Welcome to the Kings, Thomas Robinson

I can't tell if its his emotions or just a bit upset. He looks kinda ticked in the interview that I watched. I really hope he wants to be here.

He was trying really hard to control tears. This was a dream come true for him and for his promise to his mother to take care of his little sister, Jayla.

This is supposed to be a WELCOME thread, folks.

Welcome to Sacramento and the Kings, Thomas Robinson. I'm already an admirer of your character, work ethic and maturity. I think fans are going to really love you. We love players who play with relentless effort. :)

Not a great fit at all, but a steal at 5.

If IT and T Rob are starting we are really small at 2 positions.

I hope it works out.

Robinson is 6'9" and athletic...he is not "really small" for PF. He did absolutely fine against Kentucky's NBA frontline of Anthony Davis and Terrence Jones in the Championship game.

Yeeehaa! Can't have enough big guys who are uber athletes. He's got maturity and talent. There is no downside whatsoever. He's going to have a chip on his shoulder going 5, and that's all the better. We totally lucked out with this one.
He's 6'9 super athletic, physical specimen, with long wingspan. He's far from "undersized". He is a legit NBA PF.

Robinson is gonna be an effin beast for us. EFFIN BEAST!!!

Not a shotblocker at all...But all your rebounds are belong to us!

Welcome T. Rob!!!

If you consider Robinson undersized at the four then the Kings are undersized at three positions since DeMarcus is less than an inch taller at the five spot

Back on topic - welcome to the Kings Thomas Robinson

Man, I kept reading that TRob had a family tragedy, but then I read the whole story from the 2011 ESPN Magazine and maaannn... I'm even more happy about this pick. Looking forward to great things from you Mr. Robinson! Welcome aboard!

You may have been mixing up one guys w/shoes height vs. the other guy's wo/shoes height or something. Gap's bigger than an inch:

Robinson
wo/shoes 6'7.75
w/shoes 6'8.75

Cousins
wo/shoes 6'9.5
w/shoes 6'10.75

To give you an idea, btw,

Carl Landry
wo/shoes 6'7.75
w/shoes 6'8.5

on the other hand its also the height of Carlos Boozer, Udonis Haslem, Glen Davis, David Lee, Kevin Love, Kurt Thomas, Antawn Jamison, Jeff Green, OMri Casspi etc. All of those guys are considered shortish (SFs aside), but its tall enough to obviously allow a guy to have a very strong career if the talent is there. I think you could classify that height as "tall enough".

Robinson has a 7'3" wingspan though. Carl Landry had a 5'3" wingspan.

Undersized? Robinson is relentless. I can lose count on the amount of guys in the history of the league who were apparently undersized, but became great players and defenders.

you guys have to stop looking at an inch, inch and a half and focus on this guy's heart, motor, and will to succeed. That is the main aspect in which we won tremendously.

Great pick up that fell into our lap. Mr. Robinson's high motor and athleticism is a good compliment to DMC's game. Now we have a guy that can guard the super quick and athletic 4s like Blake Griffin. Welcome.

If we wind up with a Boozer-level player (minus the douchebaggery of course) out of the pick, I will be a happy man.

Let's not discount the fact he had the same vertical leap as Blake Griffin (or one inch more than Andre Drummunds, if you will)

Landry's pre-draft measurements:
wingspan: 6'11"
standing reach: 8'6.5"
max vert: 36.5

Robinson's pre-draft measurements:
wingspan: 7'3.25"
standing reach: 8'10"
max vert: 35.5

He apparently was told by his agent not to work out here and given some reason. I wonder when the last time was when a top pick didn't work out for the team that drafted him. He might be angry at his agent as much as anything. He certainly was given some bad advice as now he doesn't know what he is stepping into. Hope the Kings' players give him some calls. He seemed more tearful than anything else but I think he was left in a weird place by his agent. I imagine the agent will pick up his percentage of the contract anyway.

Welcome to Sacramento, Thomas! I hope to spend many a game thread typing "I <3 ThRob" during your stay here!

Well the Kings aren't a complete mystery to him. The Kings did interview him in Chicago. Someone out of the players that didn't work out for Sacramento was going to end up here. There were only four teams ahead of us. I blame out crappy owners for players not wanting to come and workout for the Kings.

Welcome Thomas Robinson and welcome Jayla! I really hope Sacramento treats them both well. All basketball related concerns aside, this is a tough kid who's already been through a lot. I'm sure his all-out effort will win over the Arco fans in no time!
