Trade Hickson and Jimmer

Johnson has way more potential than Greene. Johnson has the tools to be a good shooter, rebounder, passer, and defender. He just needs to put it together.

Haven't half the people on the forums been making the same exact argument about Donte? Johnson is in fact a year older than Greene, puts up what are essentially the same stats as Greene with 7 more minutes a game. I would be remiss in neglecting to mention that Donte is 4 inches taller than Johnson as well.

they arent getting rid of jimmer. if they were excited enough to draft him I doubt they wanna get rid of him already. and they wouldnt get much for him because he is a rookie with no exp

Performance doesn't project potential. There is a reason Johnson was taken 4th overall and Greene was taken 28th.

I didn't think I was asking much for him considering both him and Johnson aren't putting up the best numbers in the world.

Draft position isn't always indicative of talent level. Hasheem Thabeet was picked 2nd overall and yet was nearly impossible to give away.

There is a problem in waiting and that is that our youngsters will be off their rookie contracts and will demand a lot more money. This will leave very little cap space to add a vet exactly at the time we need one. I'd rather be premature than too late but that's my preference.

I see your point. My point is to keep our salaries flexbile so we can offer a contract to a vet when we need one. Right now I think it would be a waste. We need more development from our young guys first. Look at the Thunder and how they built their team. Their team was extremely young. They built their team around their young stars and added supplemental vets. We have young pieces that can develop into stars. We don't need to sign star veterans (like we could if we wanted to). We will need to sign role playing veterans when the time comes. There is still a lot of players on this team that have a lot of untapped potential and I think it would hurt us if we signed a veteran to take minutes away from them when we are not a competitive team.

Thomas, Fredette, Thornton, Evans, Honeycutt, Thompson, Cousins, and Whiteside all can be good players in this league. I would hate to see them not come into their own because we got impatient and signed a couple veterans.

Of course there are outliers like Thabeet, but if you were to put your money somewhere would it be on a player drafted 4th overall and in his second year or a player drafted 28th overall and in his 4th year? It seems like a pretty easy choice to me.

It would go on the younger, cheaper, more athletic player

I have a dream that is attainable. I have said it often except I must now subtract Sloan or JVG from the dream. The dream is to get a very good SF like AK47 and draft a great big to run with Cousins maybe like Thomas Robinson. There are actually several bigs available in this draft. I would particularly like to draft a great PF/C to block that position from Smart's desire and experience with small ball. AK47 goofs that up also as, even though he could play PF, with a rookie big of talent already at that position, Smart would almost be forced to use AK at SF.

Then we have a team like:

Thornton/IT
Tyreke/Jimmer
AK47/Salmons
Robinson/JT/Greene depending ENTIRELY on the matchup
Cousins/JT/Hayes -- many permutations and combinations of the PF/C position.

I have scratched off Whiteside perhaps prematurely but am not saying to get rid of him. His last game where he seemed to be unaware that there was a basketball game going on really bothered me.

There may be other ways of playing the guys but I think this is a good team and that there is no reason to stall to make a big push some other year. I'm bothered by the present 4 guards. Although I understand why Smart thinks Tyreke can be a SF, I think he is wasting a huge mismatch Tyreke creates at the guard position.

Salmons is playing well off the bench. Salmons' explanation was that as a bench player he can have his hands on the ball more. That makes sense. My points are not so much about the specifics as even I can argue with my lineup. My point has to do with what a huge change two additions (starters) makes in our lineup.

I also would like to switch ownership as I think this is what blocks our team from a very successful future.

Or, better if we can switch GM.

A very good thinker, relentless, and active GM can probably help the owners pick the right personnel/players for our team. One who will not just make trades for the sake of having traded. We can be cheap and yet be very good, only if Petrie is working hard enough to acquire and/or retain the right players. Our GM had consistently failed on that part of his job.

Or, we can retain Petrie and hope that one of these days he gets that rare luck with his move. Because with Petrie, it's pure luck that we can expect on trades and sometimes some of the moves does not even make sense.
