Welcome Hassan Whiteside!

Wow....never in a million years did I think we would get Cousins AND Whiteside....AWESOME draft!

I was hoping Hassan Whiteside would be around at #33. He's a very solid pick by GP. Another very big player to match up against the Gasol's, Bynum's, and all the other long dudes in the WC. If you watched any of Whiteside's games at Marshall Univ. you could see tremendous potential - not unlike an Andrew Bynum who was I believe was #30 pick by LA a few years back. Way to go Geoff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

bynum was a lotto pick

Wow. Id say hes Dalembert insurance. We can let Dalmebert walk next year, get a ton of capspace, and insert Whiteside into Dalemberts old spot in the lineup. WOW, this is truely remarkable...

This guy could be a great weak-side shot blocker. I'd really like to see him and Cousins play together, then put Greene at the 3 and you could have some major defensive potential down the line if they all keep their heads on straight. Great, great pick in the second round because you have so little to lose.

Heavily paraphrased Whiteside radio interview:

Says it was nerve wracking waiting, not knowing where he was going, But the Kings were one of the teams he preferred

Says he's a 4 who likes to block shots

Says he can bring length to the team, open up the lanes for the guards

Says he put his name out there when the coaching staff left thought he was ready regardless of what people said

Says he just started playing bbal with his brothers when he was a kid

Sacramento has nice weather, good people, seems like a nice place

When the coach staff left, it made it easier to make the decision to enter the draft

Will be in town tomorrow

More of a weakside shot blocker, just because it is easier to stay out of foul trouble, but can also block shots face up.

Was really looking forward to coming to the Kings (when asked about his purple attire)

The basketball gods are with us today!!!!!

We got Cousins and Whiteside, the other big that I really liked a lot.

We now go into next season knowing we no longer will be bullied by the lakers' length.

I believe that he really likes the Kings. He got to workout twice so for a shy kid like Whiteside, I think it helps his comfort level. Wow, this is turning into a great draft for us. I can't believe we got my top 2 players that I really wanted us to have.

OMG, I know he is raw...but he is going to be awesome soon.

People thought he was going to be a lottery pick at some point. Can't wait to see him develop!

I'm sure he's not disappointed about coming to the Kings .. he's disappointed he slipped all the way down to 33 ....
Yeah, I think it was a long wait and that's what got him down. I'm sure the Kings would like to sign him, but he doesn't get a guranteed contract or amount like the first rounders. I think he thought he would go in the first round. Most of us did, right? Had to be a little rough sitting there.

Maybe with a little time to think, he'll perk up. I believe the Kings were interested, but hadn't expected him to fall to them. When he gets here and knows he's wanted, that should make him much happier. (Just not as rich as he might have hoped.)

And you forgot: Westphal said that they though Whiteside would be a lottery pick. At the very lowest they thought he would be a mid first rounder. There was talk in the Kings org about trading to get a mid first rounder to get the guy. They were shocked out of their minds that he was there in round 2. He think teams missed on him because they view him as a center who isn't strong enough to maintain position, but instead he's a forward who can run, shoot, and defend the weak side. This pick could be the biggest steal the Kings ever had.

Very interesting how they view him as a 4 with his skillset...
Regardless this kid will probably be allowed to sit on the bench and develop at his own pace this year which is great for him even if he doesn't know it yet. Overall our frontcourt will have a lot of competition again... I would like to see if they drafted him as a future Center or as a future PF..

Welcome to Sacramento, Hassan! I honestly have no clue what all of those teams that didn't draft you were thinking, but clearly we want you here and we're happy you fell to us.

It may be a couple of years yet, but you should keep a list of every team that passed on you so that when we play them you can come out with some extra fire and destroy them. Or, if that's too hard, keep a list of every team that didn't pass on you, so you know which nights you can crank it down to only 100% effort. Except for the Lakers. They didn't have any picks in those slots, but you have to go full bore against them. Maybe that "not-so-motivated" list is real short. No matter. Welcome to Sac!
