Video: Kings First Home Game 1999

Ryan

I like turtles
For old time sake, I uploaded highlights of JWill's first regular season home game. This pretty much sums up the dawn of the new Kings era. Ohhhh, memories. We get a few classic flash backs like the old local TV Kings opener and, yes, a "money store" ad.

If anything, go to 3:51

I should know better than to nonchalantly click on your videos. They always stir up so many memories and emotions. I feel sorry for fans who weren't here until after JWill had been replaced by Mike Bibby. The moment when we fans started to realize we just might have something very, very special was so fleeting...and yet it formed the way many of us would forever look upon these days.

Ah, the memories. Thanks, Ryan!!!

So much fun. I love that you can hear the crowd go "oooooo!!!"

Jon Barry with hair. Rick Adelman with dark hair and a smile. Peja looking about 14. Mike Bibby unable to stop Jason Williams. And Jason Wiliams... What can you say about J-Will? Without him, the fuse would not have been lit. Bibby may have been the right move but I'll forever miss that rookie from Florida who had me on my feet in my own living room, cheering and laughing in disbelief.

I didn't follow JWill after he left Sacto and the few games I saw on TV he no longer had the flair. I realize with us he occasionally threw the ball into the 4th row and sometimes missed badly in other ways but do you think something dies in a guy like that when you try to make a better player of him? Team mates and fans get pumped by wild arse plays and the unanswerable question is whether the team in the end lost something when JWill became more normal. He sure put Sacto on the map.

Hubie Brown broke his spirit, but only after Geoff Petrie broke his heart. He might have become a "better" player with the Grizzlies, but the wild abandon of youth was burned out of him. It seemed as though he never had the same love for the game after he was blindsided with the trade to Memphis.

What a kick in the pants!!!!!! I don't watch many of our videos here but this one was great fun. If I wasn't there that night it was the next home game. Jason Williams was fun. Good to see some of these old bamiliar faces and some young ones too like Peja.

As my name reveals, Im a huge Bibby fan. But I did love J-will too. Our team just couldnt do wrong with its lineups in those years :)
