Vince called out Raptors play to Sonics

Looks like Reggie Evans is on the growing list of those who think Ray Ray has a big mouth.

Did Carter tip Sonics?

FRANK HUGHES; The News Tribune

Vince Carter may have got his wish and escaped the NBA's Canadian franchise, but is there more to Raptor's GM Rob Babcock's decision to pull the trigger than meets the eye?According to Tacoma News Tribune writer Frank Hughes the Carter trade came less than 48 hours after Babcock was interviewed for a story about Carter’s actions against the Seattle SuperSonics Nov. 19.

Three Sonics players have alleged that Carter intentionally tipped off a play during the final minute of the Raptors’ 101-94 loss to the Sonics in Toronto.

With 29 seconds remaining in that game and the Sonics leading 97-90, the Raptors called a timeout. After returning to the court, Carter lined up along the edge of the key. He was facing the Sonics’ bench with his hands on his knees.

According to a member of the Sonics, before the play began, Carter said directly to the Seattle bench, “It’s a flare. It’s a flare.” Two other members of the Sonics confirmed that Carter told the Sonics bench that the Raptors were running the flare play.

Inbounding the ball above the Sonics bench, the Raptors then immediately ran a flare play for Carter.

According to one member of the Sonics, the bench reacted immediately to what Carter said, with Sonics players saying, “Did you hear that? Did you see that? That’s (expletive) up.”

Another member of the Sonics said he discussed the play with a coach after the game, and the coach said, “If you ever do that, I’ll run you out of the league.”

[Ray] Allen, who was guarding Carter, said: “I didn’t hear it, but that’s what those other guys were saying (after the game), Reggie (Evans) and those other guys. But all I said was, ‘Why would he do that?’ I don’t know why he would do that.”

According to Hughes, when asked to detail the incident Evans chose not to discuss specifics.

“I don’t want to get involved in that stuff, man,” Evans said. “That stuff is deep. I ain’t scared of Vince or nothing like that, but that is between him and his conscience. I ain’t saying it did happen or it didn’t happen. I’ll leave that for Ray. I’ll let Ray do all that type of talking, man.”

“For real. I’ll let Ray open his mouth, he is the one ... who got into it with Kobe (Bryant), so I will just leave that alone. I don’t want to get into no beef with nobody.”

Carter, reached through Raptors spokesman Jim LaBumbard, responded, “I’m not going to comment on something as ridiculous as that.”

Babcock was reached on Wednesday evening and said: “I hadn’t heard that. I would hope that would not be the case, but I am not aware of that. If he did do that, I would be quite upset with that. But I don’t know anything about that. It is nothing I heard.”

“That’s the type of thing that, if I was aware of it, we would deal with it internally, and we certainly would deal
with it. But I am not aware of that.”

“If something comes up to me like that, and it is solid, and it is obvious that it did happen, we would take care of it internally.”

What, no comment about Carter tipping his team's plays to the other team, Gargamel? That sort of thing not newsworthy to you?

I swear before God, Laker fans try me like none other; only a Laker fan/Kobe jocker would read that particular article and not only key on the part about Ray Allen talking trash, but ask other people to take notice of it above the rest of the article... :|

LMFAO. Ahhhh...... Glad I wasn't drinking when I read that.

Plus, not saying I believe that Carter did it. Just putting it out there for parousal. I'd like someone who claimed to hear it actually admit to it to a reporter. We do know from the article, however, that Ray has a habit of irritating his own teammates with his lack of restraint. I guess that's where I was going. Evans just happened to put Kobe's name in there.

“I don’t want to get involved in that stuff, man,” Evans said. “That stuff is deep. I ain’t scared of Vince or nothing like that, but that is between him and his conscience...

That sounds like Evans is indicating more that Carter DID do it, but he doesn't want to be the one annoucing. If he did do it, that's just messed up beyond words.

In all honesty, if he DID do it, someone somewhere has it on tape and it will come to light.

Just another reason I don't like Vince Carter. Who cares about who made it public. If Carter did it, SHAME on him!!!

