Was it ARCO or Talent ?

I don't intend to discount the local kings fans passion at the games. But this season raises a question whether it was ARCO or was it the high powered offense that could put up 103 ppg at home over the last 6-7 yrs . Does the arena matter when don't have a legit team , see the spurs for instance . They are very boring crowd , but it is the team that wins about 35-37 home game every year .

Talent and having guys we really cared about. This city loved those guys, on an almost personal level.

talent and the fans. How are we supposed to cheer for a bunch of boring guys who don't play defense or shoot or pass or block or rebound or care???

It was Bibby, Christie, Peja, Webber and Vlade/Brad with Bobby coming off the bench. That was a recipe for success and we should consider ourselves very lucky to have seen them in action. Teams like that don't come down the pike every day...

They made it impossible NOT to cheer your lungs out, and the crowd made it impossible for the Kings not to put it together night after night. It was a symbiotic relationship made in basketball heaven.

A fan would never ask a question like that

well, what I mean is this:

How are we supposed to get excited for a team that doesn't do anything well or care? Players can feed off the energy of the crowd, but when the crowd doesn't give any energy because it seems like the players don't care then they don't get excited. "Cheer for" was the wrong choice of words. No matter what I'm always going to cheer for them. But if I go to a game, and pay hard earned money, and they get blown out by the worst team in the western conference and they just seem lazy on the court how am I supposed to be excited? I didn't go to this game, but I have family who did. They were part of the crowd, and if the players had been doing stuff like putting out 100% effort then they'd be excited but I bet they weren't.

How long have you been a Kings fan?

There are BASIC problems with this group of players and the coaching staff. They know it; you can tell they know it. Does that mean you quit going to the games because you won't be excited? That's up to you.

As for me, I still get the same tingling walking into Arco today that I got the very first time over 20 years ago. I guess it's a different philosophy but I will always cheer my team, even when they aren't doing well. The Kings may not be winning right now, but that doesn't mean I'm going to quit getting excited about watching them play. There are always things to find to cheer about, if you really want to.

It's a mindset. If you're going to pay that much money, you can either decide ahead of time to enjoy yourself or you can pretty much say you won't have a good time unless the team wins. There is no one right or wrong approach but I know, over the years, I've remained a Kings fan even when almost everyone around me thought I was nuts. I didn't stop finding things to cheer about back then and I certainly won't now.

Good post VF. I have aways had the same feeling when I go to Staples, or back in the day, the Forum. Even last year..in the midst of finishing the year 2-19 (when I went to the Houston game in April) I was excited to go to the game. I was at the game with my sister and her comment to me was.."This is just like Disneyland to you, isn't it?" :)
Win or lose..I love my team. :D

Doesn't mean I wouldn't go to a game, but the crowd can't do what they did back a few years ago if the players don't get the fans excited and such. There's a reason the fans looked bored... because 1. the team has problems and 2. the only player i saw putting out 100% effort was ronnie price and maybe garcia. To get a crowd excited you have to put out the effort price was, otherwise you're not going to get the fans out of the seats. The origonal question was "was it arco or was it talent" and this is my answer to the question. I don't appreciate people saying I'm not a fan.

I don't remember anyone saying you are not a fan. The question was, "how long have you been a Kings fan?"

I love just driving by and seeing Arco and thinking of the games I've been to and knowing that's where my team plays! :D

I did NOT say you're not a fan.

If you are a more recent fan, then you can't possibly understand what some of us are talking about when we talk about the days when the team clearly sucked and we cheered our hearts out anyway.

If some of the players look as though they're not putting forth 100% effort, then don't you ask yourself why? These guys have worked so incredibly hard to even get to the NBA that it boggles the mind they would simply quit trying. It's not in their DNAs.

When you make a comment like "How are we supposed to get excited for a team that doesn't do anything well or care?" then I think it's perfectly in line with that question for me to ask how long you've been a Kings fan.

The fans cheered like crazy in the 1980's and early 1990's because they were unknowledgeable fans who were simply happy to have a team and who had no expectations whatsoever. The cheering was fun, but it was mindless.

Now the honeymoon is over and the bar is set much higher than it was in the 1980's. Plus, this is the first time I can recall having a team that is underachieving. I am happy to now hear the boos. Some may be of the opinion that it means we have lost class. I don't think so. I think it means that we now recognize good and bad basketball, and we now will not tolerate a lack of effort. For the most part this season, our effort has been abominable.

