Updated Draft and Draft Rumors

Maybe it's just a way to try to get something more. They want to trade Smith. And they don't have many offers on the table...

I would assume he wrote the article this morning and it just got published or something? One thing I have noticed is that articles are usually behind tweets but a few hours if not more.
Could easily be the case, I was just going off the time at the top of the article and the fact that Stein tweeted it out a few min. ago

Only way the Kings draft a player for themselves is if it's Embiid, imo.

Lots of interesting names being tossed out there; Rondo, JSmith, Holiday, Knight, Hensen, Sanders, the German.

One source said that the Kings' focus, for the moment, is Thursday's draft and perhaps swinging a trade involving the No. 8 overall pick. Sources told ESPN.com's Andy Katz on Tuesday that Sacramento has narrowed its potential draft pick trade partners down to Boston, Phoenix and Philadelphia -- three teams that have multiple first-round picks.

Combining that with the rumors from yesterday, it appears we have potential deals on the table with those three teams.

i think they would draft Smart if he is there at 8. I also think they would draft Payton, either at 8, or at a later pick that is involved in the trade for the 8th pick

interesting. Thaddeus Young? Rondo? Bledsoe?

Philly has the 10th pick right? We could still pick up Payton at 10 i bet

Where is that quote from?

So does that mean trading up or trading down with Philly?
Those 3 teams have players we'd like...
Boston- Rondo, Avery Bradley, picks
PHX- Bledsoe or Dragic, Goodwin, picks
Philly - MCW, picks
Maybe we are he team that might get MCW instead of the Lakers ....if Philly takes Exxum, then there has been the talk of moving MCW. If the Lakers take Smart, then we may get MCW......all dependent on what other teams take

It's still so tricky/rare I'm counting out anything with free agents on draft day. So, no Bradley or Bledsoe.

Probably more like 8+salary filler (Terry? Williams)+ Ben? for Rondo.

Or Thompson+8 for Thad Young and 10 (Payton).

I don't think the Philly deal makes sense....I think with the Embiid injury, Parker and Wiggins are off the board and they may take Exxum, deal MCW to Sac for 8 and take Gordon or Randle, then at 10 take Stauskus or Harris for the SG spot.....just a theory

I would rather do this. It's well documented that I'm against throwing in Ben a trade just because. You get your defensive PG, athletic big man and keep your young future SG. If you do the Rondo deal, yes you get a proven vet, but you lose all the other pieces. With no guarantee Rondo signs next year.

I really don't see us moving pick 8 until draft day.

We'll draft whoever is left, and then we'll field offers on who wants him.

All teams are posturing at this point but I think PDA pulls the trigger on this deal if Detroit can't find a better offer. As for the #8 he waits it out as long as he can until he finds the best offer.

Couple points:
1. Not sure 45% is really a high bar for your PF
2. The last couple seasons, he takes over 3 3's a game and shoots in the high 20%
3. He gets to the line about 4 times a game and shoots around 50%

Not saying its a horrible deal but these are big problems when you are paying someone over $13M/year for the next 3 seasons

I'm no Josh Smith expert, but what I'm seeing others say about his game is that one of the problems is that the 3 (where the Pistons played him) really isn't his best position. So if you put him at the 4 instead, wouldn't most of those problems theoretically get better?

This is the quiet before the storm... I suspect the rest of the week will be really interesting. I fully expect us to have at least one new starter by Friday morning.

Alas not so much.

Problems as a 3: not enough lateral quickness, not enough ballhandling, settles for way too many long jumpers, which he sucks at but shoots anyway
Problems as a 4: not enough size/strength, not enough post game, settles for way too many long jumpers, which he sucks at but shoots anyway

If somebody in his youth had just kicked him in the nads every single time he took a 20 foot jumper, he'd be a roleplayer, but a far more valuable and dependable piece. He basically settles and shoots his way into inefficiency that doesn't have to be.

After all the rumors and talking by PDA, the Kings fan in me is expecting to take Doug McDermott at 8 and nothing else. With a later quote from PDA saying "We tried really hard to make moves but ultimately there was nothing out there we felt was good, we're very happy to be adding Doug to the Kings family and we'll see what happens the through the summer". That is what I would expect with a Petrie led Kings, hopefully all the rumors are true and we are making moves.
