Yeah, I have to think the rest of the season will be a bit of a trial run to see what does and doesn't work before making major changes. If there's a great deal being offered then you have to consider it, but I think it's very likely that the Kings sit tight at the trade deadline and see how the team does under Karl before deciding what to do next.
 
While Affalo may be nice at the 2/3 Glenn is right, Kings need some scoring and players off the bench. Sure hope Capt. isn't right but can see his point.

Landry is always good for 10 pts and 5 reb backing up Cuz or the 4 but at a 6-9 lacks size for many opponent 4's. Omri has lost total confidence in his shot and other teams know that rendering him to 50%.
Sessions should be at end of bench with RayMac starting.
Hollins is of no value.
DWill is fill in for a trade and if not is let go.
Evans is such an offensive liability on this team that his tough defense and rebounding is not enough.
Nik is a jewel in another year under a new coach. Tough, aggressive and will have great stroke. A keeper.
Moreland was a keeper who got banged up and is out for this year but will show up in summer league and likely on roster next year. A 6-10 rim protector who hustles
Quincy Miller. Will get signed for rest of year by end of all-star break. Hustles, runs the floor well, aggressive on defense, could be the biggest diamond in the rough.

So out of that bunch not much of a bench. Lots of work needed. David Wear on Reno is a 6-11 SF who shoots good 3's
If Sim gets in shape in the next 5 months and plays faster in summer league, still outside possibility he can be better backup for Cuz than anything else costing lost of $$$.

Will be interesting to see what Karl does personnel wise in his early going and before 19th.
 
I wonder if we can find a way to get Gibson for some of our ending contracts and removing the protection on the draft pick we owe Chicago.

We don't have to assets to acquire those Afflalo and Gibson. Especially without having a 1st round pick to trade. Even if we somehow managed to trade for both of those guys, we'd have a great starting lineup and then a bench that consisted of

Pooh Jeter
Sean May
Donte Greene
Tony Massenburg
Lawrence Funderburke

and of course

John Salmons.
 
Affalo is going to opt out. Just be patient and if he is the best bang for the buck in the off season sign him. I wouldn't though, see him as a Landry lite of a signing down the road, maybe earns a years worth of a 3 year contract. Certainly give nothing for an aged man who will be free at seasons end, he may leave, or you may be able to get him by out bidding everyone else later.
 
For the price of AA/Taj, I'd rather grab a few bench players. I don't think some of you guys realize how historically awful our bench is. Outside of Casspi and Landry (who are both extremely average) our bench is filled with <5ppg players who can't defend. The only consistent quality off the bench is Reggie's rebounding.

Ok I think everyone agrees we need a whole lot of help all over the roster.

I wouldn't worry about solidifying our bench right now at all.

Just simply look to get what you believe is a long term solution here and there for now, something you want around in 2-3 years, not just an injection of something decent.

Be thrifty with our loot, see what is out there in the off season. No need to act in haste for a role player, we've got too many holes and not enough long term answers. Bite the bullet today for the prize tomorrow.

To me, your stretch 4 should be a bench player unless he's that very rare beast that is also a decent to good defender. I'd rather see them trade Landry than Thompson but I don't see that there's much interest in either. But Ilyasova is a guy I wouldn't mind gambling on. He, Thompson and Cousins wouldn't be a bad big man rotation.
 
Trade scenarios for a PG: (With both of these trades, I'd add along a FA SG)

Sacramento: Nik Stauskas, Omri Casspi, Ramon Sessions, and Carl Landry

OKC: Reggie Jackson, Kendrick Perkins, and Perry Jones

Why we do it: PG is a position of weakness for the Kings a bit. I think Reggie Jackson is a PG who would shine without playing behind Westbrook.(James Harden) I'd extend Jackson and let him and Collison duel it out for starting job. I think Collison is a better player coming off the bench. It would be a huge gamble to let a potential like Stauskas go, but SG has been a huge weakness for the Kings this year. Not just SG, but the bench too. We're releasing Landry's ugly contract and that's worth everything.

