We just signed Dahntay Jones. What can you tell me about him?

Liked his game while he was with us -- ultra athletic defender/slasher -- and he did a nice job as a defensive roleplayer for the Nuggets. Not sure about trhrowing a 4 year deal at him though. Guess he actually scored big down at the NBDL level though, so maybe he's got more potential than most of those defesnive swingmen types.

he played well for the nuggets... im surprised that he didnt go to a contender.....

I doubt any contender was willing to drop a 4yr deal on him. When you are at Dahntayt's level and someone offers you 4 yrs $11mil guaranteed, you'd go play for Bangladesh if that's what it took.

He looked a lot more comfortable in Denver than he did with the Kings and has noticeably improved in his individual overall play. With that said, he still can't shoot a lick! Good defender, strong, and will throw down a highlight reel dunk once and awhile.

His career has had a weird trajectory to it--he was overdrafted by Jerry West back when he was with the Grizz, but was listless for the first three years there. By his 4th year with the team he put up career stats (mostly by getting more minutes), but that offseason (he was a free agent) he drew little interest and therefore we were able to get him for training camp and pick him up on the cheap. And the Nuggets take notice the following season and were able to enhance/bring his defense to the forefront by starting him, and he did have his moments there in the playoffs. He's going to be 29 so it took him quite a long time to find his niche in the league (before Denver he drew lukewarm to warm reviews about his defense, but after that...).

Offensively, Jones is such a mixed bag. He's a terrible mid-range shooter and will rarely even take threes, but he's a reasonable finisher and knows how to get himself to the line (he's got a 39' inch vert and a certain cat-like quickness about him), and has shown decent ability to hit from there. He's a decent dunker, but doesn't actively look to do it. But because defenses kept playing off him in Denver, he was forced to take more jumpers than he should, thus really exposing his jumper limitations.

Defensively he's athletic, well conditioned and has the sort of quickness to play lighter wing players well. Always has been more of a contain defender rather than a guy who would try to pry away the ball, and can do a decent job on someone. I don't quite think he has the makeup to be a stopper (lacks a mean streak, doesn't have great bulk), but he can be a pretty good defensive player.

"We" didn't get him. The Pacers got him. Hicks is a Pacers fan.
lol....how did he miss the big golden "P" denoting Hicks as a Pacer fan? That post actually made me lol. I had to re-check the date of the OP.

Not much can be added to what has already been said about Dahntay. He did trip Kobe tho, and while it was a dirty play it sure was funny to see Kobe throw another of his MANY hissy fits.....

Like the others said hes super athletic and a decent defender, but word is out that hes one of the more dirty players in the league...

He had a few nice big dunks and some blocks (which I can't find any film of) that were really impressive. He's not going to do much offensively, but he will give effort and scrappy play.

He checked Chris Paul pretty well in the playoffs for Denver, but Paul was injured so make of it what you will.

Which is actually a good thing if you happen to the fanbase/team that got him.

And is scrappy dirty?
