They do, but we have fallen so far that I doubt the difference is big enough to matter anymore, and with the help of Nellieball Ellis has even bigger numbers than Reke.
This is the Commisioner's call I think, so best chance for Reke would be if Stern clearly sees him as a future superstar key to the league's popularity + marketing, and wants to help get the hype ball rolling. And that is not to say that Reke doesn't deserve it -- he does. He's flat out better than Brooks today, and in a couple of years it won't even be close (an easy way to test that is ask yourself if the Rockets could trade Brooks for Reke would they do it? And the answer is in a a millisecond). And he has been a far better leader and stable presence than Monta has. Not just a numbers guy, but a serious player playing both sides of the ball. But the league just has these traditions/biases that make it doubtful. The guy from the winning team normally gets it. The vet normally gets it. Stern can override that and say that Reke deserves it more, but I have my doubts if he would.
