Training Camp updates

I think some of us are over thinking this thing a little. In my mind Cisco is a SG and always has been. He's a SG that can play some SF and can also play the point on occasion. So I don't think there's any rocket science here. Whether he starts or not is immaterial at this poiint. I'm sure he'll see some time on the floor with Tyreke, but so will Beno. If I had a choice, I'd lean toward Cisco, but if its Beno, I don't have a problem with it. Beno played pretty well with Tyreke last season.

Anybody else notice the good chemistry between the White squad in the scrimmage? I really enjoyed all of the passing, cutting, and post play from DMC and JT taking it right at Landry and Dalembert (though preferably more DMC and less JT postups please). The black team seemed all too content with a dribble around the perimeter attack, reminded me too much of the last two years.

In the end if the starters day one is the White squad with Tyreke instead of Pooh I would be satisfied.

One of the main things I noticed about the white team was how they looked like 2 different teams based on whether or not Jeter was on the floor. Every time he left the game, the black team went on a run.

Day 8 of training camp notes
I'm looking at Garcia as more of a two guard now," said Kings coach Paul Westphal after today's practice.

Westphal said the starting spot at small forward is "wide open."

"We're looking for somebody that answers that call," Westphal said. "We don't need somebody who's a No. 1 primary option in reality or in their own mind. We need somebody who's going to get the ball inside and knock down open shots."

Hey peeps, still think I'm trippin? Because I'm thinking this is exactly what I've been saying. Just sayin'.

Why is Marcus Landry starting? That bothers me.

Well, I don't think we really know for sure whose starting and whose not. It could possibly be a flexable thing all the way through training camp and into the start of the season.

Probably because we know where Donte and Casspi stand. Marcus' stellar play the other day in scrimmage probably earned him some more minutes and the organization wants to see if this is our 3rd-string dude before we make out final cuts.

It could just as easily be Westphal sending a message to both Omri and Donte. I haven't heard Westphal say anything overly positive about either, although he has been quick to point out others who have impressed.

I still expect either Omri or Donte to start at the 3 come opening night, probably Donte at this point. But I do think it's likely Westphal might be trying to light his first fire under someone's *** of this preseason, which I have no problem with if that is the case.

Quick, check this vid out before it disappears....

You do realize that you're going to cause an avalanche of indignant posts about Cousins taking that shot, right?

It's the way of the Kings
I wish people would stop saying this like the Kings are the only team to have injured players. Just look at the Clippers, they lost their new power forward for the entire year, while the Blazers haven't had Oden(the next greatest player ever)for a full season or close to one for the past three years. Also lets not forget the Rockets who have had Yao and Tmac injured countless times for over a year at a time. So please stop the "ARCO was built on an Indian(native American now) Burial ground" crap.

PS: I am not singling you out, it just seems that people keep bringing up this crap like the Kings have exceptionally bad luck, and they don't.

Spencer Hawes would be proud

So would Pau, Dirk, Yao, Timmy, Kaman, Big Z, Okur, Vlade, CWebb ... ya know, all those bigs that never took outside shots...

I doubt he's gonna be camped out there like Hawes, but from the looks of it, he's got a better shot anyway. If Cuz can hit them, and it just on occasion, what's the big deal if the coaching staff is cool with it? Especially if Dally is on the court at the same time.

If it won't effect his rebounding, and he still gets in on D and bangs, why wouldn't you be cool with that?

Orlando and Dwight Howard are both limited in how far they can go because of howards lack of an offensive game, both in the post and and the face up/shooting game. I'm ok with DMC taking those shots on occasion if they're in the flow of the offense.

Dude, who cares when he os gobbling up 16 boards, scoring 16 points, and playing decent to good post defense? I certainly don't care if once or twice a game he pops out and stretches the defense. Hell they should run a pick and pop with him and Tyreke cuz it would keep the defense honest as hell. A freaking bang-pants center that can step out and consistently drop 16-18 footers is HUMONGOUS.

If your going to run the pick and roll, then the big man has to be able to hit the 16 to 18 foot jumper. Otherwise his man drops off to double down on the roller. There's a big difference between shooting out of the pick and roll and camping out behind the 3 pt line. So I'm agreeing with you.... Lest you become confused by my post.....

Day 10

Coach says there are still 3 open spots in the starting lineup

I wonder which 3 he is refering to. PG obviously is a lock. But with Carl off to a slow start, I feel like 4 spots can be open. Most likely coach has Beno penciled in for SG so the front court is a toss up.

My Preference at this point would be

Tyreke
Cisco
Cousins
Greene (though I'm starting to lean more to Casspi)
JT

My guess is the three open spots are: SG (Garcia and Udrih), SF (Casspi and Greene), and PF (Thompson and Landry). I don't see Cousins beating out Daly quite yet, even though on some nights I bet he gets more minutes.

Wow. That was a very enlightening video. I love the way he answers questions. Either totally directly, or just says not I'm not going to tell you that now. I love how he's go the balls to use the player in the way that is best for the team, and the balls to say it. Nothing like straightforwardness.

This video covered virtually every topic we've been hotly debating around here for the past several months. Thanks coach! And great interviewers too!

You have to wonder how much of Westphal's ambiguity is motivational tool, how much is genuine uncertainty, and how much is him just toying with the fans.

You do have to wonder. And so do the players! (perhaps)

That's not entirely a good thing you know, if true.

You've got to have trust there between players and the coach. Maybe unless you are Phil Jackson and have 11 rings. Guys don't want to be artifically jerked around. Might help that we are young, but vets in particular aren't going to appreciate duplicity.
