Trades with Jazz

News is out that Mo Williams will miss another two months. The Jazz are on the cusp of playoffs, but without Williams, they are back to a zero-shooting backcourt (outside of Foye, who is a bench player at best).

The Jazz also have a glut of bigs with a logjam for minutes. We have a glut of backcourt scoring with a logjam for minutes.

Trade 1:

Fredette and Robinson for Kanter and Earl Watson.

Why we do it. Watson brings something our other two point guards do not. Defense. He is small and not a scorer, but is a good to great defensive guard. A good option to put on dangerous second-unit guards like Bledsoe. Kanter is a big body, but a semi-project. He does not block shots terribly well, but he fills the lane like a Pekovic or a Koufos.

Why the Jazz do it. I really don't think the Jazz organization cares where Jimmer played college ball. The fans would like it, but Utah sells out almost every game anyway. He is there as a floor spacer for guys like Burks and Favors who need more room to operate than the current roster allows. As a starting guard, he has the benefit of a pretty decent defensive frontcourt between Jefferson, Milsap, Favors, and even Gordon Hayward to shore up his defensive deficiencies.

With Robinson, they get a pupil for Milsap to train and injury/trade insurance for their bigs.

Trade 2:

Brooks and Thompson for Favors and GSW pick.

I'm not sure who is getting the better end of this deal. Brooks is a stand-in for Williams on a good contract while Thompson is the ideal bench big for a playoff-bound team.

The real prize for the Kings is Favors who is the defensive-minded, athletic rim protector that we want to pair with Cousins. The pick is merely to get the deal done as the Warriors pick will be outside the lottery in a somewhat shallow draft year.

That said, the Jazz are very high on Favors, and are unlikely to including him in a deal that didn't bring back a Tyreke level talent.

While I would love ethier trade pretty much everything I hear the Jazz say they are building around Favours/Kantar in particular Favours, imo Hayward would be the only piece we could get which I doubt they would trade, the Jazz are looking to move ethier or both Milsap and Jefferson.

They won't move Favors or Kanter.

Millsap/Jefferson might be a different story. The thing is that both of those guys are expiring at the end of the year, so they don't have to worry so much about dumping them, and we'd have to put some significant salary on to them to grab Jefferson. Millsap for Garcia and Brooks would work out cap-wise, but that doesn't mean they're interested. Does half a year of Millsap really change anything here?

I suspect they'll sit tight with Tinsley and Watson.

you can't be serious.

I like the general idea of trading with the Jazz because they also are an unbalanced team. I'd really be thinking seriously though about Hayward. Something is going to give on their team at the sf or pf positions, just like it's going to give with Kings at the pg position.

Also, Denver is an interesting team because of their need for outside shooting and the Kings have Thornton. I just don't know if Denver has redundant parts they'd be willing to give up.

Thanks a lot for giving me a huge headache this morning

Backcourt pieces and a vet contract for Big Al makes a lot of sense for both sides.
I would love to see a move like that.

And Big Al has supposedly been a great and willing teacher for Favors/Kanter, imagine what a great low post mentor he could be for Cuz, even for just half season.
I would gladly move Brooks/Trob and other bad contracts for Jeff and a pick, and would strongly consider Thornton and our worst contracts (Outlaw/Hayes).

Would you do this trade?

Our two best players in exchange for an undersized scoring big and a high energy player? Where do I sign up?

But seriously? No friggin' way. This is quite possibly the only trade that would make our undersized frontcourt even smaller and is, honestly, not a good return on our players.

Utah has no intention of trading either Kanter, or Favors. Jefferson or Milsap are definite possibilities. But the other two are near untouchables as far as the Jazz are concerned. Also, I wish people would try trading player off our team that we don't need, or that don't have a future with the Kings. Players like Outlaw, Salmons, Hayes, Brooks, etc. Instead people keep trying to give away players that have value to the team and its future. Don't get me wrong, I'd trade Thompson and Brooks for Favors straight up. Its just that Utah wouldn't.

Lol where do the Magic sign up? Jameer Nelson, Glen Davis and JJ Redick for Cuz, Evans and an expiring.
