Friday the 13th
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
On April 13 2000 Kings beat Warriors @ ARCO in a fierce defensive battle 130-107 to improve to 44-34 for the season. Kings won every quarter, shot 58% and had 32 assists. Adelman played the whole roster and every player scored. Webber lead the Kings with 22/7/5/3/3, Vlade had 15/11/2, Anderson had 13/5/3/2, Corliss had 11/2/3. Bench mob scored 61 pts lead by Pedja's 13/3/5, Delk had 12, Corbin had 10/4/4.
Using a pair of towels to form a makeshift pillow, Sacramento Kings forward Chris Webber got comfortable in front of his bench as his team cruised to a 130-107 rout of the Golden State Warriors. Webber had 22 points on 7-of-10 shooting, grabbed seven rebounds and handed out five assists as the Kings used a second-quarter run to put his former team away early, allowing the 6-10 forward to lay out for most the final period. Vlade Divac had 15 points and 11 rebounds for Sacramento (44-34), which moved one game ahead of idle Seattle for seventh place in the Western Conference, improving their chances of avoiding the league-leading Los Angeles Lakers in the opening round of the playoffs. The Kings visit the Lakers at the Staples Center on Friday.
"That's a lot better than the last three games," Kings coach Rick Adelman said. "We really needed to get a win. Just talking to the team about Golden State, they're very short-handed and you know that no matter how they were going to play, they were gonna play. I'm just pleased to get the win with those last four to go, which are all going to be tough games."
"Anytime your main guys can get a good rest this late in the season it is good," Corbin said. "I think we are going into the playoffs feeling good about what we are doing."
Jason Caffey scored 11 points and Bill Curley added a season-high 10 off the bench for Golden State, which shot 42 percent (39-of-93) and committed 16 turnovers. (there were "Tony Delk" before Tony Delk)
------------------------------------------------------------------
After putting up great resistance against the Spurs - Kings got the much needed lin and their record is 32-46 at the moment which is tied for the 7 least amount of wins in tha NBA right now. With 4 games left and 3 of them being at home - Kings are looking to finish "strong" which might require to rest more guys of to "rest" the coach for a while. 32-50 is the record that we are looking for in a hope that it ends up being the 5th worst in the NBA which gives us about 1/3 chance for the on of the top 3picks if my math is correct.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
While surfing internet today - I coincidentally discovered that there are many people who are fascinated with the genius of Bill Walton. So since the entertainment value of the remainder of this season is very low, I figure - I just share some famous "say what ?" Bill Walton moments.
Whenever the refs aren't up to Bill's standards: “Why even have a rulebook?”
On Kobe's offseason weight training: "The added muscle and bulk from pushing that steel and the natural maturation process now enables this grandmaster to regularly accomplish the unimaginable without dragging around excessive bulk and baggage. Most top players get to the point where they truly believe that anything is possible. Most are also governed by gravity, the laws of physics and self-regulating mental control mechanisms. Kobe has left all these behind. The extra strength and stamina have made him a superior 3-point shooter, a most dominant defender and arguably the game's top rebounder."
"Mick Jagger is in better shape than far too many NBA players. It's up in the air whether the same can be said of Keith Richards."
Exchange between he and Tom Hammond: “John Stockton is one of the true marvels, not just of basketball, or in America, but in the history of Western Civilization!” Tom: “Wow, that’s a pretty strong statement. I guess I don’t have a good handle on world history.” Bill: “Well Tom, that’s because you didn’t go to UCLA.”
"Greg Ostertag is one of the top centers on this planet!"
During one of his hilarious game-intros: “Tonight the Spurs look to extend their lead to 3-0 over the Lakers. This time, however, they will have to do it on the Lakers’ home court. Duncan and Shaq have been magnificent for both teams, but so far the edge has gone to San Antonio. However, the real story line that awaits us tonight in Los Angeles is whether or not Kobe Bryant will actually throw a pass!”
On Larry Johnson's lackluster performance in the NBA Finals: "What a pathetic performance by this sad human being. This is a disgrace to the game of basketball and to the NBA. He played like a disgrace tonight. And he deserved it."
More Larry Johnson railing: "Why would the Pacers ever double-team Larry Johnson? He wants to be double-teamed so he can pass. Why is Indiana double-teaming a man who only scores 8 points a game?"
"Its a critical game, the battle for 10th place!"
"You know why the jump ball is great? The fate of the free world, every night is decided by the jump ball." - Bill Walton preceeding a Celtics 76ers ESPN game last season.
In Luke Walton's rookie year he was rumored to be dating Britney Spears, before she was Federlined. So Bill was doing one of his son's games and they addressed it - his comment was:
"I told Luke, you're young, you're rich, and you're living in Beverly Hills. If you're not having the time of your life right now, I have failed you as a father."
I have to admit that if You can look past the insanity, logic, common sense, Laker homerism, annoyance - Bill Walton can be funny in a way.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It does look like all of the Kings except Muss have realized that there is no point of winning games. Muss still doesn't get it. Playing Bibby 39 and SAR 34 minutes in a game that shouldn't be won and wasting those minutes on veterans instead on the kids just causes further irritation all over the place. At least Ron discovered some sort of injury. We will see whether those 9 minutes were the last 9 minutes Brad played this season. Probably not. 4 more and then a long summer in which the little hope that is left - will be tested.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Since the summer will be long - I figured - I make a reading list that should prepare You for the next seasom of Kings basketball.

Another solid performance by Cisco Garcia who is playing better since his minutes increased. What a shocker! Still, his heas needs to go down to the level of his skills and we will have a solid role player for the future. Enery and hustle is always there. Little more brain and more patience and things will e fine. A new coach wouldn't hurt either.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
No more editions of coach's corner. That guy doesn't even deserve to be called that. I think that we have seen more than enough of things that he screwed up over the last 78 games or so. It is a shame that we wasted more time discussing the coach this season than we spend talking about the team, players, games etc. Eric Musselman would need a superior team in talent, athleticism and leadership to be mediocre. It would help if the players were familiar with Microsoft office. Just in case. Who would have thought that DUI would be the least of our worries ?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
It was a close game last night but Kings finally did the right thing and got the lin. Spurs played as much as they needed to. Kids did well again. We couldn't stop Duncan or Finley. We got outrebounded and yet again we did not block a single shot. If it wasn't for 10-19 from downtown - it would have been a blowout.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
AWARD TIME
TDM went to Vaughn. Someone had to win it. Vaughn didn't have a monster game but when a guy who averages 3/1/2 goes for 11/3 that is extremely overachieved performance.
LW-VC award goes to Finley just because it is Finley
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Warriors are next and they have been playing well and they need a win and we don't. The biggest problem will be that neither team defends so we are in a danger of a woss and we have to avoid it as much as we can. It will be a western shoot out and we have to hope that Warriors will catch fire. We really need a lin.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Kids - play them more - moron
Vets - gone fishing
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Muss - kool aid flavor of the night - water
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Sadly enough Warriors have a better team and a better coach and prety much anything else but the fans. They score a lot and get scored on some more. They also have bunch of ex-pacers. JRich is back and he is a Kings-killer. TDM award will go to Ellis, LW-VC to a Kings vet and BD might get a triple double. We need alin and we have to get it done.
