  • Meh! We can find better options than these guys.

Robert Swift, Adonal Foyle, Steven Hunter

I noticed these are some cheap and available FA Centers that we might have to take a look.

So who's your take if it comes down to these options to backup Hawes?

Much like there isn't always a picture of the true culprit in the photo arrays they show to witnesses, I don't think there's an adequate backup to Hawes on that list. So, I chose the "Meh" option.

Honestly, none. But if we really really really had to I'd go with Steven Hunter

I like Hunter, but he's coming off microfracture surgery and I would be leary of taking a gamble on him. I would rather go with Swift, if I'm going to go on the cheap. He's young at 23 and only had torn miniscus in his knee, which is no big deal. He's also shown potential to be a good shot blocker. As I've mentioned before, I also like Ryan Hollins, who is also young.

Were not going to win any championships next year anyway, so if we can't aquire a sure fire difference maker, then why not take a gamble on a young big with some potential.

I like Hunter as a backup center, but he's already 27, will need time to get back in the flow of things with his injuries, and at this stage of his career is probably best served as a 3rd string center for some aspiring playoff team.

Swift is young and has shown very small signs of being a potential rebounding/shotblocking type player in the NBA, and while he had some offensive skills back in HS, he's proven to be more reliant on athleticism in the NBA, so the injury problems he's sustained doesn't exactly bode well for him. He'll get a chance (Boston), but I don't think he'll reach his upside at all.

Foyle is one of the nicest guys in the league, was a great shotblocker back in the day, but is just getting old. Past the age of players we really should covet, even if we need that shotblocking (that shotblocking needs to come with young legs).

You may be right about Swift, but I'm still holding out hope for him. He's very athletic, and as I said his knee problems aren't nearly as serious as Hunters were. I don't see the harm in giving him a one year deal at the minimum. If he wants more than that, then adios amigo.. What do you think of Hollins?

Isn't GP the patron saint of Microfacture Surgury.

Yea, I would rather have Ryan Hollins then these three guys, but If I had to pick I think i'd go with Hunter.

Sadly, its because they are better than our current backup center. An even more sadly, they might be the best of the FA bunch.

I'm taking May and Brockman for that matter over all three of those scrubs.

Seriously, we are not a contending team therefore we don't need to even be looking at the FA market right now... Our concern should be devloping Evans, Martin, Greene, Casspi JT, Brockman and Hawes. Add maybe a kid or two from our summer league squad and call it a day.

Agreed. Which is why I'd take a flyer on Swift. He's young and has the potential to offer some of what we need (shotblocking, rebounding). He'd be cheep and has the same basic risk/reward conditions as May. Not that I think either is really going to work out but it's worth a shot.

The one thing I hope the front office remembers is that even if you don't have a shot blocker/interior defender that is part of the long term plans, not having one can seriously stunt the growth of the young guys. It leads to bad habits, a lack of transitional opportunities, etc.

During summer league one of Thorpes tweets was there was one player he found who swift could beat down the court. He was referring to John Bryant from Santa Clara on the Kings squad. I think my grandma could be him down the court dribbling the ball with her eyes closed.

I would say Hakim Warrick or Tim Thomas, yes they are not C but actually

there isn't a attraction enough player in 5 position.

We know that kings frontcourt def abiliy isn't enough ,especially

shotblock ability & helping def IQ&experience (even we add May

&Brock,they

just rebounder),in the condition , we can't just find a player who got

got fine def ability but can't operate with the team (remember

Mikki?)

Hakim Warrick & Tim Thomas got shotblock abiliy and they got

enough finesse& experience in both off&def end of their NBA

career can operate with the young smart team, that's important .

So if we can't find the attraction in 5 in the market, just don't try

it. Find the player who really help the team's defects and development

end. After the summer league, I want to say the team's frontcourt

def IQ is a juncture if we improve it ,we will win the game.

I've always been a Warrick Fan since syracuse, I think he would bring alot of energy off the bench. I wouldnt mind tossing him a 2-3 year deal.
