What Are Your Expectations for Cousins This Year?

Kingster

Hall of Famer
Here are some 1st year stats on Cousins:

28.5 min/game
14.1 pts/game
8.6 rebs/game
68.7% FT %
2.5 assists/game
3.3 turnovers/game
4.4 personal fouls/game
0.8 block/game

What are your expectations for him this coming season?

I just hope he gets less whiny verbally and less facially whiny (the Brad Miller face). I know he's a competitor but stuff like that doesn't help him with the officials.

Other than that, I expect him to get more polished with his overall game moving forward. Hope to see some CWebb/Vlade style passing sometime soon.

Just more composure, less travelling, less fouling.

baby steps, lets get the erratic stuff out of the way, then focus on dominating on the court, which he can definitely do.

I hope he gets his emotions a little more in check as well, however I don't think he is any worse than the Kobe's, Pau's, and Garnett's of the league.... He just gets singled out more often.

I'm going to be foolishly optimistic here (as I am often wont to do) and say that Boogie explodes this year (in a good way).
35 min/game
20 pts/game
10 rebs/game
5 assists/game (having a year under his belt and Jimmer/MT/Tyreke with a hopefully improved jumper help boost this stat)
3 turnovers/game
3.5 personal fouls/game (having had an extending offseason to evaluate himself, Cuz took some meditation classes and learns to play controlled)
1 block/game

Yes, I am still a complete homer

Double all the stats except for fouls and turnovers, obviously ;) Seriously though, he should be in better shape (going by what little could be seen over the lockout) and should get less fouls called on him, not being a rookie any more. Therefore, I expect his minutes to increase and, with that, his overall production. If he manages to improve in the TO column, I'll take that as icing on the cake.

Cousins:

17 PPG
9.5 RPG
3.5 APG
1.1 BPG
3.8 FPG
1.2 SPG

I think he's capable of that. Actually I think he's capable of more than that, but I don't want to get too far ahead of myself. I see Cousins averaging a double/double every night. I just don't see it this year. Maybe he'll surprise me..

Thing is he walked in as a rookie acting like that. You have to earn your way into the minds of the Officials. Plus, the sour face thing would irk the sheet out of me if I was an official, or hell, even a teammate.

Ok, lets leave Antoinne Wright out of this....

17/9/4 with fewer turnovers and erratic play dictated more by when he still gets into foul trouble than by just not showing up.

Less fouls and more judgment with the passes. The scoring and rebounds will take care of themselves.

I don't know, it depends on how Westphal interacts with him and uses him.

If he's used right? I expect: DOMINATION.

for anyone hoping to see big improvements with Cuz in the scowling and facial demeanor on the court, we'll I dont see it happening.

Anyone that was at the Goon squad game could see that even at a charity pick up game that wasn't even important AT ALL he was still scowling at the refs.

I dont think one rookie season can fix this...its going to take longer.

Stop the whining. Correcting fundamental basketball mistakes will come naturally through time. However, if you begin to whine and complain at an early age, it will only get worse.

No doubt that you will be right sometimes Demarcus, but the more you walk away from crappy calls, the better off you will be.

I think with the shortened season he will be better.. I know he came on late in the year, but with him knowing his role and getting used to the playing time he should put up something close to;

17ppg
10rpg
1.5bpg
2.5apg
45% FG (which should be up close to 50% in a few years)

I'm not going to predict stats but I do expect him to have double double's almost nightly. A little too much this early? not at all. With the skills and fundamentals he has I don't think it's out of the question to set our standards high for DeMarcus because he's the closest thing we have to a franchise type of player IMO. As far as his attitude, take it out on your opponent. Don't get into fights with teammates please and just let the coach...coach or whatever it is he does.

I'm not gonna post any numbers. I just hope he proves to everyone this year that he's a power forward and not a big bad under 6'11 center.

He has a 9'5 standing reach and people are worried about him being a center? He isn't any shorter than Hakeem was.

I think Cousins will ratchet up his stats a bit but lower his TOs and PFs. Individually he's going to be more mature by manning up some. I think he's going to have a terrific season. Go Kings!!!
