[Trade] Warriors have obvious Jonathan Kuminga trade demand after latest Kings reports

There’s no way the Kings are building a relationship with Kuminga so they can sign him in a couple years. Stiles is back in the he don’t know Jack list for me.

27 is a shaping up to be a bad draft so if they want an unprotected first that year I could live with it.

Kuminga is a swing, he is a flawed player but the risk reward is about right.

It could be though. The problem is the Kings would have to do some serious mind trick magic to convince him to sign for the MLE. The only real concerns are giving up rebuild pieces and signing a contract with a player that appears to be one that approximately two teams deem worth the $$$. If it doesn't work, not even Vivek can escape this fate, it's a rebuild and it's definitely in that long range. Not a short one like might have been.

This is where we keep shooting ourselves in the foot by insisting on getting players back instead of cap space when we do make a trade. It seems like somebody should have been able to look ahead six months ago to see what the free agent market was going to be this summer and also how few teams were going to have cap space. We could have kept our pick by losing a few more games and also had cap space to steal a decent player but instead we've got a bunch of players we don't want who nobody else will trade for unless we also give them draft capital in exchange for taking on our contracts. It's always so frustrating to watch this team stumble around getting nothing done season after season because they never plan their next move out in advance.

The biggest issue is how the leaks have come back. This is going to be an interesting locker room dynamic. Bank on it. The dumpster is there, full of gas, anyone got a match? haha.

Could be sitting on Kuminga and an unprotected top 8 pick from New Orleans next year but no we needed to get smacked in the play-in and get Lavine who literally nobody in the league wanted

Even if he somehow opted out for a 2-3 year extension for more money I doubt it would help much after paying Keon and Keegan.

Depends what teams are willing to offer. 3 years $75 mil is better than 1 year $45 mil. At what point does he become a vet min contract with the current CBA?

It seems like guys who opt out in the final year and do a spread like that tend to do better than guys who opt in and get bought out at the deadline. Once a player gets bought out it sure seems like they get tagged as a buyout guy and become exactly what you say there - riding out the rest of their career on minimum deals.

Yeah, if he were older maybe he would. He's still young enough to get that longer contract after this one if he stays healthy. If this works then maybe it's feasible he opts out and signs back to give the Kings a little more breathing room kind of like Harden has done in the past with the Sixers. As said it's probably not making much if a dent if space is the goal however.

You can offer a multiyear extension that is less annually but more in total.

So if you are Levine, do you risk getting injured on the opt in year/decline in value or do you try to get a longer term deal for less per year, but more overall guaranteed money?

Don't like his contract but if he is healthy he's still a good player as long as we have good defenders around him. The biggest problem was the fit with Monk and DDR and basically dumping the entire defensive load on Keegan.

With this new CBA I think the latter, but it is not going to be for 50% of that deal, more like 75%.

So instead of 1 year at 49 or 3 years at 75, more like 3 years at 120. Maybe he'd agree to a declining deal or all 3 years at 40 though, so both player and team have flexibility if either decide to move on. I think we will see more like this as time goes on and players and GMs accept the reality of the current CBA.
