Welcome! I can't believe you were here!
I must say he looked very disappointed. You really can't blame him though.
bynum was a lotto pickI was hoping Hassan Whiteside would be around at #33. He's a very solid pick by GP. Another very big player to match up against the Gasol's, Bynum's, and all the other long dudes in the WC. If you watched any of Whiteside's games at Marshall Univ. you could see tremendous potential - not unlike an Andrew Bynum who was I believe was #30 pick by LA a few years back. Way to go Geoff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Petrie-ism on Cousins and Whiteside "Sometimes it's the long and short of it. Tonight it's the long and long of it."
If the Kings send him to the D-League he has to have a contract and a roster spot. If we don't sign him, then he could go there as a free agent.Hassan will eat up the Developmental League. Brockman will be on the roster.
Heavily paraphrased Whiteside radio interview:
Says it was nerve wracking waiting, not knowing where he was going, But the Kings were one of the teams he preferred
Says he's a 4 who likes to block shots
Says he can bring length to the team, open up the lanes for the guards
Says he put his name out there when the coaching staff left thought he was ready regardless of what people said
Says he just started playing bbal with his brothers when he was a kid
Sacramento has nice weather, good people, seems like a nice place
When the coach staff left, it made it easier to make the decision to enter the draft
Will be in town tomorrow
More of a weakside shot blocker, just because it is easier to stay out of foul trouble, but can also block shots face up.
Was really looking forward to coming to the Kings (when asked about his purple attire)
Yeah, I think it was a long wait and that's what got him down. I'm sure the Kings would like to sign him, but he doesn't get a guranteed contract or amount like the first rounders. I think he thought he would go in the first round. Most of us did, right? Had to be a little rough sitting there.I'm sure he's not disappointed about coming to the Kings .. he's disappointed he slipped all the way down to 33 ....

And you forgot: Westphal said that they though Whiteside would be a lottery pick. At the very lowest they thought he would be a mid first rounder. There was talk in the Kings org about trading to get a mid first rounder to get the guy. They were shocked out of their minds that he was there in round 2. He think teams missed on him because they view him as a center who isn't strong enough to maintain position, but instead he's a forward who can run, shoot, and defend the weak side. This pick could be the biggest steal the Kings ever had.
