Welcome Jordan Farmar

According to David Pick, the Kings have agreed to a deal with Jordan Farmer. I believe he finished the season with Memphis.

so Collison, Lawson, Farmar, Temple, Isiah Cousins. and we were worried about a pg. we got 5 now. I assume cousins is D-league. but this is looking more and more like a collison trade looming

Something between camp fodder and Ty Lawson insurance, I suppose.

Collison/Lawson/Farmar/ICuz
Afflalo/Temple/McLemore/Richardson/Patterson
Gay/Casspi/Barnes
WCS/Tolliver/Labissiere
Cousins/Koufos/PapaG

That makes 18. 3 of those guys can't make it. Even if Patterson and ICuz are gimmes, one of Farmar/Lawson gets the boot too unless we do a 2-for-1 or 1-for-0 trade.

Bombs threes, has played on title teams, has the Joerger connection. Really, it makes sense again. Add an experienced vet who knows the coach and his system, and can provide space. When he was younger was even dynamic.

Thing about him though is he simply cannot stay healthy. He's just a toy surprise at this point that you check to see if he's going to be able to play any given day/month.

This is a really weird sign. Maybe he's just insurance for training camp? Just in case the coaches don't like what they see from Lawson? Or maybe they cut one of our SG/SFs? I could see the team cutting Ben since we have a long jam there.

Interesting to say the least.

One will be suspended to start the season, one is coming off a bad season and has baggage, one is a career journeymen, one is barely considered a PG although versatile and solid at other aspects, and the last is a complete unknown 2nd round rookie. We have bodies but a lot of question marks. The hope is between Lawson, Farmar and Temple they can at least hold their own initiate offense to start the season until Collison comes in.

Yep, unless there's a trade, Cousins(probably signed to Reno), Patterson and Farmar are the cuts. This is where drafting three first rounders, none of which you expect to make a difference in year one comes back to bite you. If you are completely rebuilding fine, but all our other moves were signing vets.

If there's a deal that improves the Kings then maybe but I doubt it at this point of the offseason.

If it's to move him because of the DV charge it seems odd that Vlade & co would trade Collison but keep Ty "Four DUIs" Lawson.

I think it's essentially Farmer vs Lawson for a backup role in camp. If Lawson returns to the way he played in Denver, that's not a competition at all. If he looks like the same player from the Rockets and Pacers last year then Farmar is good insurance.

Ha, Farmer's (Farmar's) Insurance.

These are odd responses -- Farmar has been sporadically effective over the years. Certainly for a potential 3rd string point guard he's borderline overqualified. This is a guy with 502 career games in the league, a career 13.3 PER, and an average of 19.5 minutes per game. he's played for Phil Jackson and Coach Joerger. He's played in 3 NBA Finals, and on two championship teams. He's better than Ray McCallum, Jimmer Fredette, and very likely Isiah Cousins. If you're looking to add a little more experience and a guy who's played on winning teams (without being the guy who made them win obviously) you could do worse.

Meh.... but uh...

Welcome dude!

I'll be getting neither butthurt, nor excited over this signing.

Yea, the key here is we could do a lot worse for a 3rd PG on the roster (and we were about to with ICuz and Temple slotted there before this signing) and Farmar still has some game left.

Good depth signing, but our plan to make the playoffs still resides with a Lawson resurgence.

I don't mind the signing at all. Farmer is a great 3rd PG type to have on the roster.

Having said that, I don't understand what we are trying to do here nor what this signing actually means.

Reading the tea leaves (and I hate doing that) I suspect we are aware what Collison's suspension will likely be so we felt like we needed a genuine Pg to back up Lawson while Collison is out.

What does this mean for Temple? He was sold on playing PG, SG and some SF when we spoke to him during free agency. We gave him a 3 year deal fully guaranteed. That implies that we see him as someone who will get consistent minutes at multiple positions but then we go ahead and stack all 3 positions with some players that might end up ahead of him in the rotation.

Looking at the depth charts we are stacked at every position. The quality of depth might not be great but there is genuine depth at every position.

I suspect that Farmer's deal is for non-guaranteed veteran minimum. There is either a trade on the way that clears out at lot of this depth or there will be playera waived and we will have one deep team.

C: Cousins / Koufos / Papagiannis
PF: Cauley-Stein / Tolliver / Labissiere
SF: Gay / Casspi / Barnes
SG: Afflalo / Temple / McLemore / Richardson / Paterson
PG: Collison / Lawson / Farmer / I. Cousins

A lot of those players can play multiple positions. Really deep team at every spot but it would be nice if there is more genuine quality depth rather than solid depth.
