What seed/how many wins next season? (merged)

I'd guess 6-8 as well. The team is worse than last year's (on paper), but will play better than it did at the beginning of last year. And there's bound to be growing pains with a new coach, a few new (young) players, and the loss of a veteran performer and our best rebounder.

I'd guess the wins will probably stay about the same.

Why are you asking this question? Right now with the way this team stands, they will probably be watching the playoffs at home.

gotta figure that phoenix, clippers (ack!), san antonio, dallas, and denver (for their division) are in.

and for the last three spots, i think that new orleans (double ack!) and utah are stronger than us right now. so...kinda leaves one spot between us, the rockets, and lakers.

if i remember correctly, top teams in their division plus the 4th best team in the conference get the 1-4 spots based on wins. so this year, it would've been spurs 1, mavs 2, suns 3, nuggets 4.

Since apparently we have God on our side (according to Salmons he's not in Toronto), I predict an NBA Championship.

It would take some serious divine intervention. And not our usual kind which allows Robert Horry to make shots.

5-7, and lose in the 2nd round. I think we're going to make a few more moves before all is said and done. I'll post my stupid, ridiculous ideas in the personnel moves forum.

i think we can win our division, i dont think the clips are that good, and our record was similar to phoenix's after we got ron.
We can definitley compete with phonix for the 2nd seed, much more so than the last two years, i think at the very least well be a 4 or a 5, if dallas and S.A. are real close like last year

What is the source of optimism here? Check out the roster and you will see it is made up of prospects. Bibby, Martin, Artest, Thomas, Miller, SAR is a decent (not great) 6. Beyond that we are rolling the dice with SCRUBS.

I think scrubs is a little too strong a word.

My optimism is based on potential. Why not? It wouldn't be the first time a group of players no one expected to put it together actually became much more than the sum of their parts.

GO KINGS!!!

There's no reason to be so Milk Lady about the upcoming season. I mean, for one, a LOT of us have no idea what we have. Martin, Garcia, Amundson, Douby, and Williams haven't really shown their ceiling yet. Plus, there's two months left in the offseason.

Generally, as long as we end up better than "them" - I could really care less. At this point it doesn't matter weather we lose in the first round or not make it at all.
With this roster - POs aren't a given and we are only one bad trade or injury away from lottery. We still didn't address any of our needs. Something has got to happen here. Just a thought of a Hart -Salmons -Williamson -Thomas - Potapenko lieneup makes me nauseous.

i'm gonna wait to see the finished product by the end of the off-season to make any sort of estimate, since I would really hate to see this current line-up hit the court come November. but as things currently stand, i can't share with others optimism that we would be a lock to make the play-offs at all. i would guess maybe 8th or 9th as it stands.

even if we go into next season with this exact roster, well make the playoffs. We were fine for a while with just brad, sar, and kt after we got ron. so theres no reason to say we cant do it again, obviously without more bigs we wont advance past the second round, but we could still get a 2 or 4 seed and win one round with the roster we have, agansta team like denver, lal, or memphis

If we enter this season with our current roster we would be a borderline playoff team, if that. The NBA may be more on guards than big men now, but give me one team that didn't have solid big men and won the championship. Miami, Detroit(not anymore), San Antonio, the Lakers (with Shaq), all had good/great big men. Dallas as well now. You notice that all these teams with good big men are considered contenders. We have 1 solid big man in Miller and thats were it stops.

Ok to be honest If I was NOT currently infurrited with what I see as a couple of knee jerk DUMB decisions that WILL negativly impact the Kings I MIGHT have said as I usaly do, that this thread is ridicously premature. But to be honest THAT is optimistic. Of course I have no idea if this (hopefully) incomplet line up can make the play offs against the competition MUCH of which IS incompleete and virtually never waste my time on the idle speculation of this sort.

BUT given the middling squad the Kings have baring a trade for a serious bigman to start and/or some exceptionl emergence from the rookies probably the WORST thing that could happen is for them to make the play offs. That would just perpetuate the scramble under the cap to try to stay a top 8 team in the confrence that will give us season after season of early exits. If the team has to throw away a season for future improvment THIS would be the one. New coach, a couple expiring contracts allowing for at least one decent FA aquisation next season and a high pick in a GOOD draft, then come back next year with the best of the rookies from this year, some new tallent and a coach who KNOWS what his team is doing.

As is we lost not just a stud 2 gaurd who basically single handedly kept us in the the first round, but the ONE guy that even began to make up for the pathetic rebounding from THE SAME frontline we apear to be bringing back. We also down graded our coach from a top 5 guy to ? Then we spent our MLE on a bench player that MIGHT bring in 10, 2 and 7 at the point and 2 gard spot... I find it really hard to be optimistic about this. But the folks that think the Kings will make the play offs are probably right, we probalby will not get lucky enough to land in the lottery.

I think we should wait a little bit ... I still believe that GP is able to bring a big guy .. I hope Magl ... right now it is not the best roster in NBA definitely... with Magl (for Thomas and Cisco for example) we will have a chance to get 4th pl.

I agree with you and I think this is way to premature. Right now with Monia going over to Europe we have 16 guys under contract...not all gauranteed. But, we do have about 12 million in expiring contracts this summer that will hopefully be used in a trade.

I'd be pleasantly surprised if the Kings pulled out the division title or a top 4 seed. It is certainly possible, but I just don't see it happening.

That said, I'd also be quite surprised if the Kings don't make the playoffs (like many of us were last year about the bad start). They did have the 5th best record over the last few months of the season, and they also played well with Wells injured, so I don't see why they would all of a sudden play much worse this year.

I think they can get a 5th or 6th seed and 45-48 wins.

I say the Kings will make 6, plus or minus a position.

Just because Bonzi walked everyone is talkin doom and gloom. The rebounding wont take that much of a hit (Miller and Shareef should have better numbers in that department without Bonzi around and with Muss motivating).

K-Mart will start, and he seems to be improving constantly. He'll probably average around 16 and 5, with a steal or two.

Salmons is definately overpayed, but he should come off the bench and be a decent role player.

And IMHO Musselman is an upgrade over Adelman in the coaching department. Rick seemed to be in a perpetual state of confusion, he overplayed starters to the point of exhaustion, and he couldnt motivate if his life depended on it.

Cheer up people! Petrie DEFINATELY needs to address the need for a bigman, and Bonzi walking is very dissapointing (better then overpaying an injury prone 30 year old though), but there's still a lot of offseason left for trades, which Petrie is good at.

I for one am gonna wait and see what happens before I assume the Kings are gonna crash and burn.

All right... seriously which of the guys 7-15 is not a scrub? And, what would you define as a scrub - maybe it is a difference in interpretation about what constitues a scrub?

edit: I want to clarify - I'm optimistic too... for an entertaining season where we play tough on the home court. But I think we're on the outside looking in playoff wise. What team can shed it's second or third best player and improve?

and... I don't hate the guys I'm calling scrubs. I'll root my head off for them. I love Francisco and think every team would love to have a guy like him... but not 8 of them.

We had 44 wins last year and that was only good enough for 8th seed. 45-48 is too little IMO for 5th or 6th seed. We could have somewhere around 50-54 wins if we play good and start better than last year.
