Rule i) -- some fugly cobbled together thing basicaly amounting to ok, but only if they also conducted their own music. Basically trying to focus on performance, not just songwriting.
I'm not sure what you mean by only if they also conducted their own music. It wouldn't be possible that they conducted all of it, do you just mean that they sometimes conducted their own works? What if they sometime performed their own works?
Well, shoot. I thought it was obvious I should be the one to go. But now that the decision has been made I'll draft musical artists like I've never drafted musical artists before.
So my question now is... any volunteers to draft for me starting at 10pm Friday night (Sep 9), likely through Saturday Sep 17? I would be supplying a list with a few instructions and if the list runs out then I would just auto-timeout until I return.

I vote for Warhawk to draft for you.. Furthermore, I vote for the Warhawk/uolj Two-Headed Grudge Match Internally-Conflicted Artist List. But that's just me.

Ha ha... I thought about that. First I thought about Warhawk drafting for me, but then I figured that would suck for him to have to draft from my list. So then I thought about having him start off the draft and me finish it, but I have a feeling our tastes are completely different, so that would be one crazy list.
Although to be honest I don't really mind either way.
With the first overall pick in the musical artist draft, I select:
The Beatles
One of the most successful, influential, and copied rock bands in history; for every music pick after the 1960s you can ask yourself, "how did NoBonus's pick, the Beatles, influence my pick?" Great cataglog of albums. No question about this pick at all.
While I'm miffed that I will surely lose my top 2 picks by being at 12 I'm delighted not to have been #1 where picking the Beatles is almost an obligation.

I wouldn't have gone with the Beatles, but I suppose that's why I'm not in this draft. I'll enjoy taking my potshots from the peanut gallery.
Sure, I get their "awesomeness", and I'm not saying they don't deserve the #1 pick, but I wouldn't have taken them. I have a feeling my "first round pick" will last until late 2nd/early 3rd.
I don't doubt you, I'm glad that they went to someone who truly likes them. For me, I could just rattle off 200 artists I'd rather listen to than the Beatles and yet would have a hard time justifying almost any of them with the Beatles on the table. Perhaps it is more that die hard Beatles fans drive me nuts with stuff like "Well your favorite band would never have existed if the Beatles hadn't existed." There's no denying their influence and yet I have no doubt a number of bands from that period could have filled their shoes. To me they raise a great philosophical question - Is it possible that something or someone can be the greatest of all time and the most overrated of all time?
The Beatles weren't really THAT influential, music-wise they were quite outdated too. Thing is, they played pop music better than anybody else in history.

For me they went from a toothless 50s covers boy band to a great original rock band to an unlistenable drugged out psych band. There were parts in phases A and C that were also great but it was really only that middle period that I really care for.
I'm only picking him once. After that I'm going with his alter ego "Terry Ten-Cent Bread", followed by his high-school band "Recent Nerd Battery", then his first college effort "Better Renter Candy", then his experimental era side project "Trendy Trance Beret"...

Ok, a bit strongly worded. It's not my bag. For whatever reason the stuff I really dislike stands out in my mind (Within You Without You, Tomorrow Never Knows off the top of my head) more than the straight ahead rock stuff they did in their later era, perhaps because that is what is supposed to be so revolutionary. I'm a simple man of simple tastes. Four chords, the spite to use them and just enough wisdom to ignore the truth. That's all I need.
I have no shortage of artists I want of course, most I can probably take in whatever round I want though. I'd prefer to draft a band more than two people have heard of in the first round
That's because The Beatles were and are uber-famous so most of the people who listen to a certain type of music heard it from them first, but it's not like they invented anything new or groundbreaking by themselves. If The Beatles didn't exist probably most of those big name artists would name another band instead of them and their music would still sound the same.
Anyway I'm not taking away anything from their music, my opinion on an artist isn't modified by how much he was or wasn't influential.

It's also an easy answer. Ask me my favorite band I won't hesitate to give you the answer even though I may go long periods of time without listening to them.
