Tyreke has a new look! MUST SEE

He looks like he's at 205-210 right now. He looks real lean. Hope that helps with his in game stamina as well.

I've always thought Tyreke was better at a lighter weight, hes was naturally strong enough even as a rookie. A quicker more explosive Tyreke with a hopefully improved jumper should put him back on the map this year. At SF Tyreke is no different than 90% of NBA SF, at gaurd he is a mismatch on most nights.

Tyreke has always had great handles, but now, he looks much quicker as well. That and his great handles makes for a deadly combination. Nice to see him playing above the rim. I also noted that almost every jumpshot save one in the video was a midrange jumpshot. Obviously a highlight reel of nothing but the makes, but none the less, he looked vertical on his shot with little sign of the fade away. It would be nice to see him win the MIP award. Especially if his biggest competition is someone named DeMarcus Cousins.

Agree completely. Couldn't be happier Reke seems to have concentrated on his midrange game rather than long 2's and 3's. More important to me and adds more versatility and options to his game. Of course we have to wait and see if it translates once the ball goes up when the season tips off. I'm also hopeful that being lighter and more explosive helps Reke get more lift on his shot and more separation from the defender. I think a reason for Reke shooting off balance as much as he has is he wasn't get enough separation from the defender and therefor forced to fade to create more separation.

As an aside,I wonder if part of his motivation for losing weight was that it's even less likely he plays SF and it's tougher for Smart to put him there.

the stuff in that video is exactly why Reke has been my favorite player since we drafted him. i love the way he can make defenders look stupid. i know that was just a summer league but we have all seen him destroy legitimate NBA defenders with ease. i just hope that the off-season work and the improvements that this video shows that he has made carries into a successful NBA season and career, and its not just a summer league highlight video giving us false hope

He does look lighter in that video. Going back over some of his rookie year games .. he was lighter then, too. He clearly put on some weight when the foot issues started. Nice to see him back in shape and able to put in a full offseason of training .. no injury setbacks.

This could be a huge year for him.

They rarely update those weights. There are 35 year old guys checking in at 270 that are still lsited at their rookie 235

Yeah, Shaq's weight never changed the entire time he was in the NBA. I remember one time Pollard, who weighed around 275/280, commented that there was no way in hell that Shaq weighed the 300 pounds he was listed at.

ya i know the official weight wont change, but im saying we will probably hear what his weight is at training camp. and we can compare it to his 220 rookie weight

Got this off the wires this morning from Hoopsworld. Not sure how revelant it is considering the source..

"Bill Ingram
I actually had a long talk with Keith Smart about Evans when we were in LV at summer league. The knock on Tyreke is that he can’t knock down the open jumper during games. He rains them down during practice, but is reluctant to shoot during games. Coach wants to see him gain the confidence he needs to shoot when he’s open, and if he can, Smart wants to keep him. If Evans won’t engage, he’ll continue to be the subject of trade talks."

If nothing else, it shows that the Kings are at least considering a possible trade of Evans if he doesn't bring a jumpshot to the table. Not a shocker! Just a confirmation of suspicions.

You've been to summer league. Do you think Coach Smart would have made that kind of comment? It sounds like someone may have stretched the fine points of the conversation just a bit, you know?

Not quite sure what to make of it. Smart is a good PR man, so I would find it strange for him to make any remarks about Tyreke in regards to keeping him or trading him. So I tend to agree with you that it may be someone just exaggerating a wee bit, or imposing his own analysis. He doesn't appear to be quoting Smart. But instead, giving his perception of Smarts remarks.

Thanks for posting... At least he's being honest with us and himself. Hopefully all his hard work will pay off. The question that rears its ugly head of course, is why did he wait till it was a contract year to put in the work? And, will he continue to put in the work if he's handed a big contract? Assuming he's successful. I'm not trying to be negative, but one does have to wonder why he didn't do this last year. I'm willing to buy Petrie's reference to maturity, but I do have a little bit of doubt lingering in the back of my mind.

I wonder how much longer we are going to keep hearing that Tyreke is working on his jumper and his game and just to come out with another average season? I'm hoping for the best from Tyreke...I love his driving game and creativity but let's see if he made the proper improvements in his game. I just hope he doesn't turn out to be a wasted lottery pick for us.

he is only 22 years old....

I understand that, and thats why I mentioned maturity. But Michael Kidd Gilchrist just turned 19 years old, and he's busting his butt trying to become better. There's good, and there's great. And the only thing that separates them, is desire. So we'll see.

I think those question are fair and there will always be those doubts until he puts in consistently good seasons.

I think the fact that he is so young is a valid reason. I am not saying that it is be all. I do think that Tyreke has come into the league, to a crap team with no hope and was given the keys straight away. He had the freedom to do anything he wanted and was good at it. He had a teriffic rookie year and was labeled a face of the franchise not only by the Kings but national media. He probably felt he didn't have to put in as much effort and it was all nice and cruisy. Now he has realised that Cousins is the face of the franchise, Thornton is getting more opportunities that he is and it just might have clicked with him.

He might be realising just how good he can be but he it also might have clicked that in order to reclaim his place in the spot light next to Cousins, he needs to put in the effort. Contract might just be an additional motivation. Part of the "Blueprint" is to sign twoax contract and be multiple type all-star.

yes true. lets hope injuries had something to do with the last 2 seasons and lets hope he goes to star status soon!

Marc Spears on the Grant Napear show talking bout Tyreke. says as a GM he would take care of Tyreke's contract right now and not risk anything like a team coming in and offering him a deal they cant match

There is no deal we can't match. One of the reasons Cisco isn't going anywhere is that with his ender we only have about $40mil in guarateed contracts/options we are obviously going to pick up going into next summer, presumably specifically so we can make choices whether to keep Reke, Johnson and Brooks. If Reke blows up, the money is his.
