I will take a childhood (and adulthood) favorite:
The Byrds
The jingle-jangle of their 12-string rickenbocker defined a generation of sound... also, they played a LOT of Bob Dylan tunes and did a better job at it than Bob ever did. Lastly, these guys basically invented country rock... cool band with a very interesting catalog beyond the main group of hits... but I love all their hits, too.

It's about time someone picked them! I'm not really a fan so I couldn't find room for them but they are great band and it was annoying me that they were still available.

Yes they had more than one album. Yes they are still around playing moogs and making new, weird albums... kind of a coed, moog heavy version of Weezer... the Rentals were always more fun than Weezer (though, I love Weezer, too)

Well, both damn and not. That was my next pick. In fact they were one of the 5 bands I was considering for my BTO pick, and it was between them and Don Henley two rounds ago, and then the spare was going to be picked up later if they continued to be ignored. Always thought they got spotty after their biggest hits, maybe because of all the lineup changes, but still they were set to be my resident 60s folk group and I was going to feel good about getting them so late. In any case glad SOMEBODY took them. Seemed an odd omission after all the early 60s/70s nuttiness.

And this also has been siting on the edges of my lists for a long while. In his case the problem being that after I got past his hits I was never much of a fan of his filler material. As an aside I annoyed the hell out of my parents by blasting Poison all winter long the year it came out.
In fact just in the last couple of rounds Ratt, Bush, Alice Cooper, the Byrds, Steve Miller Band and somebody else I forget have all gone off my alternates list. Even Train (who I never thought of), Matchbox and Journey (who I had mostly rejected). And while I couldn't take Danzig as a whole, I think I took Mother in the singles draft just for pretend badassness.

Hey, you should all try this for fun... play "Chestnut Mare" by the Byrds on your computer so no one can see it... then ask people which Tom Petty album this song is from... I got "the one with Mary Jane" and a couple of "This was when he was with the Travelin' Wilburies".... people were bewildered when I revealed it was the Byrds... no Tom Petty involved and about 10 years prior to Tom's first album.

Speaking of Country... With the new 30 pick rule, I knew I wanted to fit in one more country act on my island. I love these guys' sound as they have more than just that country feel to it. I first heard of them when they released "What a Crying Shame," and thought it to be a bit different from the contemporary country scene even for the early 90's. Loved it then, love it now. They also have a pretty decent catalog as well.

Do I need prog-metal on my island? Well, not exactly, but I think I’d still like to have these guys and Geoff Tate’s apparently 5-octave range (see “Take Hold of the Flame”, if you dare): Queensrÿche.
The nice thing about going to 30 picks is that there’s room to take a band for a couple of albums, rather than a career. Queensrÿche really nailed it on two albums: Operation Mindcrime, which is on the short list of best concept albums ever, and Empire, where they toned down their style a bit - to the tune of six singles. Mindcrime holds a special place for me - I remember after getting it as a teenager, that I would lay down every night for about a month in bed and listen to it on my Walkman in the dark. Those two albums alone merited this pick, and the rest of their extensive catalog will get a chance to impress me in my spare time...

Landmark songs: Take Hold of the Flame, Revolution Calling, I Don’t Believe in Love, Jet City Woman, Silent Lucidity

Mindcrime was great but they kind of lost me with Empire. Well, not kind of, they did. Tate always was fantastic though.
I am shocked, shocked!that Queensrÿche lasted this long. I thought they were mainstream enough for people to pick them up, and I figured they might even go during the great run of hair metal bands. Empire is a very good mainstream album, but for my money, Operation Mindcrime is where it's at. I even kind of liked the 2006 followup. My favorite song, however, is:

Much as I feel there is something else I still want to protect at this late date, I've put off adding some bluesy bar rock far too long:
The Jeff Healey Band
AKA The Roadhouse Memorial pick. Aside from having the awesomeness to appear in one of my movies from the movie draft, Healey was a remarkable story of course because he was blind and still went on to become a top blues gutiarist with a unique playing style that saw him just sit his guitar on his lap rather than cradle it or stand up with it. Now both Healey and this whole area of music is one where I rarely draw individual all time gotta have it songs. But I've always felt it was hard to go wrong with blusey bar rock, let alone when you have an elite guitarist leading the crew, and I absolutely needed somebody who could just crank out a straight 12 bar. So this pick isn't just for Healey, its picking up a whole subgenre of music that just puts a smile on my face.
