Was the game worth watching? No spoilers inside

I'd like to try something here. Some of us like watching the Kings get blown out by 30pts. others... not so much. I'd love to see a thread like this for the fans that would rather see the "good" games.

What's a good game?

1. Games the Kings win
2. Games where the Kings were competitive. i.e., they may lose by 10, but they were in it
3. Games something spectacular happened. e.g., Cousins bites PW's ear off

What's a bad game?

1. Games where the Kings were not competitive. e.g., blowouts, those games they're 8-12 behind the entire game
---

If people watch a game and feel like providing Kings fans that haven't seen the game with some extra info without spoiling the game, I propose making a post like this:

12/3/10 - vs. Lakers
Watch it

or

12/3/10 - vs. Lakers
Skip it

Please avoid making specific references to the game.

When I'm unable to see a game live, I occasionally have my wife check the score, then let me know if it's worth watching. In this case, usually the criteria is, "Are they within 10pts?"

I'm sure some "true" fans will bristle at the thought of this, but I'm not interested in that conversation. Some day I'm going to die and I watch sports for enjoyment, not masochism.

So let me get this straight -- you record every game, don't watch them when they are actually on, then attempt to avoid the boxcores/recaps...except that the results in those boxscores and recaps are your criteria for actually goingback to watch the game?? Sort of eliminates the entire dramatic tension that defines sport does it not?

Ever considered the time tested method of actually watching the game while its being played, and if things get too ugly turning it off? Save a lot of flailing about. If we fall down 18-20 in the latter half of the third quarter or later you have my permission to bail.

I watch every game from beginning to end, unless something comes up. Never have turned a Kings game off early. Ever.

How about flying to enemy territory to attend the game in person and represent our city and team in a hostile enviorment?

Yeah, that's what I'll be doing tonight along with my brother Jesse. Then on Monday we'll have reenforcement with about 20 other Kings fans to take on the Clipper Nation. I'm going to drive Clipper Darrell crazy again like this past February. Go Kings!

I don't think this is such a bad idea in theory, I know many fans have different ways of enjoying games. But somehow I don't expect you'll find anybody willing to do this consistently for every game. You'd probably have more success sticking with asking your wife. Besides, the thread names themselves will often give away how the game is going.

Personally, I (used to, before Dish dropped CSNCA) record the games and fast forward through them. If it was a good game and I have time, I'll watch everything. When it starts getting out of hand, I start fast forwarding. If I see the score get close, I'll rewind a bit to see how it got close and start watching normally again, otherwise, I end up fast forwarding through the end. I actually do this because I don't have time to watch every game all the way through, not so much because I can't stomach big losses, but that might be a better option for you than hoping for someone to start a thread with the proper info.

There must be SOMETHING to watch. In the 80s, even if it was a loss, you could see how the failed draft pick was working out. You might even see a Jim Les lead futile fourth quarter comeback. In the 90s it was rooks and Richmond. In recent years it was young guys, exciting ones you hoped. But right now there is nothing. There is Cousins, but this team doesn't really use him much. The offense is just painful to watch. The defensive effort is futile because the team's offense leads to nothing. It's like watching the Niners out there.

Even if you lose from lack of talent(80s-90s), you'd like to see a sensible game out there. Right now every player is Duane Causewell dumb, and I would never watch an all-Causewell team, and even more troubling is that their talent level is above this sort of play.

Bravo sir, give em' hell!!!

As one of the many who have DishNetwork and am currently suffering extreme Kings game withdrawals, my answer would have to be that I would love to be able to see the game - good, bad, ugly, etc. As Joanie Mitchell once sang, "You don't know what you've got 'til it's gone."

Just my two cents...

I wish I could join you guys! Alas, I have stupid work..

Living in Lakerland, nothing gives me more pleasure than going to a sports bar and hollering my *** off, rooting for whoever is playing the fLakers. I havent gotten beaten up yet! (I flatter myself and say this is because I am a mean looking, broad shouldered, 6'2... But its probably because those filthy Lakers always win).

To the OP: You make your wife check scores before you watch? That my friend, is funny as hell. I cant really make fun though, if it pains you that much to see the pathetic flailings of our current teams, you're just as diehard as the rest of us!

Personally, I prefer the "watch the game until I am completely disgusted with how it is playing out" method, but to each their own!

I don't record any game. I have league pass broadband. I watch them live when I have nothing better to do. I watch them after the fact when I don't. Occasionally I'll have my wife check the score ahead of time and I watch the game based on whether or not the game ended up somewhat close. Since she didn't see the game, she doesn't know if it was a "good" game, but if we lose by >10, I presume it to be not that enjoyable to watch.

I don't get your point about the boxscores.

As for "dramatic tension", all I know is that I'm going to see a competitive game. FWIW, when I do do this, we lose more often than we win.

!@#$ it. It was just a suggestion. My method was working fine for me, so I'll just keep doing it.

I actually wish there was something similar for all NBA games. Imagine the Lakers Vs. Raptors game(Kobe's 81) having some "must watch" designation in League Pass. You don't know why, you just know it was flagged as a "good game". In 5 years, something like this will exist.

Some people find value in watching the Kings get blown out. I'd rather play drums.

Many nights I work late and am not able to watch the game live. I do record them all though, however it really sucks trying to fight falling asleep while watching a DVR blowout. If I knew it was a horrible game I could have watched a movie or done something else before bed. IMO I would like a heads up about the competitiveness of the game.

I get your point, preety cool idea if you don't catch it live.

I watch the bad ones when I can aswell even when I somehow hear the result, but the 'blowout game - don't watch' thing you said would be cool and i'd prolly use it when I can't catch a game live and skip some games if I don't have alot of time on my hands.... think you're on to something here :D

I think the button you're looking for is called "fast forward". ;)

I watch them all, win or lose. I do put them to DVR then start about 1/2 hour in so I can fast forward commercials and sometimes the halftime.

Cool, thanks :D was gonna watch it now but i'll pass thanks to u guys as theres football on right now(real football, not american copy-cat football :D)

Regardless of the outcome. It was probably one of the best played games of the year. Its a shame it ended in a loss.

I do exacly the same thing. People are different. Fans are different. We all have different needs. We all like the Kings. The idea that there is a "correct" reason for watching a game is ridiculous. In the end, in a lousy year, you have to find a way that is enjoyable to YOU - not anyone else.
