Watch Board of Supervisors Meeting - LIVE!!!!

#31
Here's a lady talking about how we the term quality of life has been being thrown around. She says to some that may mean the kings or concerts or monster truck rally's.

She said let's talk about other quality of life things. Like not bringing in all the cars and congestion that kings games and concerts make. Which makes the air worse, the overflow parking that would spread into downtown *which would never happen* THere is plenty of parking currently at arco*, oh and ...yes you guessed it the NOISE!!!

Yes this lady was old.

- Another woman brought her two children to voice her opinion to not have it on the ballot because the new sales tax would take away a gallon of milk from her children. Said her husband works three jobs and they live in Tahoe Park. (I'm wondering why she isn't working and didn't her trip to the meeting take money out of her pocket to get that gallon of milk?)
Okay, this one really cracks me up - even though some people will try to buy into it.

I really feel sorry for some of these people. She does realize how many cars are in downtown Sacramento every single day and how much space state workers take up in parking, right?

It is probably such a good thing I live too far away to attend these meetings...

But NO ONE there is saying what you're saying...that's the problem.
Yes they are. that was the first thing Dave Jones said. Listen, i work in Affordable Housing. Most of those people getting up there are have been talking about the same stuff for years. but i was hoping to hear a different song, I guess not.

1. This has become a BLANK and moan session for everyone in the County to vent. (Did anyone see that "How can I afford milk for my children?" story???)

I was on the phone with my girlfriend telling her about this. She asked me, "Why is her husband working three jobs and yet she can be in downtown arguing this? Shouldn't she be working and get affordable child care? Didn't her trip to downtown cost her that gallon of milk?"

"Sales tax is regressive and hurts the poor the worst." - Some woman

6. The girl to the left of the podium is hot.

That's too funny.

At least Oak Park was well represented.

Some guy is now arguing that this will suck resources away from poor areas. Totally ignorant on the effects of the tax and where the funds will go.

You'll be happy to know VF21 that someone just said sales tax is regressive and hits the poor the worst. I want to punch someone.
I don't know how they can say that with a straight face.

The poor have little to no disposable income. Their money goes for the basics. Their rent isn't going to change because of a .25% sales tax increase. Their food costs won't increase unless they're dining out and the 25 cents in additional tax on a $100 tab isn't going to do much. If anything, the sales tax increase will hit the people who make those high ticket purchases because... they're spending the most money. I know - shocking, but true.

Is it really that difficult a concept to grasp?

I like how the woman called out a guys name and they said "he just left". She let out a huff and said, "well, that's too bad".

You know she wanted to say "tough *&^%".

Roger Dickerson says that he and his peers have received 100's of e mails 10 to 1 IN FAVOR of putting this on the ballot.

THAT IS GREAT NEWS!!!
It is great news, but he said 8 or 9 or 10 to 1....out of HIS emails.

But I'm with you. :)

edit: also, think about who is more likely to have access to email...

Awesome, and Collin (D-5), notoriously against past incarnations of the proposal, said she will support it going for vote. Glad that it seemed the board heard through the unfounded complaints and will leave it to the CITIZENS, who looked grossly uninformed as of today, to decide.

They need to hear more, they need to learn more, and they need to vote.
