Two year plan "game".

Gary

All-Star
Let's play the "two year plan" game. Let's assume that we will finish w/ 25 wins next year, and we get the #5 pick. How would you build the winner in two years?

For starters this year I would;

Kings trade
PF/C Abdur-Rahim
#10 pick (assuming we draft Mike Conley)
SF Ron Artest

Minnesota trades
PG Mike James
#7 pick (assuming they draft Noah)
SF Ricky Davis

-----------------------------------------------

Kings trade
PG Mike Bibby

Heat trade
#20 pick (assuming it is Acie Law)
PG Jason Williams
Dorell Wright

-----------------------------------------------

Kings 2007-2008 lineup
C-Brad Miller/Justin Williams
PF-Joakim Noah/ Justin Williams/Kenny Thomas
SF-Ricky Davis/Francisco Garcia/Dorell Wright
SG-Kevin Martin/John Salmons
PG-Acie Law/Justin Williams/Mike James

------------------------------------------------

Kings than get the #5 pick and draft DeAndre Jordan. I have not done any trades for 2007, because I have no idea who we will have to trade.

Kings 2008-2009 Lineup
C-DeAndre Jordan/Brad Miller
PF-Joakim Noah/Justin Williams
SF-Francisco Garcia/John Salmons
SG-Kevin Martin/John Salmons
PG-Acie Law/John Salmons/Ronnie Price/Francisco Garcia all three split time playing backup depending on the lineup.

That is one heck of a young team w/ potential, and a veteran bench! :D

Ok so I was bored at lunch

I just thought it would be fun to look to the future. I don't think we will be looking that great next year though. The year following if we get rid of some salaries should be exciting. That is if we get a good draft pick. Supposedly next year is supposed to be as good as this year if not better. Hibbert and Jordan are going to be the top big men, and we have 3-5 PG that will be top ten material as well. So if we are top 8 than we will get a top flight PG or C.

Wow, I can't even figure out what I'll be having for dinner next week let alone what the Kings personnel roster might look like in two years...

;)

Fun game. I'd play along, but it's finals week and I really should be studying. Still, I'll add some minor critiques to yours, if you don't mind ;)

First, would take Yi if he was available at 7, instead of Noah. Noah wouldn't be the end of the world if Boston took Yi at 5, but would much rather have the poential star there. Also don't know if Minny would pull the trigger on that deal or not. But lets assume here somehow we lose Artest and end up with Yi and expirings. :p

Second, the classic JWill to Miami isn't a must in a 2-year scenario. You could always wait for Bibby to increase his value with better play next year, and deal him next summer or at the trade deadline. But at #20 I would take Jason Smith, or trade up a few spots to get him. Or maybve drop down a few spots and take Marc Gasol. Bottom line: still thinking big.

Then next year, I'd do a deal along the lines of, say, your #5 for #9 and 10. Who knows how that would actually work, but trading down for two picks next year would net us two playes I'd like to have: Jordan and Darren Collison.

Add in a KT to NJ, SAR to Chicago type salary dump, and you end up with something along the lines of:

Brad Miller/DeAndre Jordan
Yi Jianlan/Jason Smith (or M.Gasol?)/Justin Williams
John Salmons/Francisco Garcia
Kevin Martin/Quincy Douby
Darren Collison/Ronnie Price

Ehh, on second thought, maybe I'll go back to the drawing board... (Maybe a cap liquidation to make a run at Arenas? )

Ok, I'll give it a whirl:

Trade #1:
Sacramento outgoing:
Mike Bibby

Sacramento incoming:
Gordan Giricek
Jarron Collins
Sam Cassell
#14 pick

LA Clippers outgoing:
Cuttino Mobley
Sam Cassell
#14

LA Clippers incoming:
Mike Bibby

Utah outgoing:
Gordan Giricek
Jarron Collins

Utah incoming:
Cuttino Mobley

Trade #2:
Sacramento to Houston:
Ron Artest

Houston to Sacramento:
Bob Sura
Kirk Snyder
Vassilis Spanoulis
#26

Draft:
#10: Jason Smith
#14: Thaddeus Young
#26: Kryrolo Fesenko

Re-sign Justin Williams to $1 mil deal

2007/2008:
PG: Spanoulis/Douby/Cassell (probably out for season with injury at this point)
SG: Martin/Snyder/Douby/Giricek
SF: Salmons/Garcia/Young
PF: Smith/Williams/SAR/KT
C: Miller/Fesenko/Collins

Deadline deal:
Miller (miraculously rejuvenated) for Kwame Brown

2008 expirings: Cassell, Giricek, Sura, Khryapa, Snyder, Brown
Re-sign Martin @ $8 mil

Payroll:
Martin $8
KT: $7.3
SAR: $6.2
Salmons: $4.4
Spanoulis $2
Collins: $2
Garcia: $2
Douby: $1.4
Smith: $2
Young: $2
Fesenko: $1.5

2008 draft: Hasheem Thabeet

Free Agency: Gilbert Arenas

2008/2009 Kings:
PG: Arenas/Spanoulis/Douby
SG: Martin/Douby/Salmons
SF: Young/Garcia/Salmons
PF: Smith/Williams/KT
C: Fesenko/Thabeet/SAR/Collins

Who knows how those youngsters would turn out, but that would be an exciting, young, athletic team.:)

My plan (for now)

How about this scenario...This inproves our front court this year and addresses the PG hole through the 2008 draft.

Trade 1 (Trade up to get our favorite PF)(Milwaukee walks with their replacement PG after Mo leaves and adds post scoring with Shareef)

Kings trade: to Milwaukee
Shareef Abdur-Rahim
#10

Bucks Trade: to Sacramento
Brian Skinner
#6

Trade 2 (Sacrifice PG spot for front court help)(Indiana finally has PG depth to contend in the east and builds around their new west coast pieces)

Kings trade: to Indiana
Mike Bibby
Kenny Thomas

Pacers trade: to Sacramento
Jermaine O’Neal

Line Up

PG: FA PG (High Pick in 2008 Draft)
SG: Kevin Martin
SF: Ron Artest
PF: #6 2007 (Brandon Wright/Al Horford/Yi Jianlian)
C: Jermaine O’Neal

PG: Ronnie Price
SG: Francisco Garcia
SF: John Salmons
PF: Justin Williams
C: Brad Miller

SG: Quincy Douby
PF/C: Brian Skinner

Next year would see a lot of point forward lineups with Kevin, Cisco, and Ron playing together.
No PG = not very good, so this is addressed either at the trade deadline, through free agency, or the draft next year which is guard rich. Maybe we would bring back Pooh Jeter to back up Price, Garcia, and Douby at the Point? Ouch...
Perhaps Chauncey Billups stock has fallen so much from his horrible playoff series with cleveland that we could swipe him up as an emergency PG replacement. I kindof like the sound of that.

Chances are not too good.

Oh come on you guys, a 7'0" white guy from a small school, an 18 year old frosh and a Ukranian whose name I can't even pronounce are SURE THINGS!! We can't go wrong!

i like that sac - milw trade. it looks like something that could happen. we'd lose some offense but gain some defense. SAR is a blackhole when he gets hte ball. however i don't think artest and oneal could coexist w/ their history together..

Aha! I was trying to figure a way to send Bibby to the Clips and get #14 back, but figured salaries were off. But you brought in the Jazz, who even have a need for Mobley at SG. Brilliant!

Although, not sure why not just just hang onto Artest if you're going after Arenas. Would make for a fun combo, don't you think? ;)
