Trade Martin for Hedo

YEAH! Let's get another overpaid SF! Hey I've got an idea. Why don't we trade everyone on our team that isnt a SF for other SFs and have a whole team of SFs. We'd be extremely versatile. Great idea!!!!

I'm not opposed to moving Martin, but I agree with Bricky that it would have to be for a young and special talent. Not a 30 year old player, who I happen to like. As far as Martin's defense. Yeah I would love it if he could play better defense. But the truth is, he's the number one option on our team, and historicaly, number one options aren't known for their defense. Their known for scoring.

Now the number four and five options fall into a different catagory. Particularly, if they happen to be perimiter players. Conventionly, the shooting guard or the small forward are usually the best defensive players on the team. Unless your lucky enough to have a Mutombo on your team.

Whereas Martin is currently holding down the two spot, then I believe the Kings need to upgrade the defense at the three spot. Neither Noc or Cisco is a lock down defender. They both put forth the effort and are effective in different ways, but I don't see the King's being serious contenders with either one as a starter. Greene is a complete mystery at this point.

Of course we can just trade Martin for Wade and our problem is solved.

The original deal is horrible for the Kings. Why would we trade Martin for Hedo considering his contract status? You are selling Martin short in terms of trade value in general.

Dude, the Magic is not going to let Hedo walk away. He's their playmaker in the system, not the PG. If Hedo leaves it'll create a huge hole in the Magic's offense. The Magic is not going to trade Hedo for Martin and they're going to do everything they can to re-sign him.

And there's no good reason for Hedo to come back to Sacto. He's on a very good team, given a rare opportunity to be the guy who dictates the offense, he is having fun and winning games, so the next step is for him to come to the worst team in the league? Sorry, not a chance.

Lastly, Martin is a good SG. Not a franchise player, mind you; and a player with a few holes. But KMart is the least of our problems.

well my logic is i dont think they can keep lewis and turk, they gotta move one, turk is a fa and dude is such a complete player, plus i think we shud move martin while he has high vaule.

Hedo playin well again under pressure.

I'd trade Kevin for the #1 or 2 pick. Wouldn't bother me. Of course, one was thinking the Kings wouldn't have to do that. BLAH

But, I find it funny now to think about that original Hedo trade. We did it to get another big man to guard Shaq and because management and coaches thought Peja was the better player, so that losing Hedo wouldn't cost the team as much. Years later, Peja is still a one dimensional player that has been dropping off year by year, Brad is the pussiest big man to earn 10 mill and Hedo is an all-star that is making the big plays on a contender.

I appreciate your angst, but I don't think the trade of Martin for the #1 or #2 pick would work under the current labor agreement. Something about the salaries having to match.

As far as the rest of your post, there is a chronological order to all of those things, and taken in that order, they made sense at the time. At the time Hedo was traded, you would be hard pressed to find many people that thought he was a better player than Peja. And, we did come close to winning a championship with Miller.

If Hedo had been the player he is today, he probably wouldn't have been traded. By the way, Hedo is a perfect example of why not to give up on, and trade away young players with potential. G. Wallace is another example. Two players that we would certainly welcome back. So before you decide you want to trade off Hawes, Thompson or Martin, or maybe even Greene, remember Hedo and Wallace, and many others around the league that took time. Sometimes patience is rewarded.

Okay, Martin isn't that young anymore -- minor point, but people have to quit talking about a 26 yr old as if he is going to make major strides. You are what you are at that age. That wasn't actually what I was going to post about here, but felt it needed to be said. He in no way can be lumped with guys like Spencer anymore on the development curve. As an aside, Gerald did take a few years to blossom...at the ripe old age of 22/23. Anything past 25 = very rare.

Okay, what I was going to mention, and this applies to Kevin as well as any of other our current contracts, is that we are under the cap, and many of our potential trading partners are under the cap too. So the matching salaries rules are not going to apply to trades between those sorts of teams.

The first part of my post was intended for humor. But since you decided to bring it up, Martin is scheduled to make over 10 mil next year, so any team would have to be considerably under the cap. As for lumping Martin in with Hawes etc. I only did that because at the moment he's part of our core group. I've already stated that I'm not opposed to trading Martin. Of that group he has the most trade value and has also reached most of his potential.

Your right about our being under the cap (approximately 7 mil) giving us some flexability. We could trade a player making 5 mil a year and take back a player making 12 mil. If you could work KT into a deal, which is a possiblity, finally, then all sorts of options open up for you.

Uhh... no we didn't.
