1.

I think that Nick Anderson is the most important King during our history; not only for what he did on the court but also for what he did off the court and in the locker room and in his house; he really "shaped" our franchise.

Jason Williams-opened a lot of peoples eyes to the "King's Style" of basketball. He got all my friends watching the games.

I think so too. Heck he got me watching the Kings... heck even basketball. His crazy plays and running game made the Kings the most exciting to watch. I became a loyal Kings fan because of Williams, and I believe it was the same for many (especially outside of the Northern California region). The Kings are now known for their fans and how powerful Arco is, and credit is highly due to this individual. And it is as exactly as ONEZERO stated... he had us shaking our heads while loving it in the same time.

Yeah, he probably wasnt the most important in my mind, but he did put us on the map for 7 seasons where we couldnt even get to .500 as a team. 39 wins twice was the closest...UGH THE MEMORIES!!! What about Mike Peplowski or Randy Allen? Randy Breuer, anyone??

Umm, Martin Nessley? Carl Henry? Conner Henry?

A lot of people forget how down even we longtime fans were on the Kings before J-Will showed up. Before his arrival -- and, yes, C-Webb and Vlade are inexorably linked to all this -- the Kings were not only terrible, but pretty damned boring to watch. J-Will and the others made it fun again,

That being said, I'd have to vote for Mitch. He helped the team when he came on board and he helped it even more when he left. Can't ask for much more out of a player.
