I'm not a fan of a Fox for Randle deal. Compared with Sabonis he's higher usage while also being less efficient on offense. I also can't stand watching him inexplicably go into a spin move every time his feet touch the paint.
If I'm looking for positives, he's a good passer, does shoot better from outside on higher volume, is a good rebounder, and is easier to fit alongside a more traditional center - something that's always been an issue for Sabonis.
That said, I'd much rather have Sabonis, warts and all. Especially given Randle's age and contract status.

Randle is under contract for the next three years with a PO for a 4th. He signed an extension over the summer (which is probably why Knicks fans hate him now)

There's only like a year and a third age difference between the two so it's not like they're both at wildly different stages of their careers though? Especially when you factor in Randle had to miss his entire rookie season aside from one game because he broke his leg on opening night.
Are you sure? Spotrac still shows him as an ender this year.
I do think getting him with Hali unlocks a lot of these problems with Randle. Knicks have really struggled to find a lead ball-handler/creator for years and have basically pushed that all to Randle. So getting him into a secondary creator role and playing off Hali should boost his efficiency back to the elite levels from earlier in his career. But I do agree, the biggest issue is the contract situation. If you're selling Fox, you better be damn sure you're getting Randle for 3+ years at a minimum as a foundational piece.

Theoretically, you acquire Randle/RJ and have them (or at least Randle) sit the rest of the season/really make sure they're healthy and (assuming we'd be sending them this year's pick but with top five protection or something) hope that our pick ends up being high enough that we get to keep it and add Jabari or Chet to the core. That requires a whole lot of gymnastics and luck to get there but it's possible.
Still no defense there. RJ is high usage, low impact. He's essentially just Wiggins. Randle is really good when he's efficient but he's high usage, low impact himself when he's not efficient (still much better than RJ). Seems to vary from year to year for Randle.
I think that puts this team in the same position unless Randle is having one of his good years. Randle from last year might get the Kings into the play in but that's all I can really see as a ceiling for that squad.

I’m sure New York wouldn’t trade Randle and RJ for Fox though right? Even if we included our first that would be a total reset for a team that ended a playoff drought last year and has a win now coach. I don’t love their core but

I get not trading players who have low to no value like Hield, Bagley, and Fox. But you’re telling me you can’t find one trade out there for Harrison Barnes?
It's definitely part of the psychology of being a Kings fan at this point. The last (only?) good GM the Sacramento Kings had was Petrie who, if IIRC, rarely made big deals at the deadline. His only major deals happened in the offseason. Since then we've had incompetent GMs who have yet to make a great deal at any point. So we've been conditioned to either expect no deals, or mediocre to bad minor deals. I don't know how we'd even react to a great, well thought out trade that improved the team for the future.
Which is why as terrible as this team is, and as much as major change is needed, there's some small comforting part of staying the course with this current dumpster fire of a team. And that's because we know it can always get worse, and that's what's most likely to happen to the Kings.

I just listened to Sam in that interview. He basically said Barnes has generated the most interest and is the most likely to go. He said the asking price on Collins, Sabonis and Grant is very high. Likely some posturing going on by teams right now.
if there is no reasonable deal out there for those big names the kings can’t just pull the trigger out of desperation. They would be better selling off Barnes Buddy and Bags and just reset. It doesn’t appear to be their pref but maybe no choice.

I'm not saddened or baffled by that. If a team is intrested in Barnes/Hield/Holmes they'll call. The right move IMO is to go to the draft and pick the best defensive 3 on the board.
Amazing how Monte has only been GM for a year and a half, but he's managed to do absolutely nothing during the leadup to five trade deadlines in a row!

This is his 4th window. When he first took over in the draft/off-season (Bogi), the last tread deadline (Cojo…), last draft/off season, now. He needs to make a game changing move or dude is gone. How do I know? Look at the seats. How are the owners going to sell this team to season ticket holders next year? And tanking would be considered a major move in my book. Trade everyone except Hali and Mitchell. Then suck for Jabari.
