Don't Make Me Use The Bat
Was not expecting to see this one, so kind of a half assed effort.

Brad ( C ) -- definitely thinner and quicker on offense. And for the same reason may have been in better positon on defense + moved to challenge several slashers. But still did not do much when he got there. Had early foul trouble + continued his careeer-long struggle against the Suns tempo/style.
Mikki ( C ) -- and this apparently was the better of the two early Mikki games. Unable to get his face up jumper to go, and forced a post move for an ugly miss. Was involved in some sloppy/scrappy plays on both ends, but came up with some loose balls to help.
Ron ( D ) -- preseason game, and maybe appropriately one of those where you just had to doubt how much ron really wanted to play tonight. Just very very invisible from the very start, forced a post move and then really went away. Much less active than Hill was back the other way on the other side. Not so much terrible as just a no show.
Kevin ( B+ ) -- Bit of an erratic start, and maybe had a hard time getting a rhythm going as he was in and out of the lineup. Missed his first shot, not much else before being replaced early by Cisco, but aggression after briefly returning to the floor for Ron. Had a big third though (like Peja, seemingly becoming his favorite quarter) and was scoring very easily in his preferred style/tempo, and again ended up with about a point a minute. No other real contributions but the scoring and for the most part a fairly casual feeling easy 17 before handing it opver to Douby.
Bibby ( C+ ) -- came into this oen immediately aggressive, splashed in one, then forced the next. Was not going to one of those silly hot nights like he had last time he saw Phoenix. Continued offensvie aggressiveness, but only sporadic effectiveness (5-13). Gave us a boost on the boards though, where our starters would have been mauled by their starters without a game leading 7 from our our PG.
Kenny ( C ) -- so how much is KT worth if he's not rebounding? Answer: not much. Came in for Brad, and like last year couldn't finish (got blocked by Marion). Got a little more free after the Suns inserted the immortal Sean Marks, but still was not able to contend with the awesome Aussie's unparalleled ferocity on the boards.
Cisco ( C+ ) -- like last year, came in hit a shot, then made a wild turnover and a dumb foul. Thought he was moving beyond this. But kind oif continued through the game. On and off wild play in the 4th, including one time when he hit a really deep three (probably should not have taken it, but made it) then jogged back wiht his back turned doing the I'm cool finger wagging trot while the Suns blew right by him for a fastbreak layup. Like I say, a classic Cisco gave full of giveth and taketh away stuff.
Douby ( A- ) -- came in and splashed in a three, then missed another. Looked natural + aggressive shooting, but no hint of the PG in him in the first half. Was big in the second half however, continuing the hot shooting and making a few semi-PG plays along the way. Generally outplayed Barbossa, who might be his idol as far as tryign to find an NBA niche.
Williams ( B- ) -- still having FT issues (clanged a pair) + did little in his first half minutes. Not going to earn a larger role this way. Not really that effective as a rebounder/shot blocker where we need/expect him to be. But did drop in a couple of solid post moves for scores in the 4th quarter garbagetime. Working on that side of the ball maybe.
Shakur ( D+ ) -- came in and immediately looked/moved far more like a PG than anyone else, but not very effective. Airballed a three int he late going to highlight the shooting problem that holds him back. May have looked the PG part, but struggled, and by the end of the night he as 0-4 for 1pt 1reb 1TO and 0ast. We did not see Greene tonight for comparison but apparently he looked good in the first game, so Shakur may have some catchup to do. Think he may have been the guy trying to guard Marcus Banks in the lategoing too as he lit us up.
Salmons ( B+ ) -- best King in the first half, and as always flouished in the Suns style. Likely why they wanted him a few years back and helped drive up his price to trick us into overpaying. Did little in short minutes after the break to drive this grade down.
Watkins ( C- ) -- did little after coming in in the third, + I thought looked a little intimidated/lost in there against Marion. Thought the kid looked solid in summer league, but performances like this aren't going to let him sneak onto a crowded roster.
Caner-Medley ( C ) -- did little after coming in in the third and playing through much fo the 4th. Ran around, looked vaguely lost and was largely ignored. Finally got a couple of hoops in the final seconds on back to back layups to avoid the goose egg.
Robinson ( B- ) -- Maybe did not do enough overall , but made a big athletic long armed defensive hustle play to contest a fast break layup in the 4th (joined by Cisco from behind) that stuck with you if you saw it (it was a foul, but still).
Parada ( INC ) -- made a nice little drop off pass late, and the passing was really his contribution. No boards, no bocks, a couple of free throws, and then 3 assists. Did not remember that skill from last year, but still just an oddity wihtout the other things.
Byrd (INC) -- got in for the last few minutes. Was fairly active but his big NBA memory might well be coming right in and promptly getting his first NBA shot packed right back in his face.

Reggie ( ) -- played the game about right as far as getting all the camp scrubs minutes, except for Greene who I guess got them the first game. But first cuts are coming up, and this might be the only chance some of these guys get to show anything in a game situation. As far as the hustle/defense etc. etc.? Eh...not so much. We looked fine. But it wasn't really until the scrubs were in late int eh game when we seemed to consistently win battles for loose balls. In the main game we got beat on the boards, and Phoenix obviously dropped their customary 110 on us. So...we looked ok, but nothign eye popping this time out at least.

Kenny (C): Sean Marks would be disappointed that you branded him an "Aussie" instead of the Kiwi he is. Most Aussies would be really mad since they love to hate New Zealand Kiwi's.

