Trey Johnson has reached agreement with Kings?

Trey Johnson is a 6'4"/ 6'5" SG. He played for Jackson State and another college I can't remember. He was a pretty good shooter, and a good passer. I don't believe he was drafted, but has been in and out of the NBA a few times. I know he's played in summer league, and in the D-League. Other than that, I don't know too much about him. He could be training camp fodder, or he could be on an un-guaranteed contract and intended as filler in a coming trade. Your guess is as good as mine.

Its like the beginning of every underdog sports movie ever made where the outsider coach or GM starts assembling this year's team out of a long list of random has beens and never weres that nobody else is interested in, but that "he has had his eye on".

Trey Johnson, 30yrs old out of Ohio State, last played for Maccabi. Our resident Casspi fan may be able to say more about him.

He's 30 years old........the point? So we sign him to a one year deal and let Marshoon Brooks go?

I guess we are kind of low on undersized 2 guards so maybe it does make sense

When I left on my travels, I was hoping that PDA would stack some talent on this roster and damnit, he's done just that. I for one am impressed. These last few contracts are just what we need to jump into playoff contention. How we ever managed to snag Trey Johnson with all the competition to get a guy like him, I don't know but yet another impressive move by our FO.

Hope I can get one of his jerseys before they sell out.

Ahhhh, yes sir, sorry sir, on my way..........

Thing is you freakos...

This guy will come in HUMBLE. He'll come in professional, prepared, contributing to chemistry, knowing his role, and happy to be here. Plus the effort will be 100% all the time. And for cheap. Do you realize how much you all complained about X player's EFFORT last year? We're eliminating that from even being a possibility with signings like this. 9-12 bench guys can and should be like that.

We're building our roster from the top down. Once we have more time and are in contention, THEN we'll be building that depth, and paying more than league minimum for those spots. Now, this is good enough. We're not wasting 3 mil of capspace on these spots until we have to. Not what we need.

So meanwhile Andray Blatche , who got 9 mil last yr, in Miami to nego, I thought Miami could only offer min contracts to play with 20mil a yr Bosh and Dwayne "my back hurts" Wade , While we sign David Wear and Trey Johnson to training camp

Maybe we can double Miami's min offer to 2 mil? using BiAnnual Exception?

Wow , just Wow

Do not underestimate the powers of Wearman and Treyboy!

"Maccabi" is name of sport association... So there're "Maccabi" teams in many towns in Israel. Johnson didn't play for "The Maccabi" ("Maccabi" Tel-Aviv), he played for "Maccabi" Rishon-LeZion, which was one of weakiest teams in Israeli "Winner" League last season. He was signed close to the end of the season (replaced sone other american player which wasn't playing up to expectations) while the team struggled to survive in the league... They succeded but just barely - finishing 10th in field of 12 teams.
Johnson played in 7 games (all - off the bench...): 27.1 minutes pg, 12.7 ppg (47.4% on 2pt, 34.8% on 3 pt), 3.3 apg, 2.9 rpg. Not spectacular stats ... in bad team in Israeli league, and while I do like our league and I think it's pretty strong for small country (not sure if it worse than that of Germany or France), but it's not NBA, not Euroleague...even not VTB or Spanish league... So. I don't know... probably he didn't play his best basketball while in Israel (personally i don't remember him at all... even I've seen one or two translations of Rishon-LeZion's game close to the end of last season)

That's a pretty good and unbiased summary. Seems like he's just in for training camp, can't imagine it's a guaranteed contract unless they're just looking for a shooter at the end of the bench.

In the old days a guy like this coming in got no news. But with the internet and the modern media that is pipelined into all the sports agents this is what you get. Up to the minute reports on guys that get training camp invites.

Also I think this is a difference in the Petrie ran Kings and the way Pete does things. Its nice to hear all the news. Even the little news about a 30 yo journeyman who has bounced around the basketball landscape.

Lets also not forget how many times we saw the multiple SF lineup late last season. Malone did not have any guards on the bench. As for me I like to have a reliable "Bench Mob".

So Pete bring us the players that you and Bratz have "been keeping and eye on":D

Well we just waived Tyler (Im not sure this ranks it's own thread) but it helps explain this prospect.
http://sports.yahoo.com/news/sacramento-kings-waive-jeremy-tyler-224719927.html
We've made a number of moves now to dump guys in ending contracts for guys on waivable non-guaranteed contracts. I would dearly like to see this as a plan to improve the team and not just the owner's finances, having been poisoned to these sorts of maneuvers by the Maloofs, but generally in order to improve the team with them, you need to use them yourself as incentives in trades. We're clearing a very little cap room which might be of some very little use in a trade in taking back more money than we send out while not running into the luxury tax, but I will again note that if this is all part of some grand incredibly slow moving trade sequence, its about as farsighted, and unlikely (because how could you trust your opposite party to hang in this long) as anything I've seen in the NBA. This is about 6 straight weeks of diddling and dawdling without an apparent object other than shaving little chinks off the payroll.

Oh, your preaching to the choir here Brick. I have stated over and over that we ought to be trading enders for talent we can hold for a few years. My only observation here was that giving Trey a look made sense with Tyler being waived, given the number of bodies needed for the opening of trading camp.

As far as making any sense of the mini-moves this off season I doubt if there is a grand plan more like PDA creating some space so that IF thee right deal comes around we could absorb some salary.

We should have done exactly what we did with the J Terry ender, which is get rid of him. Had no value for the size of his ending contract. As far as these other small contracts, I also believe that they have limited value and that a small contract at 2 years is easily moveable. Now if we are potentially in line for THEE big contract player, we have DWill as an ender to supplement that deal. He has some value.
