Marcus Smart is definitely not worth a top 14 pick in this years draft. His trade value would be closer to our high 2nd round pick, but not our 1st round picks.
Err? Marcus Smart for a 2nd rounder?
If we go with a SF, say Isaac with our pick, and all the promising PG prospects are off the board with the NO pick, then I'm fine with a trade. I'm not sure what to think of Smart. I thought he would be a stud coming out of college but I get too many conflicting opinions on him now. Rozier on the other hand.
Smart is heads and shoulders above Rozier. Way better playmaker, way better defender, about equal in the rebounding area, but not that good of a jumpshooter. Roziers problem is, that he simply isn't a PG. He is a great athlete and he uses his athleticism to get some boards and to play solid D, but he can't run a team to save his life.
How about trading one of our first round picks for Marcus Smart? It was give us a young PG with strong defensive skills. It would give Boston a shot at a superstar.
It would be great to have both Smart and Temple for some D minded guards. We have not had that in years. DJ may love it.
The thought intrigues me.
Marcus Smart would have made sense, when Boogie was still here, because he would have made a difference on defense and his offensive shortcomings would be overshadowed, when surrounded by Boogie and 3 additonal jumpshooters like Temple, Tolliver/Skal and Barnes/Afflalo/Malachi.
Now with 2 bigs, who are basically rim runners and lob targets (maybe Papa can actually do more on offense, but that's up in the air right now) and one big, who looks like a prototypical pick&pop/roll finisher, you basically want a PG more from the Steph Curry, Damian Lillard mold. A guy with a jumpshot off the dribble, who has a great understanding of the pick&roll. If our bigs pan out on D, we would be even able to mask a PG with questionable defense a bit.
YOu know, who would make a whole lot of sense now? Seth Curry.........once again the Kings were able to plan ahead right?.....
