What New Players Would You Want On The Kings?

Since we can't watch any pre-season games on Comcast, maybe this will keep us occupied for a week or so. What players not currently with the Kings would you like to see as Kings players? DON'T even bother mentioning Kobe, LeBron, Durant or Afflalo. Be realistic, please. These players could be acquired by trade(s) or free agency. We'll work out the trades later, but as a starting point, let's just get some players mentioned. And don't forget to mention why you would like to see them as a King.

Huh?

There were like two proposals made on the board a month ago the effect of which would have gotten Afflalo out of the Nuggets for cheap. In my opinion, Afflalo would be a sensible acquisition, though not a game-changer by any means. However, some people thought the Afflalo talk was overblown, and puffed it up into a meme.

He's now 30 years old, and that doesn't seem possible to me, but I've always liked Jamal Crawford. Atlanta is trying to lowball him right now and probably won't be able to afford him at seasons end with Horfords contract also coming up. He's a good passer and ballhandler. He's turned himself into a pretty good shooter and not a bad defender. The only downside might be his age, which is probably borderline with our current group.

I wouldnt mind Battier as a Vet presence to show the kids how to really D up. But of course he would be taking time away from Donte and Omri. We could play him at the two some. hes the one guy that seemed to be able to stop tyreke so it would be nice to have him on our side.

I would love to somehow get Eric Gordon and run him in the backcourt with Tyreke. Don't see the Clippers offering him up in a trade though. But at some point one of our bigs will have to go, simply a number game, and if/when we're looking to trade them, I would try to pry Gordon out of LA. Don't know what the probability of that happening in though.

I think Anthony Parker would make a great fit for the Kings. I'm probably biased as a Maccabi fan because he is a legend to us, but last year, while his numbers weren't that impressive within the LeBron offense, he was the only player who started for Cleveland in all 82 games, and for a good reason - he was their best defender in the backcourt, he led the NBA in 3-point percentage, he doesn't need the ball to be effective, and probably most of all, he is a very positive veteran locker room presence. His contract is also pretty cheap - around 2 million, expiring this year. If the Kings are looking for a SG who would not need to take the ball away from Tyreke, and provide shooting, defense, and veteran leadership, I would love to see him on our roster.

If the backcourt really were bare and we were just looking for a patch that would expire along with everybody else next year, it wouldn't be the worst fit in the world. Vet, can shoot, plays defense, stays out of the way. And after what happened in Clevelnad, is probably available. But the backcourt isn't THAT bare, Beno and Cisco are alreayd there wiht liong term deals and being counted on for their own veteran leadership, and obviously a team in our positiojn might not mind having Anthony Parker, but isn't going to want ot give up any young assets for a 35 year old who may not be any better than the guys we already have at this point and would likely be here only for the 1 yr rental.

@Mac: What we need is a beast of a rebounder off the bench that gives us that spark, which Blair provides and he isn't too shabby on offense.

Of course, the Kings shouldn't give up young assets to get a 35 year old guard, as much as I love Parker. But with Cleveland pretty much torn to pieces and in desperate need of rebuild, I figure it might be possible to get him for a future second rounder or something of that sort.

We have a good shot at being a Top 5 rebounding team this year between our combination of big reboudning bigs (Dalembert, Cousins, JT) and big-rebounding PG. We're actually set there for the first time in...perhaps the first time this century.

Shockingly, last year was our BEST rebounding year of the decade, in terms of percentage of rebounds grabbed:
99-00: 48.6%
00-01: 49.5%
01-02: 50.2%
02-03: 49.3%
03-04: 48.4%
04-05: 48.9%
05-06: 49.0%
06-07: 47.3%
07-08: 48.9%
08-09: 47.0%
09-10: 50.3%

The 01-02 team (the last year with a full or nearly-full season from Webber, Divac, and Pollard) was the only other one to outrebound their opponents. That surprises me a bit, but we really were a very average rebounding team - we won in other ways. With a full season of Dalembert, Cousins, and Thompson in the frontcourt, and with Tyreke in the backcourt, we may push 51% this year (last year the Cavs were at 52.4%, Magic at 51.9%). A back-of-the-envelope calculation says that we'd gain about 1.5 points per game on our margin based on possessions alone if we jumped to 51%. Last year our total margin was -4.4, so we'd still be at about -3.0 and need to make up another 3 points in our offense/defense to get us about to .500.
