Just wanted to take a survey, and get a general idea of what everyone think the Kings biggest need is. Obviously there are multiple areas which need improving. But heading towards the trade deadline, and next offseason with our financial flexibility, if there was one single move this franchise made, what would you want it to be above all else?

A high quality vet with leadership skills. That's the one thing they don't have and badly need.

The real biggest needs

1. ARENA
2. A Poppovich like Coach :D

other than that we need a vet point guard who can teach reke some savvy skills..

Excellent question. I'd have to go with veteran leadership, but the veteran has to be good. Cisco is a veteran leader, but he can't do it on the floor.

Next, I'd focus on acquiring quick players who are two-way players - they can score and they can play D. I just don't want to see more acquistion of one-way players. And, if they can possibly unload a couple of one-way players (Beno and Landry) for one two-way player, then all the better.

There are obviously way too many needs to name. But, if I had to name one that comes to mind, I would pick a player that can score in tough situations, when teams adjust, etc. A player that will make those difficult shots that you have to double team, then it opens things up for others. Problem is, no shooters on this team so that would be another concern if there was a double team.

I'm going with a legit starting pg as the #1 need. I'm not convinced Westphal is the biggest problem right now. The guys came out playing hard, ran the offense well, and defended well for the first 30 mins last night. That shows me these guys know the offense, and can execute better when their heads are in the game. We don't have a leader, period. We need a player who can command respect from the other guys, and hold them responsible for breaking off the offense on their own, missing defensive rotations, not passing when they should, etc..

A legit starting point would help the offense immensely. Someone who understand the flow of an nba game, how important feeding the post is, feeding the hot hand, getting guys in the right positions, composure. It would also allow Tyreke to move off the ball some, and take some pressure off him, as well as tutor him. Tyreke would learn a lot.

The fact there is such a void in leadership on this team means by definition, a legit starting point would help fill that void, and make sure the offense is actually being run. I still like the rock in Tyreke's hands, and that is how he will be most effective. But there are better places on the floor to give him the rock and let him go to work. Tyreke and Cousins should still remain the focal point of the offense, and the clear first and second option. But the lack of spacing, ability to set up or run a play, selfishness from multiple guys, and ball movement can really be helped by acquiring a legit strting pg.

Say what you want about Hinrich and Arenas, but I guarantee Wall is learning a lot from those two every day. That is something Tyreke needs. As much as I love Beno, he's not the answer.

You basically just described Rayond Felton. One of the main players I had hoped the Kings would acquire in free agency. And he was very attainable, too. The Knicks signed him to 2 years at 14 million. Good chance The Kings could have gotten him for 5 years 35-40 million.

That's true. Felton as suprised everyone and is playing at a near all star level every night. But I didn't see it coming, and most didn't. He's playing far better this year than any of his career. Of course in hindsight 7M per is a steal for how he's playing right now. But I never saw anything out of him in Charlotte which would have lead me to believe he was about to take his game up a level or two.

I can't say I saw him breaking out like he has (some of it probably has to do with being on a better team) but I said before the season started that he was an underrated PG and one of the primary people The Kings should be pursuing. I was laughed at and told I didn't know what I was talking about by few folks for it, too. Looks like I'm having the last laugh now though, hehe. Even in Charlotte he averaged like 15 and 7 plus 1.5 steals and 3.5 rebounds, which is considerably better than Beno. He's not Chris Paul or Deron Williams but he's a very good PG, a good defender, and is still young enough to be part of a team's future long term.

If the organization is 100% convinced that this squad has tremendous upside and then a veteran will do good otherwise a veteran will not accomplish anything IMO.

A coach that fits the players on the team and understands how to utilize them to their fullest potential even if they are having a down moment. Another part that goes hand in hand is a team with players that compliment each other. Considering that this team was really built on the basis of acquiring talent alone, as most young teams are, it's not hard to understand why a team like this doesn't really look all that comfortable with themselves or each other.

New team, new coach, new life. He got lucky and signed with a team and a coach that suits his style of play.

Had Felton signed here, I'm sure he would've been playing like crap just like everyone else and everyone would've been calling for GP's head for giving him big bucks.

