Trade needed to break up logjam (split)

All-Star
So now we have Jason Thompson, Carl Landry, Reggie Evans, Omri Casspi, Derrick Williams, Eric Moreland, Quincy Acy, Travis Outlaw, Rudy Gay to cover two positions and whatever scrap minutes backup C needs. We need some sort of trade to blow up this logjam, at least 3 of those guys needs to be turned into another guard, starting PF or backup C.

Totally agree. (I split this out from the Moreland thread, BTW.)

I'd like to wave goodbye to Derrick Williams, Travis Outlaw and Jason Thompson - but not all for the same reason. I think moving JT would be best for all concerned; I think DWill is nothing more than a vast disappointment; I don't see any need for Outlaw any longer.

Here's hoping that PDA has more tricks up his sleeve.

What do you think we could get? Should get?

The fact that PDA is even interested in Omri Casspi with our boatloads of forwards suggest that they have some trade lined up to clear out our forwards.

I'm no good at trade scenarios, potential player acquisitions, etc. From what I've seen thus far, I think PDA has a goal in mind - and isn't going to let anyone else know what it is until it's a fait accompli. We needed a shooter, we got a shooter. We needed a shot blocker, we got a shot blocker. Granted, they're young and still more potential than proven asset, but at least they're a step in the right direction.

The Kings are very much a work in progress. It's just refreshing to me to see progress in the right direction instead of what we had unfortunately become used to.

I've said it before, but I'm enjoying each step in this new journey. It went by all too quickly back in 2001+ and I know some of us didn't truly appreciate what we had and how far we had come until it was all over. I'm not going to make that mistake again. :)

I LOVE THIS TEAM!!

I think the Omri Casspi signing will prove to be a very big mistake and waste of roster spot, unless we intend to have him playing at D-League where he clearly belongs.

If we can clear our forward rotation up and answer some defensive needs with one trade, I'd be thoroughly impressed.

I'm not sure what this thread is asking. Listed nine forwards, none of which are the defensive presence we need and the assumption is we need one trade? What's the trade proposal? How does that work?

Even if we flipped JT or Landry for J Smoove, we'd still have nine forwards and a logjam and without JT, no backup center.

Almost seems like we are filling our holes before they are created. Casspi = backup SF just so happens we have two backup SF's on block. Moreland possible min at PF and C. Just so happens we got a few of them as well JT & Landry. Holding off on hustle guy in acy. Reggie Evans same type of player. Talking to Terrance Williams. 3 & D guy with good handle and good passer. Just so happens we still have trade bait with McLemore.

I personally think we will make another run at josh smith maybe throwing in McLemore this time around plus gives us 2 mil to sign maybe brooks and acy

Sac out
JT
Ben
Derek Williams

Sac in
Josh smith

Sign moreland casspi and Terrance

Gives you
Collison/ray/
Stauskas/Williams/brooks
Gay/ casspi/outlaw
Smith/Landry/Moreland
Cousins/acy

Still thin at backup c. But everything else is taken care of. Maybe moreland could get a few min at c

That's harsh. The only way I can see that positions #10-15 are wasted is if we pay too much for any player using up those positions. You can't afford to have studs at every position. Whether Casspi is good or not, if we need to play him in an emergency, he will not be lost on the floor as he is a multi-year veteran. There will be no deer in the headlights reaction that you may get from a rookie. We are building a team and that includes the good and the bad just because the salary cap puts limits on what can be spent.

I get it, people don't like him.

Oh god. That's way too much value for Smith who's not even wanted in Detroit. I would puke if that happens and I puked a little just reading that trade

Casspi bashing is really, really, really ,really ,really ,really, really, really, really ,really ,really ,really ,really ,really ,really, really
really

strange. No, he's not god's gift to basketball, nor does he solve all our problems. But he was an 18 MPG rotational player on one of the best teams in the NBA last season on a vet. min deal. No lose situation and he's better than D-will/Outlaw were last year.

No, SOME people don't like him.

Why do we "need" to get rid of JT? We all know he can fill in at back up center. A position we a thin at. Front office keeps pushing positions was basketball. Well jt covers 2 positions with back up center being a big importance. I have a feeling the front office just wants to clean house and get rid of everyone except Cuz, no matter what they preach or whatever Malone may want.

I wonder what JT thinks now that IT is gone. I noticed a few quarrels between them last season that flew under the radar. Either way I don't rush to trade JT just because he threw a fit he fills a role at the end of the day he's the only guy on roster who can fill in at the 5.

I would like to hang onto JT if the IT move makes him happy and he accepts a 3rd big role.

D-Will, I love ya, but I don't realistically think you have a spot on this club. Maybe not in the NBA.

Evans, Terry, Landry and Outlaw are all surplus to team needs. Would like to see them all moved but realistically some will stick around if for no reason other than roster minimums.

Bring in a starting caliber 4 that is a good fit with Cousins.

Then I'm happy.

JT is JT. He'll always be who he is. While that isn't necessarily a bad thing, part of who he is involves too many pouty faces, arguments about fouls, etc. JT is part of the old culture - the culture that became so totally used to losing that they quit trying to win.

Does the front office want to clean house? Well, aside from DMC they've made it pretty clear. And personally, I think it's a good thing.

Based on what getting carried on a good team?

I think PDA is accumulating players (i.e. Moreland, Casspi, Twill (maybe)) because he will need players to fill roles once the BIG trade happens.

I fully expect that we will be trading a lot of the log jam before the season starts and I expect PDA will be trading 2 0r 3 players for one (i.e JT, DWill and Outlaw for Josh Smith or Ben McClemore, JT and Jason Terry for Rondo). Therefore creating a need in the backup spots.

I still think August 15th is a target date to get some deal done. Players that were traded or drafted players can't be traded for 30 days and after August 15th a lot more players will become available.

no need to clear the logjam at PF, just play them like this:

PG - Moreland: played guard at high school. will block every 3 point attempt without fouling,
SG - D-Will: finally isn't undersized anymore
SF - Acy: finally isn't undersized anymore
PF - Casspi
C - Evans

Seriously, we try to keep Acy, we sign Casspi (who can be seen as a part time PF) and Moreland. I'm sure there're more trades coming to clear up the logjam. There have to be!

That's clearly positionless basketball!

We get it. You really don't like Casspi. At this point, however, all you've brought to the discussion is vague declarations without fact or substance.

I'm truly hoping the days of Kings fans bashing our own will be over.
How was he so much better than Outlaw? I would say Outlaw is a better defender/athlete and shot similar %'s. this whole thing he played 18mpg on Houston is non-sense he was not used once in the playoffs and everytime they played a good team just about he never played, again the only reason he got any playing time was cause Asik was being a baby.
