What about the future?

I didn't watch the game, too many other personal chores to do. But judging from what I saw on the newswires and the comments here..maybe it's a good thing I didn't see tonight's game.

I would type in more, but it was a long, tiring day at the office and at home, so I'll chip in with my opinons tomorrow...after I'm more refreshed and have some caffeine in my system.

But for now, I'm still proud of my Monarchs. They fought 'til the very end of this game, and didn't roll over.

They say that championships are built during the off-season, so I'm already thinking what the M's should do in TDOS. It may be an off-season for the players, but the Monarchs front office (as well as the league office) knows that there really is no such a thing as an "off-season". Lots of things to be concerned about:

* The WNBA's Collective Bargaining Agreement expires at the end of this season.

* The possibility of a compacted schedule for next season, complicated by next year's Summer Olympics.

* If the WNBA expands (Colorado, Atlanta, and maybe Kansas City) next season, how would an expansion draft affect our M's? And which players should we keep, and which ones should be left unprotected?

* Will the WNBA All-Star Game finally move out West?

* Will the Seattle Storm be the Oklahoma City [fill nickname here] in 2008?

* Who should the Monarchs go after in the college draft?

* What will the WNBA office do about the returnees of overseas players coming just before the regular season starts, and completely missing the pre-season training camp? [I know this topic has been brought up before, either here or on other boards.]

Oh, well, have a good overseas season, ladies.

I'll leave the rest to ponder later and/or be answered by other people. But, as far as this question is concerned, I think it depends on what Griffith's intentions are... If she decides to come back for one more year, then I think that we need to consider trading the draft pick for a veteran, and make one last run. Otherwise, it's a no-brainer that we need to draft a young post.

I think you draft/aquire a post regardless.
The question is... do you get a vet for the wings or do you aquire another Vet Post player.

Personally I think a great deal of what happens with this team depends more on the health of DeMya. Where is she in her recovery. Is she/or isn't she You know what. Because no matter what Jen-nay says, If DeMya is not available to go it really changes the discussion.

But I will go into my thoughts on that at another time in another thread.

This was originally part of the game 3 post discussion but since it's really looking forward and not back I moved it to its own thread.

ahhhh

Agreed. And what about the rumor about her being pregnant again?

Hey!!!!

Shhhh.... I didn't say the word Dangit.

But one does wonder. If it is true, her health issue takes a different turn. I am wondering how much rehap she can do p******t. But for the time being it is just a Rumor...

The more pressing concern is how is her tendon Rehab coming. She was noticable limping the last few times I saw her. And I am not sure if that is a good thing or bad thing.

Come December we should have a clear picture of where she is, cause by then she should be able to do certain things and be more aggresive in her training.

More important it gives MFO time to line up alternatives if we are in a worse case scenario with her.

Still debating on what moves could be made. After all we are not even a day removed from the season being over. I am inclined to try and get a Vet wing player. If need be trade for one. This is definately a year where deals can be made and I expect a lot of player movement.

we need a post regardless of whether Yo retires or not. Who better to mentor our young new post that the best post player in Monarch's perhaps WNBA history.

An expansion draft would really throw a wrench to a lot of teams...Monarchs included. IF Yo doesn't come back though, that's one less player to protect.

What draft picks do we have for this coming draft? Do we have a first rounder? will we be able to get anyone useful in the 3rd round?

We have our 1st round draft pick, no 2nd round pick (I think that was what we gave up for LaTangela Atkinson), and I think we have THREE 3rd round picks. We have our normal pick in the 3rd round, a bonus one for the Meg Bulger pick (assuming the league approved that), and we got Indy's in the Jessica Dickson trade. I think that's where we stand, but I'm not positive.

I think its been pretty obvious that the monarchs main problem is not having a legit scorer who can create shots for herself. Kara and Nicole are not that type of player. They are much better 2nd and 3rd options and quite frankly running our offense so they get the majority of the shots isnt going to get it done.

I think this off season we need to go after a proven scorer...our offense is terrible