The fans were into it even before we had christie and some of the other guys and when we weren't contenders but VERY fun to watch.... But for the other years that followed(our best years) it was just the fact that the fans knew we had something and that something could lead to a championship in the next couple years... Right now the fans feel we have no championship aspirations in the next few years so they have nothing much to cheer for besides the fact that they are watching their favorite team(good team or bad team).... The cheers can come in buches now(we play ebergetic and fun it'll be there... We play lasadaisical and the fans won't cheer)... Thus leading to my answer of talent and chemistry(a mix of both) is what made arco ROAR!

when I said I don't appreciate people saying I'm not a fan I meant I don't appreciate piksi saying I'm not a fan. I should've been more clear, my bad.

Anyways, IF I were going to the game I would be screaming my lungs out every time the team even made a layup or got a rebound, but I don't get to go to many games. But when you have a crowd that seems dead you've gotta do something to make them jump out their seats, and this team isn't. Anyways, about how long I've been a fan: I'm a teenager so yeah... just when I was starting to get older we got CWebb, so I'm used to the players giving 100% out on the court.

One last time: I don't know if they're not putting out 100% effort or what, but it doesn't seem like most of them are.

Another thing: There are clearly problems with this team, a lack of an inside presence, lack of a bench, lack of shotblockers, lack of rebounders, lack of great passers, lack of lockdown defenders, lack of athleticism, too many things to count. We don't have an identity anymore, we don't have a superstar who demands a double team that makes things happen and gets teammates open. This is clearly on petrie, or as I like to say: this team has been petriefied.

The more recent fans may be just as unknowledgeable, but the honeymoon has ended and the bar is set much higher than it was in the 1980's. Plus, this is the first time I can recall having a team that is underachieving. I am happy to now hear the boos. Some may be of the opinion that it means we have lost class. I don't think so. I'll accept a lot of that, but I know a lot of people who were long-time basketball fans when the franchise moved here, so I don't think "unknowledgeable" necessarily fits. I'll agree with the fact we were so happy to have a team here we were more willing to overlook certain things...

I am in full agreement, however, with your comment about the team being underachieving. While I firmly believe part of the basic problem is structural, I have night after night seen lapses that are simply unacceptable for players of their caliber. The lack of focus and mental errors are the things that drive me crazy. I mean it's 48 minutes. Could you please manage to at least look like you're paying attention???

;)

The fans cheered when we were losing in the 1980's because we knew the team had no talent, yet they played with effort. We basically had a whole team of Brian Skinners, Francisco Garcias, and Ronnie Prices...not much talent there, but they play like they actually want to win. Can't say the same of Bibby, Miller, or Peja. This team has more talent and all five of the starters (including Bonzi) are veteran players. Miller and Peja have made multiple trips to the All Star Game. Adelman has won over 700 games. They have more talent than they had back then. There is no excuse for the team to get blown out at home by the worst team in the league (Blazers). The effort isn't there, and that's why the fans are booing and leaving early, including me.

It's almost impossible to cheer for a team that doesn't put in effort. I can cheer for a team without dunking in someones face, i can cheer for a team that just cant play good defense, i can cheer for a team that cant shoot, i can cheer for a team that's losing, but I CANT cheer for a team that goes out there and doesn't give a s%*t about the damn game OR giving their fans their moneys worth. Many people's days can go up or down depending on a loss and many people really love watching the Kings. But games like tonight, where they LITERALLY just walked up and down the court, showed ZERO emotion, and just kinda... let everyone go, if the shot went in... eh... who cares if it didnt... eh... who cares... I CAN NOT cheer for a team like that. If you want to call me a non-Kings fan for not being able to cheer for a team that doesn't put in ANY effort then fine, but until I see some damn HEART out there I can't put forth my time and effort to them. You know when was the last time someone hit a nice shot or got a nice steal and you saw the BENCH show some emotion? During warmups nobody is smiling, nobody is laughing. On the bench everytime someone makes a big play they just kinda... sit there... no cheering no pats on the back... During a free throw some guys have to GO to each player and give them five instead of the players coming tothem. It's little things like that that really pee me off. How bout going up to Cisco during a game and saying, "Hey you shouldn't really try that shot take it to the hole or pass it. But hang in there" or even just a "nice shot" Show some damn UNITY. The ONLY people I see out there with ANY heart are Reef, Corliss, Price, Cisco, Bonzi, Skinner and Hart. Brad, Bibby, Peja, KT, K-Mart show absolutely NO PRIDE. And they unfortunately are some of our best players and starters. Show me effort, and I'll show some pride in the Kings, and they'll show up as W's on the scoreboard. (BTW I am going to the Clippers vs. Kings game tomorrow. And there is no doubt I'll cheer for them as long as they put the effort in. I don't care if Rick Adelman puts some shorts on and goes out there and gets crossed over all day, as long as I see effort, they'll see me cheering)

This thread raises an interesting question.

The answer is ARCO. No doubt about it. I mean, its no coincidence that the walls are literally falling in on the building and the walls of the team are falling in as well.
