OK...I know, most of you would say, who cares if we win this season, we're not championship contender good, so we should just build for the future. I agree with that to a point, but this is the NBA, and winning is the bottom line. If a team doesn't perform, even if it is rebuilding, there are consequences for those involved in said mediocre team. Therefore, looking at our roster, and having a 1-6 preseason record to go by, I would have to make the following conclusions.
A) The Kings have been getting torched defensively...Several guards have had great games against us, and the dominant bigs of Portland, Houston, and Dallas have feasted on royalty.
B) Turnovers are a terrible problem, leading to said poor defense, as it increases easy baskets for the other team
C) Shooting percentage and ball movement have been sup par for the kings...Too much dribbling, awkward lineups, and young players have helped speed this one along.
So for some solutions?
I would like the Kings to try this starting lineup, as it would give us a much bigger front line, and should theoretically help protect the basket and rebound.
PG: Bobby Jackson (Veteran presence who brings it defensivly on a night to night basis...This would allow Beno to come off the bench and be an energy spark offensivly (Especially alongside Francisco and John). He's a good shooter, and would be able to feed Jason, or Spencer on the block, or Brad at the high post of the triangle.)
SG: Kevin Martin (No Brainer...He's the horse on the offensive end, and can get in opposing guard's grill enough to bother them with his length and quickness.)
SF: Jason Thompson (Yeah...he was drafted to be a PF, and we have John"I can't play from the bench" Salmons as the incumbent 3 starter...Jason is so fast up the court, and he would be a terrific matchup nightmare for opposing 3s. This would help our deficient rebounding tremendously, and he would defer to K-Mart much more than John would...Plus, we'd get to see some more blocks and protection of the basket on defense.)
PF: Spencer Hawes (I know...he's not a PF he's a C, but he has the basketball skill to dominate offensively against PFs, and defensively he could give us the shotblocking that Brad lacks. He'd be a dominant rebounder at the 4 position at least in Spencer Hawes terms, and would pass offensivly with Brad and Bobby.)
C: Brad Miller (Best passing big man we have, and could be a third shooter to increase offensive productivity. Would not need to be a rebounding machine (which he is not) inorder to be successful defensively...Box out, and take up some space)
This leaves a second unit of energy guys:
Beno Udrih
Francisco Garcia
John Salmons
Mikki Moore
Sheldon Williams
I think the ball movement in this line up would be great, as there aren't any ball stoppers in it...They can all defend their positions well, and their team defense would imnprove with the added length on the court. Rebounding should be better, and shooting percentages should go up as the passing and spacing improves.
