I'm going with a legit starting pg as the #1 need. I'm not convinced Westphal is the biggest problem right now. The guys came out playing hard, ran the offense well, and defended well for the first 30 mins last night. That shows me these guys know the offense, and can execute better when their heads are in the game. We don't have a leader, period. We need a player who can command respect from the other guys, and hold them responsible for breaking off the offense on their own, missing defensive rotations, not passing when they should, etc..
A legit starting point would help the offense immensely. Someone who understand the flow of an nba game, how important feeding the post is, feeding the hot hand, getting guys in the right positions, composure. It would also allow Tyreke to move off the ball some, and take some pressure off him, as well as tutor him. Tyreke would learn a lot.
The fact there is such a void in leadership on this team means by definition, a legit starting point would help fill that void, and make sure the offense is actually being run. I still like the rock in Tyreke's hands, and that is how he will be most effective. But there are better places on the floor to give him the rock and let him go to work. Tyreke and Cousins should still remain the focal point of the offense, and the clear first and second option. But the lack of spacing, ability to set up or run a play, selfishness from multiple guys, and ball movement can really be helped by acquiring a legit strting pg.
Say what you want about Hinrich and Arenas, but I guarantee Wall is learning a lot from those two every day. That is something Tyreke needs. As much as I love Beno, he's not the answer.