I agree with you on Carter, but this is just another reason I don't like Ray Allen.

...still laughing at Slim's post. Classic.

You must be talking about some other Reggie Evans; I see most of the Sonics games (whenever there isn't a scheduling conflict with the Kings), and I listen to coverage about the Sonics every day on KJR. I don't hear any indication that Ray Allen is alienating himself from his players, nor do I see any indication in that article to support your utter stretch of a claim.

And, while you may have found my post funny, I assure you that there was nothing funny in my intent. In fact, the point of my post is simple: you posted an article in which Carter is alleged to have broken what should be a cardinal rule in all professional sports, and you used some ticky-tack sound bite within said article to take a shot at Ray Allen's supposed "trash talk." I mean, really, who gives a ****?

With the exception of Evans' comment where he clearly sounded miffed that Allen would try to attach his name to a potential media controversy.

That much I understood. That's what I found funny about it. I've apparently been on your S-list since the Barkley thread because, from what I can gather, you were angry that I disagreed with his opinion and/or was blatant in pointing out how little I respected him.

Like I indicated before, I'm not ready to fly off the handle over this claim until someone actually fesses up. I chose to post the article to get other POVs. But here's the thing, Slim, when you post an article, you can comment on its contents in any way you see fit and that's what I did. I'm sorry if it offended you, but what stuck out to me was that Ray Allen really doesn't know when to shut his mouth and that's something that #8 gets constantly ripped for.

I will now comment on Carter. Here goes. If he did really do that, bad dog! Bad dog! ::swats VC's nose with newspaper:: Just for you, Slim...

Gargamel, if you were on my **** list, I wouldn't even waste my time talking to you. It just annoys me that you would choose to make a big deal out of the most insignificant comment in the entire article.

And, I'll bet dollars to doughnuts that there's more evidence to support the allegation that Carter tipped plays than there is to support the allegation that Reggie Evans has a problem with Ray Allen.

Even if Carter did tip the play, noone would could have known if the Raptors are actually going to do it. I personally would have been confused either way, if they ran the same play or if they didn't. I doubt that Carter really had time to convince the Sonics that it was the play they were REALLY going to do...

"Big deal" no. I just highlighted it. It became a big deal when we decided to argue about it to this extent.

Maybe VC really told them, "I have flair! I have flair!", and then pranced away.

Now that's plausible. Vince Carter will do almost anything for face-time. I see a new television "reality series" on alternative lifestyles of the NBA. No doubt someone will wear some of those metallic Webber-shoes. Dennis Rodman will be brought back for cameo appearances. Yeah, it's coming.

I don't know what the big deal is at all.

He tipped off the people SITTING ON THE BENCH. The man guarding him agreed that he had no idea what the play was. Then they ran the play.

It was show-boating, for sure. But if you are gonna crucify all nba players that showboat, you better a couple more truckloads of crosses. And several additional hills, to boot.

True story:

At the Kings/Raptors game earlier this year at ARCO, a heckler yelled at Carter something like: "Hey Carter, I thought you were supposed to be an All Star?" after Carter did something stupid.

Carter responded by saying: "Naw, I'm just a gangsta" and jogged up the court...

im really sick of this VC drama...BOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRRRIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGG....

its all just so sad and pathetic...hopefully its all over now

I believe it. Why would someone bother yelling that out? I don't get hecklers. I don't want to feel like I'm working when I go to a game.

You're a professional heckler???

It saddens me that some people can overlook an infraction that threatens the integrity of the game simply because it didn't happen to affect the outcome... :|

If I was Carter's team-mate, I wouldn't consider the fact that it didn't effect the out-come. That's a serious breach of trust. His head and heart have not been with that franchise in a long time, which speaks volumes about just who he finds more important, team or self.

maybe he was like watch this i will tell you what play i am going to do and there is nothing you can do to stop me.

Ah, but there is the rub. Watch what play I am going to do, there is nothing you can do to stop me. He wasn't playing 1 on 1, he was playing a team game, with his actions effecting every one of his team mates.
