via International_i Just got done having a talk wit my brother @thetyrekeevans. It's done! He's out for a while.
Reke Havoc ain't Reke'n Havoc right now! It's time for a FULL recovery! Were bout to shut @thetyrekeevans down! It's 4 ya own good!

Umm, is this Team Tyreke making executive decisions here, as opposed to Kings management? Because that's not exactly a precedent I like, whether Tyreke is injured or not.

Now, if the Kings have told Tyreke that it's his choice to play through it or not, and he's been sticking it out and he and his family have decided that he should take the team's offer to sit, that's one thing. But if Team Tyreke is telling him to sit without the Kings' blessing, that's kind of out of line.

not suprised being as we are on the road for a week. can't hurt attendance on the road. then we got 2 weeks at home just 5 games vs. weak teams. It might just work. we need to sign somebody I guess or is head going to get the nod. haha see what I did there?

Bittersweet move. This team will do even worse than they are now which is just going to be awful.

Not necessarily. It will be interesting to watch. Evans has been playing way below his capability lately, so he and the team will hopefully profit from giving Tyreke a few games off.

could be like the Martin situation last year where we did better when martin was out and fans started calling for a martin trade then bam it was done.

I'm ok with it. He's really underperforming, and the team is suffering. I doubt the team can play any worse with him out.

Also, I can't imagine that any team can order a player to play when he's in pain. It's up to him, as it should be.

Smart move, our team is so effed up right now, no need to risk further injury.

+1

Reke has been hurting more than helping lately, and his bum foot wasnt going to fix itself.

If he gets any kind of treatment done he'll probably be out until mid Feb though. But Id rather see a healthy Reke in a couple months than see gimpy Reke chuck up brick after brick.

Edit: lame, it didnt quote your nifty handclapping animation

i agree with those of you who are saying this will be bittersweet but i also agree that he needs some rest so he can bounce back and be the tyreke we all know he can be. This is at most a rumour i am guessing but hopefully it comes to fruition.

If the Kings organization wants him to play through it, but Tyreke has decided to give it some rest, saying that's out of line is a bit harsh. Sometimes organizations let their self-interest get in the way of good decision-making. Sometimes players have to look out for themselves, consequences be damned.

Let Reke heal up. Itll also give us the opportunity to assess whatever talent we have outside of Tyreke.

Agreed, this is great news to hear. Plantar fasciitis is not even remotely a joke of an ailment and I wouldn't wish it to be afflicted on any athlete (as someone who's suffered from it before). The bright side is that, like last season when we threw Tyreke straight into the fire and asked him to grow up way sooner than planned and to carry us, this will be Cousins' time to step up. He is now our most talented offensive weapon and when he's not taking dumb shots, he's already shown that he's someone we can run our team offense through. With hope, he realizes how much his team needs him to grow up now and he'll learn to shrug off the adversity that's been bothering him so much lately. And STOP TAKING CHARGES. Please.

Get well soon, Reke. No, seriously, soon. As humanly possible.

If we're going to be making assumptions, then the management is the one more likely to be out of line in this situation. He was obviously gimped with at least two injuries to critical areas of his body and performing way below expectations because of it. If anything, the organization should've realized far, far sooner how much permanent damage they could be doing to him in the future by continuing to let him go out there.

I've gotten the feeling that this decision was delayed to keep him out there to right the ship as much as he could under the pressure of saving not only the season, but the team's existence in Sacramento. Those really are enormous stakes, and that's the only rational reason you would throw out a basketball player on to the court while nursing pretty serious injuries to the part of the body that he relies on the most.

Multiple physicians can't seem to find a reason to keep him out of games. Most of the players in the NBA play through pain, including his problem. I support the move because we're beyond crappy, the season is lost, and his health longterm is very important to this team.

I don't like hearing the news from team Tyreke.

Probably the best thing at this point. I had Plantar fasciitis years ago and when it acted up sometimes I could barely walk. I can't imagine playing basketball like that.

This season is over for all intents and purposes anyways so it’s not like it would matter if they started losing even more without Tyreke. Plus it will give the team a chance to see who steps up in Tyreke's absence.

Grouping Tyreke's situation into a generalization like "most players play through pain" is selling him pretty damn short. "Most players" don't play with injuries that turn them into a shell of their selves, which is what a bad case of plantar fasciitis can do, however temporarily. I know his specialist said it wasn't terrifically bad, but you couple that ailment with his softened ankles and you have an unexplosive player who relies on his explosiveness to achieve success. This team should've made the move to rest him earlier, because he wasn't doing this team any favors playing the way he was.

This works, rest up Reke.

Also good chance for Cousins to get more involved in the offense, he should the main option if not just to get him the experience.

Think the main concern is the news coming from Team Reke instead of the Kings, and I feel that's a valid concern.

But is it? Consider how we are learning of this. This is not some sort of annuncement. This is akin to an insider leak. As far as we know this is the way that such decisions are ALWAYS made with every player. Agreement is reached, then the team makes the official announcement the next day. We just may havbe found out the agreement was reached ahead of time.

except for that the other players who play through this injury dont have the same game as tyreke of penetrating and driving to the basket amongst a crowd.

Hes had the plantar fasciitis in college, and played through some 20 games with it according to a recent interview in the Bee. He reaggravated it early during the season when he sprained his ankle. Resting should do him some good.

Obviously we don't know. If the team was involved in the decision, and this is just a leak, I have no problem with it.

But I'm concerned about the wording: "Were bout to shut @thetyrekeevans down! It's 4 ya own good!"

"WE" are about to shut Tyreke Evans down?

Followed by: "Just got done having a talk wit my brother @thetyrekeevans. It's done! He's out for a while."

The implication is that Team Tyreke made the decision, and called down the order to Tyreke. Now that may not be what Doc Evans wanted to convey, but it seems to be the easiest reading. Anyway, the main concern on my end isn't that the news came from Team Tyreke, it's that the decision may have come from Team Tyreke without the consent of the team and team doctors. I don't know that. I'm just concerned that that may be what happened.

This is good news. There's no point in making Tyreke hobble around and risk more injury in his very young career.

Good news. We aren't playing winning basketball with a hobbled Reke, taking a rest will benefit the team both now and whenever he comes back healthy.

Better to lose Tyreke for a handful of games while he heals up than to lose him for a much longer period because it was too late. At this juncture the team is buried in the Western Conference anyways. I prefer he comes back strong(er). The Kings can win some games in the 2nd half of the season and steadily improve. I want to see Cuz with more touches. This could be real good for the team. Keep the faith. Go Kings!

This. It's fine that we're discussing it and throwing the idea out there, but let's not come to any conclusions about this (not saying anyone did). It may simply be that Petrie and Westphal aren't as into the whole social media thing as much as Tyreke's brothers are. Shocking and offensive, this theory, I know. :p