Why OKC does it: Near playoff brink and I think they have to trade Jackson while trying to get the most they can. Stauskas would be a huge young chip for them in the future. The best piece would probably be Omri Casspi, someone who can give them an explosion off the bench. Maybe this is where Ramon Sessions goes back to being Ramon Sessions. A near 6moy. He can fill in the gap where Jackson left. Landry also gives them more scoring for the bench. It would mean that they start McGary until Adams gets back, but OKC was been rumored for a while now that they've wanted to get rid of Perkins.

OR

Sacramento: Nik Stauskas+Carl Landry

Phoenix: Goran Dragic+Miles Plumlee

Why we do it: We get a star PG in Dragic. He played the best game of his career as a PG..without Bledsoe. He'd be an upgrade from a mile away and could instantly make this team better. We do give up Stauskas again, but he's probably our most valuable trade asset we have. He might be more valuable than Ben..not too sure. We would also avoid a bidding war for Dragic. We offload Carl Landry which is a huge ++++++. It just makes us a better all around team.

Why Phoenix does it: They have 3PGs with 2 of them unhappy about their role. They've forced Dragic to play SG last year which was already bad enough, then they've forced him to play some at SF which is even worse. Unless they trade IT and give Dragic the max, Dragic is absolutely gone. They're going to lose Dragic for completely nothing, so they might as well trade him for the best package they can get. I think Stauskas is much better than a late 1st round pick. They get a young good SG and more bench.





Here are my calculations for our cap space next year:
The cap space is projected to raise to $66,000,000. For 2015, we're in the books for approximately $56,000,000 a little less.

That means we have around $10,000,000 for free agency.

We can offer Afflalo a 3year $26,000,000 deal with the third year being a PO.
OR
We can offer Wesley Matthews 3 years $32,000,000 with his 3rd year as a PO or maybe a 4 year $42,000,000 with a TO at his 4th year. I don't think the Kings need to trade for a SG. There will be 3 good UFA SGs this year.
 
Don't like any of the names attached to us not 1 defender among the group. And for the love of god can you guys stop with the taj gibson nonsense. Go look at the bulls there front court hasn't been healthy all year and Mirotic has hit the wall they won't trade Gibson this year. And PDA isn't gonna trade for a guy that plays defense anyways.

Well apparently he's inquired about Afflalo, and he certainly plays defense. He's lost a little step since he came into the league, and perhaps a little focus since he's been asked to carry some of the offensive load, but we know he can play defense. That's part of what got him into the league in the first place. Unfortunately they want a future 1st round pick, which I suppose we could do, it's just a matter of whether we want to forfeit part of our future for a player that will be 31 years old next year. Personally, I'd love to have Afflalo on the team. It would give Stauskas time to develop without pressure, and greatly improve our bench.

He's also a culture changing type of player. George Karl called him the most focused player on a day to day basis with his professional work habits, that he's coached
 
I get a feeling that Channing Frye of Orlando may be a trade target.

A stretch 4 for PDA and Karl.

Maybe a JT for Frye Swap?

I like everything about AA but he doesn't play defense. Hasn't played any for 3 years
 
I would love to see us get Dragić but not being able to trade that 1st round pick for a while rules us out of that conversation. He would be a great recruit for us. Can play on and off the ball so you could play him and Collison together. Adds some much needed ball handling, creativity and shooting.

If we get Dragic, Collison is going to the bench. I think Dragic excels when he's the PG. He played the best ball of his career when Bledsoe went out with an injury..

Of course Dragić would take the starting spot from Collison but you still will play Collison and Dragić significant minutes which means they will spend some significant time on the court together. It gives you two ball handlers, two players capable of hitting a spot up 3 and two players able to penetrate to the rim.

Its highly unlikely that we can get the guy but if we did he would fit in beautifully and would solidify that back court. Dragić, Collison and McLemore is a pretty solid back court rotation.
