What seed/how many wins next season? (merged)

This is really hard to say. Last September I thought we were going to have an awesome team, as did many of us here.

I think losing Bonzi has undeservedly sapped some of my enthusiasm for the team's prospects this year. The team's turning point was the arrival of Artest and he's still here. Bonzi was a nice addition, but we also did well without him.

This season we also ought to have a better backup at PG. Salmons better be better than Hart or...

Intellectually, at this point, I think this team has more potential than last year's. But emotionally I was much more excited about last year's team.

Maybe the trades will change that.

Working from memory I'd say we'll be at least as good as the post Artest team that started Martin. Back of the envelope I guess 46-50 wins.

(This would be a good poll once the roster is confirmed.)

I will hold off numbers until closer to the season...

Some comments, If Kmart plays like he did when starting last year and continues to improve we will gain some things offensively that Bonzi didn't give us. Definitely going to loose the rebounding but before I go jumping off the bridge I need to see how Muss is going to run the offense. I don't think we will make up for all rebounding numbers Bonzi gave us but I do like the look of this team on the floor:

Bibby/Martin/Artest/SAR/Miller

If anything would like to see a rebounding monster in place of SAR. However i'm not sure if there are any realistic scenario's to make that happen.

shouldnt we hold off on the wins predictions until we see the team in action? i'll wait until i see a few preseason games before i make my prediction....

we won 44 last year without artest and 7 games under .500 until he got there. So 8 more wins is not inconcievable.

Ehh but we had Bonzi not some dude named Salmons. Bonzi was our low-post threat he killed the Spurs front-line in the playoffs it's unfortunate we're gonna let him walk and get nothing in return cause it seems like that will be the case.

I really hope the other posters realize that Joker is probably just clowning arround with this thread. (He is after all called the Joker-Full Metal Jacket) The thread is pointless enough to close and harmeless enough to ingnore.

i always like full metal jacket a great deal. great, classic movie.

to answer the question posed.... i will speculate between 38-45.

So in you're mind we're not a playoff team currently?

I think we will fight for the 8th spot. Maybe the 7th. I think the top 4-5 teams could all be 55-60 win teams there for the 8th spot might be a sub .500. But it is really too early to tell. I am going by what we have right now.

10.... if you aim low you will be satisfied with the results regardless....

Ummm here's a new one - our front line needs a change. If not----

Definitely Can't beat:

Clippers
Lakers
Suns
Mavs
Spurs

Probably can't beat

Hornets
Utah
Denver

If Artest keeps the same perfect attitude:

#8 Seed

LAst season we went 3-1 over Utah, 4-0 over Clips, 3-1 over Denver, and 2-2 with LA. Bonzi Wells didn't play in some of those victories, so losing him is THAT much of a loss. Especially against the Clips who we seem to own despite the fact that 1-8 they're more talented than us!

The Jazz have a team that is in a weak division hence the 3rd seed. They will win the division imo but barely be above .500. As for the 8th spot I think it will be us, the Lakers, and Denver fighting for it. Ig you want to make it a bit more interesting take the 7th seed, and throw us in the mix with Memphis, Lakers, and Denver. If we could get 6th and face the Nuggs, or Jazz that would be awesome. That means in the second round we would face Phoenix, or the Clippers. We should be 7th-10th though, and only getting that high based on heart alone. 7th beaing if K-Mart develops into my sig below next year.

Rules have changed this year -- Division winners and best non-division winner are still the Top 4 seeds, but they are ranked by W/L now. So if the winner of the NW really is the weakest of the 4 teams, it will end up as the #4 seed.

I see. Thats a good thing. Should have done this this year.

Soooooo... We want to be 5th :D

Brick, since you bring alot of knowledge to the board i'm wondering were you stat the Kings right now currently?

I normally intentionally stay out of the prediction game, just too many variables. I mean, in no particular order:

-- Muss has never coached a winner in the NBA. it is coincidence, can he do it, how much does he still have to learn? Very inexperienced assistants too.

-- Ron, always a question, is it still good Ron? What happens if we struggle, will he hold it togetehr or get frustrated. How do he and Muss get along? Can he step forward on offense?

-- Kevin, is he up for it? New role, and not surprising people anymore. They will gameplan for him. Will he be as good as last year? Better? Worse? Will he do well under Muss? Badly? A 14pt scorer? 18? Platoon if Muss falls in love wiht somebody else?

-- All the young kids filling out the backcourt, so much youth, How many will step forward, will any really open eyes, will they collapse into a puddle?

-- Brad, will he be better, on the glass in particular? Worse? He's getting older...

-- SAR, can he rebound (literally?). Will there be any options if not? Can/will we turn to him for big offense? If we do, is that a good thing? Bad sign for teams in the past...

-- KT, will he be here? If he is can he unseat SAR again? If not, will he pout and be ineffective? How will that effect our chemistry.

-- What's our personality? We are a mishmash. Our players are random. Some want to run, some walk, some defend, some can't spell it. Do we find a personality, or is it another season long struggle?

-- will there be more moves?

-- who is our offensive goto guy? Still don't know.

-- injuries -- Ron always gets nicked up, Bibby has youth behind him, last year was the first in forever Brad stayed healthy.

etc.

Its just impossible. I can give a huge range: more than 35, less than 55, likely in the mid to high 40's. But it could go either way. We are no contender. But we also shouldn't be a low lottery team (that is unless we wise up and take a dive to get Oden ;) ). We should at least be in the fight for a playoff spot, and hopefully be in the 5-8 mix.

Look at it this way, one game after getting artest we were 18 and 26 (18-26). and we fought back to get to the 8th seed, now were starting with basically the same team, minus bonzi + slamons, and i think sar will be back to his normal weight and conditioning wise he should be better. So it's hard for me to see how we wont be pretty damn good, starting off at 0-0, instead of last year where the season really started at 18-26. IMO

Rarely works that way though. Look at Denver the year before.

It might, but more likely we had a bit of a false high there with Artest and of course momentum. Much harder to sustain over a full year. Not to mention the roster and coaching turnover.

that's true, but denver got a new coach and then went on a rise, the players were proabbly sick of all those wnba and develpment league coaches, and wehn karl came in they really kicked it into high gear. ppl say karl can getting annoying so thats proabably what happened, combined with nene's injury and there lack of shooting, plus there was that earl watson ordeal that had to have some affect on the team.... Where as the kings kicked it into high gear when they got a great player, ron's definitley no angle, but he has something to prove and i think he wants to be a beast for itleast one full season, also id be surprised to see sar have a worse year than last year, his weight should be back on his conditioning should be better, and he had a chance to adapt to a semi-winning culture.