I'd like to thank Bricklayer for putting the time and effort into these synopsis each game. I always look forward to reading his analysis and I look forward to reading them again this season. :)

Mikki Moore should be given at least a D grade. Moore has been TERRIBLE so far.

As far as the Kings playing defense, its the same old Kings. There defense iss horrible. I don't care if the Kings were playing the Suns. The Kings player can at least put a hand in their face.

If Douby is going to be the backup point guard, he needs to get more assists. ONE assist in 19 minutes is not getting your team involved in the offense.

If I learned one thing from this game, it is that Cisco and Douby do not pass the ball. I swear the only guys they passed it to was each other. I know that the guys that were in there with them most of the time were scrubs, but at least share the rock once in a while.

Thanks for the grades, Brick. I can't get league pass this year because as far as I know AT&T UVerse doesn't offer it. Which is just terrible (and where I live I can't switch to Comcast).

Well that completely sucks.

Was actually having a hard time believing it, but a quick google search seems to confirm in this thread on their forums: http://utalk.att.com/utalk/board/message?board.id=Uverse_TV_Programming&thread.id=53&page=1

Also offers hope that maybe they will get their crap together and offer it before the season starts though, so maybe everything will work out in the end.

^Yeah, it's seriously unbelievable. Anyone who is even contemplating getting AT&T or UVerse should talk to me first. What a nightmare. The only reason I have it is that I don't have a choice.

I don't have UVerse, but I'm in the same boat. Only cable company available to me (had Dish before the move, loved it, wanted to bring it with me, landlord said no) doesn't have a deal with League Pass. Sucks major donke... well, let's just say I'm not happy. :o

Then again, I also learned this Tuesday that all of the internets are brought into my city via ONE fiber optic cable that tends to get severed in big storms. Fun, fun, fun.

Did you know that if you have a window with clear south/southeast exposure you can actually put your dish INSIDE and still get service? It might be worth checking into... my satellite dealer friend is the one who told me about it.

My apartment's too tiny to have that thing inside. I would have put it on a stand on the balcony if I could have, since I don't use it for anything else, but... after working in property management for nine years, I didn't feel like forcing the issue and pissing my landlord off right off the bat.

kinda like you guys with canada... or them with you... hehehe...

Agree. He has been terrible. Plus, didn't Mike out rebound him in the Suns game?

If our vets are reluctant or rarely pass, how can we expect these guys to do it. I totally understand your point, they should pass, especially since the team wants Douby to be a back-up point guard. And I do hope that they will be more open to the idea of passing first then shoot. It's time to Jell. But I guess we have to remember that this is the second pre-season game, we have to give them a little time.

Thanks Bricklayer for the grades.

Yes, look how short the "training camp" is. They need time and they need to whittle the team down to find out which guys are even going to be on the team. Then we can worry about the guys who are left learning to gel.

I'm not really concerned about the passing of Douby and Cisco. I think of lot of the non-passing has to do with getting used to a new offense and new players in that offense. And, as Theus said, they have to trust each other out there. They have to be able to anticipate where players are before they get get to a spot on the floor. That's going to take some time.

I'm very excited about Douby. Think about Martin in his second year. He barely did anything, just showing glimpses of his athleticism. Give Douby 20+ minutes a game and he will produce, and he will get better and better. I'd like to see him and Cisco and Martin on the floor at the same time, giving us youth, excellent quickness, and good shooting. The problem with this team, as everyone knows, is the frontcourt. It's so glaring you need a visor if you have frontcourt seats.

I am still not convinced that Cisco is going to be anywhere near as good as some people are hoping/predicting. He reminds me a lot of Jason Williams. He is always on the edge of being out of control, and he simply doesn't have a lot of court sense - at least so far. He needs a lot of discipline if he's ever going to really be of value - I hope Reggie can give it to him.

The same attitude that causes Cisco to sometimes be reckless is the same one that will eventually make him a success.

Remember those Gilbert Arenas comparisons draftniks were giving Douby during draft day? Not to jump the gun a bit, but his strong preseason so far seems to show his scoring/shooting potential in the NBA; even has the long wingspan and stealing ability to boot. Obviously what he needs to thrive is consistent playing time, so here's hoping that Quincy keeps up the good work to earn his well-deserved minutes on the court.

As much as I like Cisco's nice combination of all-around game, which is a great asset and frankly, nice complement to Martin's primary scoring game, I do question his recklessness at times--looks like an absolute foil to fellow versatile teammate John Salmons' more paced game. I agree with SacTownKid to an extent that it may lead him success--but only at certain games where he gets a hot streak and it carries through. At other games that sort of unpredictability would absolutely make him look terrible--I remember how streaky he's been last year in his shooting at times--and his tendency to run into brick walls and run before he walks may also be problematic. If Theus lets him play through the game, getting into shooting funks, racking points, rebounds, assists, turnovers, offensive fouls, and such--I don't know whether all those ups-and-downs would end up being more of a detriment to the team rather than an asset. In other words, he WILL look good at times, BAD at others; in fact, with the Salmons vs. Garcia battle, it ultimately depends on what you like. If you believe in potential, athletic lengthy versatility and more risk taking as a means for success, by all means choose Garcia. If you want a solid, fairly bulky versatile all-around guy who either plays solid and sometimes invisible, it's Salmons. Anyway, we'll see how much Cisco has improved at season's start.
