I find it absolutely remarkable that training camp is three weeks away and Bonzi Wells still is not a part of a team yet.

What do you think is going to happen with this situation?

He either signs with Indy/GS/Miami or is sign and traded to Houston using their 4.2 million trade exception in some form or another...

i was going to vote travel through time defeating evil like the vile Ozzy and the sorcerer Magus to restore order to the middle ages but then find out that the world would end in 1999 A.D. and find a way to defeat the evil Lavos that had been buried under the earth but would arise that fateful day to destroy the earth but by combining the moon stone and rainbow shell he would create a weapon of immense power, possibly enough to defeat lavos and restore order to time itself, past, present, and future

but then i just voted the first option out of sheer hoping. and trying my best to forget the terrible signing of John Salmons.

Wow...I want to vote for that option just to see how it turns out!!:D

Whoa! I want to change my vote to this option too. :D

I really hope that he makes the Kings somehow. But to be realistic, he will probably sign for a pittance with some other team that is in a better position financialy to take him.

^ John Salmons was not a garbage signing, we just overpaid. If that's what makes it garbage in your opinion, then yes it was.

This is the opportunity for Wells to eat crow, sign for less money with a championship contender, and come off the bench. Then get the big money with his new agent (whoever that is) after 2 years of being a good NBA citizen. One doesn't cut it, obviously. Backing up Dwyane Wade in Miami for a season would be my choice.

I'm not saying we're not a championship contender... I just don't think he'll be back... but I do believe in miracles. :)

Why are you so worried about people wanting to talk about bonzi?

He's the best available free agent and happened to play on the Kings team last year. People will continue to talk about him until he lands on a team, Kinds or otherwise.

We can have someone merge all the Bonzi threads into 1 please?

... Denver has excess of big men.....

The Denver Post this morning reported:

"The Nuggets have an excess of big men on their roster and potentially could move one of them to make a sign-and-trade deal to get Wells.

The Nuggets' management team knows Wells. Vice president of basketball operations Mark Warkentien was with Portland when Wells played there."

Who are the Nuggest "big men"?

Joe Smith, 6-10, 11 yrs, expiring contract $6.8M
Marcus Camby, 6-10, 10 yrs, 4-yr contract $7.8M>>$7.65 !!!
Kenyon Martin, 6-9, 6 yrs, 5-yr contract $11.8M>>$16.5M
Nene, 6-11, 4 yrs, 5-yr contract $10M>>$14.2M
Jamal Sampson, 6-10

Marcus has a few years left and is good rebounder but is he good defender?
Kenyon isn't going anywhere
Joe Smith is also in his last few years but would we want him?
Nene. Contract too big.

Camby for Bonzi straight up??? That would be my take and it would be good for Nuggets.

Um...that would be a great deal for US. But the Nuggets? Camby was roughly the 3rd best center in the league last year, and a dominant shotblocker and rebounder who keys their interior defense. His downside is age and injury, but unless the Nuggets are planning on a major retooling I would think he and Nene are the guys they absolutely do not want to get rid of.

Kenyon's contract is an absolute deal breaker -- and of course we still have the issue of will we go over the cap to do an S&T? Hopefully not for a guy who averaged 13 and 6 last year and would have the biggest contract on the team.

Nene is interesting -- we had interest in the past and a combo Bonzi (since I am assuming he is lost to us)/Kenny type of deal coudl work. Absolutely devastate the last of our rebounding though. And the contract is big. And the Nuggets obviously hyper-value him to have even dumped that contract on him.

Joe Smith is intersting just as an expiring contract. But obviously if we just let Bonzi walk, that money is already off the books. So I would think Joe would only make sense if he was part of a larger deal and let us unload one of our other long termers (again Kenny comes to mind). But that would still leave the principle in return for Bonzi up in the air. And is Joe still on a trade restriction from his earlier trade to the Nuggets?

Brick, you hit the nail on the head in you last paragraph. Don't see the Maloof's picking up any more salary now much less going over the cap. Really don't see them doing anything with Bonzi now other than letting him walk. Once you refuse Petri or the Maloof's, your toast.

Free agent Wells talks with Rockets
Spending limit makes pursuing guard a long shot

By JONATHAN FEIGEN

Free agent Bonzi Wells met with Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy and general manager Carroll Dawson on Monday at Toyota Center as the Rockets stepped up their long-shot pursuit of the veteran guard.
Though the Rockets are limited by the salary cap and some of their free-agent spending this summer, Wells has clearly not ruled out the Rockets while also considering the Nuggets, Heat and Bobcats.
Wells, who went from expecting to be a top free agent to searching for a place to land two weeks before training camps open, replaced longtime agent William Phillips last month, with the switch to Merle Scott forcing a delay in the already protracted process.
Wells, who turns 30 on Wednesday, averaged 13.6 points and 7.7 rebounds with the Kings last season and 23.2 points and 12 rebounds in the playoffs against the Spurs.
After earning $8 million last season, he turned down a five-year, $36 million offer from the Kings, a strong indication that an offer of a mid-level exception would not work. The Kings instead signed John Salmons, and the majority of teams over the cap spent their mid-level exceptions.
The Rockets have just $2.1 million of their mid-level exception remaining to offer unless they can work out a sign-and-trade deal with the Kings. The Rockets have a $4.2 million trade exception in which they could sign a free agent for as much as $4.2 million and send only a draft choice, but as with any sign-and-trade arrangement, that would require an agreement with the Kings.
Wells was the 11th pick of the 1998 NBA Draft out of Ball State and was immediately traded by the Pistons to the Trail Blazers, where he played five-plus seasons before he was traded to the Grizzlies. The Grizzlies sent him to the Kings for Bobby Jackson and Greg Ostertag.

A 1st round pick wouldnt be bad, albeit it could work against us having Bonzi on the Rockets, McGrady and Wells would be a heck of a guard combo.

Mentioned in another thread about this that yes, you might have just helped Houston pass us, but yes you still do it. Houston is only one team, not even in our division, and managing to collect both a 1st and a healthy trade exception for Bonzi is infinitely better than anything else that is likely to come of the situation at this point.

Tonight - FOX 26 Sports Exclusive – Wells May Sign With Rockets

Last Edited: Monday, 18 Sep 2006, 8:14 PM CDT Created: Monday, 18 Sep 2006, 5:56 PM CDT

Free agent guard Bonzi Wells arrived in Houston this afternoon to meet with Rockets General Manager Carroll Dawson and head coach Jeff Van Gundy. An eight year veteran, Wells says he could sign with Houston within the next 48 hours.

“I could. I definitely could. It’s up to the organization. I would want to sign depending on how everything worked out,” Wells told FOX 26’s Mark Berman.Wells knows wherever he goes he would probably be signing a one-year contract.

“Hopefully we will have good news for each other. We are going to be talking about the situation and the possibility of me playing here (this) year,” said Wells. “Houston would be a good spot for me to make my home. They have a great team. Hopefully they will give me an opportunity to come here and play my game.”

During his career, Wells has averaged 12.8 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.3 assists a game.“They already have what they need with Yao and Tracy McGrady. Hopefully I can come and be a good teammate. With Yao and Tracy there that would make my life a whole lot easier because I would have a whole lot of open shots and the lane would be wide open for me with those getting most of the attention.”

Wells, who played most in Sacramento last year, acknowledges that Denver and Miami are also possibilities if nothing works out here in Houston.

I would love it if this happend, if this happned we could get something for nothing. Its a win win for the kings. I dont see the rockets passing us up since they first have to have a healthy team.:D