Ahemm! I never laughed at you. I liked Felton, although he's playing better than I thought he would. I'm happy of him though. Funny that you call the Knicks a better team. I doubt many people thought they would be this good, even with the signing of Stoudemire. I think to be fair, you'd have to say that Felton has something to do with the Knicks being a good team.

My first choice would be for a veteran player. But not just any veteran player. Someone the young players would look up to. Someone thats been there and done that, and done it well. Someone that either is a star, or whose star brightness is dimming a little.

Give me that, and I'll wait on number two, which would be a new coach. I'd be willing to ride with Westphal for a while to see how he does with a veteran leader helping him. And I'm not talking about a Brad Miller do over. I have my preferences, but then I'm sure everyone does.

Felton definitely has a lot to do with it. But I think people underrate Stoudemire and how good he can make a team. He's a top 10-15 player in my opinion.

I truly believed Stoudemire wouldn't be as good as he was in Phoenix without Nash giving him all those easy looks. Boy did he prove me wrong and show he is just as good, if not better now. He is the focal point of the team and everything goes through him when they need offense, he provides it.

Go out and spend max money on a guy and you better be looking better!

All the ideas are good ideas above, but the way the team looks I just can't help but think without a new direction it would all be moot unless those players fit the exact model that Westphal needs to play the style he wants. If recent history is any indication all that would lead to is young-ins going to the bench in favor of Ime Udoka Jr. and whatever band-aid stop gaps Westphal can drudge up. Wonder if Desmond Mason is looking for a gig? hehehe.

Cousins is making tons of mistakes, but still getting the minutes. The mediocre vet taking the young guy's minutes doesn't wash.

And to his credit he does try ALOT more on defence now, and he's a preety clutch defender, he usually came up with big defensive plays when we needed a stop late in the game.

What he's doing with the Knicks is just amazing...he's just unstopable right now... I just hope Mike D short 7-8 man rotation won't comeback to bite us is the *** come playoffs.

The Kings need to mature first. Second they need to have players that fit together. They have a lot of pieces that dont make a complete puzzle. Petrie needs to wheel and deal this offseason to bring in players we need using the players we dont. Next, we need to get incredibly lucky in the draft and have a super star potential point guard fall into our laps. Those dont come around often so that wold be pure luck. Then the owners need to get off of their wallet and spend the money necessary to acquire talented veteran players to surround the young nucleus of players the Kings are trying to build. Until this happens, the fans will continue to disappear, the arena will be empty, the tv money will dry up as no one will even watch that crap on tv, and they probably need a new coach who can build a team from nothing into something. I dont think Paul Westfall has it in him to improve and mold this team into a real contender. It will take a very dedicated fan to watch the rest of this season, because it isnt going to get any better at all. The Changes need to happen as soon as possible. The end of this westfail era is coming to an end at the end of this season if not sooner. It is a joke to watch what the Kings run as an offense and their defensive is non existent. Teams love playing the kings because we give up more layups and wide open shots than any team in the league. That is horrible defense. defense is effort. Someone needs to get these players to exert more effort in their games. It's just horrible to watch the outcome of the Kings games ever night. Change is soon to follow...

Yeah, he did step up on the defensive game a bit. He doesn't play it all game because that's just not who he is, and I'm sure they need him out there more and they don't want him to pick up silly fouls or anything like that. He does tend to block some shots at the rim though like he did when he was in Phoenix, number 32.

Yeah, and the more mistakes he can learn from now, the better we will be in the future. Go sign Horace Grant and shove him in front of our "franchise" players, see how that works for this team in 2 years. Notice how this team somehow seems to have a chance to win when Cousins is playing well. Which he has for the most part despite a mistake here and there BTW. Hmmm, go figure.

I was specifically talking about going out and signing vets that will only take time away from these young guys and give Westphal more bodies to yank in and out of the lineup.

1. New Coach
2. A real PG
3. Veteran leadership

I agree with a this. THE perfect PG for this team would be Chauncey Billups. He might be too old but the dude is like a coach out there. Can play off the ball and knock down the 3 and he plays some good D.

Its no coincidence that Denver got better when they got him and Detroit went down hill. If Melo gets traded by the deadline (as appears likely) Billups might become available and I think we should make a play for him.

At his age he is not going to be a long term fix or as good a scorer as he has been but he would provide enormous leadership and veteran savvy and by the time he is done, Tyreke and Cousins would have developed into the players we think they can be.
