When Will Westphal Play Green At Small Forward?

Kingster

Hall of Famer
I've got to find something to complain (things are just too good;)). My only complaint is that Greene is being played out of position, so he really can't show his talent on the floor. It's tough to block shots and gets rebs and make your defensive presence felt as a 6'10" athletic guy when you're 20+ feet out on the floor. Any ideas on when you think Westphal might put him back in his rightful place?

Is Greene playing out of position? Yes.

However, with Nocioni, Greene, Hawes, and JT on the floor with Evans it FORCES the other team to play there point guard on Evans. Last night was an excellent example. Evans abused TJ Ford last night. If Beno Started ford would have been able to cover him and then Jones or Granger would have been on Reke which would have made his night ALOT harder.

Oy,.. did you guys watch the Pacers game last night?... he scared the crap outta me everytime someone let him bring the ball up the court.. he is not a ball handler or a play maker.

...and Donte is still making bad decisions... for now he's best at either cleaning up or spotting up outside. I don't think he's ready to be a full time starter unless it's a defensive matchup thing or all we got...

He had a bad game... last time I checked every single player in history did that at some point. What we need is to KEEP starting him until Martin gets back. Its invaluable experience and as long as we are winning I'm all for it.

We need him starting, its the only way to beat the elite teams. He is the only player on the kings that will consistently force his man to play honest d.

Good point. The Kings could put Udoka at the two and still have a guy who could force bad matchups from the other team. It does give a good hint that Westphal wants a physical two guard down the line to continue to cause those bad matchups for the other team.

We have too many bodies, simple as that. Donte has been doing well at SG and is gaining critical experience. No reason to change that up for the moment, although of course I see him as a SF longterm.

Bigger question is who's minutes get axed when Kevin comes back. once upon a time it would be easy to say the tow biggest victims would be Donte and Sergio, with some shaved from Beno/Noc/Casspi. But not with the way they have been playing.

Donte's biggest problem has been consistency. In order for him to become more consistent, he has to get consistent minutes, at whatever position he can. I'd really hate to see us give up on another freak-athlete small forward because we never game him a chance.

That being said, I find the whole Donte playing shooting guard thing a bit ridiculous. If he can do it, that would be amazing, our back court would be a walking mismatch (and basically bigger than Houston's front court). We'll just have to wait and see. He's had some good games at the 2, and some bad ones. He's remarkably versatile for a player who's clearly still very raw.

Maybe trade is the answer. We just have too many SFs on the roster for it to work. If ever there was a time to trade Noc, now is it. Casspi and Greene MUST get minutes when Martin and Garcia get back.
