Distractions could very well be the reason but that excuse does not seem to affect Spencer Hawes one bit who is actually younger by a couple months.

Donte Greene needs to be very careful all the constant clowning does not become his distraction, his reputation instead of realizing the NBA is a serious business and hard work is only chance to make it in the league. For me, it's clear he has talent but it's extremely raw at this point. I'd say bring him back but if he is not improving, not seriously dedicated like Hawes or JT he'd be better off somewhere else (D-league, overseas, etc.)
Spencer was probably more mature than most 21 yr olds when he was 12. Donte is a free spirit, without his clowning around and enthusiasm on the bench he probably would have gone crazy sitting on the bench and watching the team lose.

Donte showed improvement in his defense, and although he rushed a lot of his shots, he wasn't that much different than JT when JT was rushing everything early in the season. There probably isn't anyone that posts here on this site that has any idea what the offensive scheme was that the Kings ran under Natt. So why would a rookie project perform all that well.

I still don't understand why the Kings even brought him back from Reno. Or, why he played more PF than SF. It's no wonder the kid hasn't showed great improvement, who could under those circumstances.

Spencers Friends : Hey dude check out BB gun! did you catch (insert the normal tv show 12 year old kids watch) last night

Spencer: uh no dude but do you know that the economic stand of the republican party is...........

i cant imagine a 12 year old being more mature than an average 21 year old but it can happen..

but does spencer have leadership qualities? thats what i want to know...

donte's clowning and ways of entertaining fans is quite endearing but id rather see him sky for a dunk than sit next to me and eat MY fries and burger at Carls Jr. :)

All right you got me, I exaggerated a little. Spence was 13 when he joined the young Republicans. But, do they really have Carl's in the Philippines?

It's hard for SF's to sky for a slam, when the coach has you set up out past the 3pt line foul line extended. 2 coaches, 2 systems, 2 positions, & 2 little PT. It would be hard for any rookie, but I think you'll see more next yr. If the new coach runs plays for him out of the SF, and he learns to slow down like JT did late in the season.

Donte needs the right leadership around him to guide him. Once we get a real coach in here who knows how to LEAD and balance minutes, it will give Donte a better chance to succeed - on and off the court.

If he comes in and shoots 0/11 from 3 land and 0/12 overall, then that coach can sit him down and put him in his place.

If he still comes in after being spoken to and still pretends he's Peja 2.0, then I say see ya.

I really liked Donte's defense, especially since all we heard was what a great offensive player he was so it came as a surprise.

On offense, I saw none of that supposed potential. I don't understand how someone with such a supposedly great shooting stroke can brick so consistently throughout a season.

More inexplicable was the decision to call him up from the D-league just to sit him.

Definitely gotta keep him... at under $1M salary for a 20-yr old, what else are you going to do with that roster space? Team options for his last two seasons through 2012... if he pans out he could be a bargain.

He's worth keeping in the same vein that he probably just needed to get his feet wet in the league, and that at the end of the day he's still fairly interesting in being an athletic 6'10" "shooter"--while those aren't a hot commodity as much as it was earlier this decade they're still pretty valuable when the light bulb turns on. He's actually gotten some opportunities this year that could've opened the gates further had he actually drilled those shots and showed better court sense, but he's only 20 years old--if he was still doing this by the end of his third year with us that would be a cause for concern. I guess what people are griping about is that there's nothing tangible to hold on in terms of his skills (after all he showed that he was a poor rebounder with terrible shot selection and an even worse shot) and at the end of the day we're still talking about how he's a project player. Just give him time. That being said, if there's a real trade that entices us (Josh Smith/ S&T for Ramon Sessions) that we can capitalize on, if either team wants Donte, I wouldn't mind giving him away as filler.

Donte liked the D-league, because he got to play. What kid wouldn't like that? Let's face it, though, in the D-league you are playing and practicing with a lot of players that are not and never will be NBA-level talent. Ostensibly, being with the NBA team allows you to practice with NBA-level coaches and players, with at least some chance of playing against the best there is.

I heard someone (on KHTK?) say Donte realizes he should have stayed another year in college, but it was too late now and he has to move forward from where he is.

Donte seems a little immature to me, certainly more than Spence. There are some very hard workers on the Kings, so maybe it will rub off on him. Maybe he is working, but needs to work harder than he thinks he does. This summer should tell us a lot. Hopefully we'll get a coach that can help, too. Unless there is an offer we can't refuse, though, I see no reason not to give Donte some time. He's very young.

It's way too premature to talk about giving up on Greene. He just needs to continue to work on his game, get good coaching, and get playing time. He has a lot of talent; it's up to him whether he works hard to manifest that talent in his performance on the floor. The positive thing that I saw from Greene this year was that he did get better defensively. He obviously worked on that part of his game. That's encouraging. He just needs to continue getting better.

I'm not concerned with Donte's personality. You can be a fun loving free spirit and be a tremendous competitor. I wouldn't make any inferences from his personality about his work ethic or desire to compete.
